Who else remembers Mo’s Bows from season 5 of Shark Tank?
Okay, I have a few favorite pitches... but Mo’s Bows is DEFINITELY one of them! I’m breaking down exactly what I was thinking during Mo’s pitch and WHY it was compelling enough for me to become his mentor. Some key points Mo hit:
-Resonated with me
-Created a unique jingle - Figure out, find out!!
-Showed an increase in sales

Excellent insight and advice, Daymond. I've never watched you outside of Shark Tank, so it was very nice to see that especially kind side of you. I was never the exuberant person that Mo was, (I'm still not at 51...lol), and I became self-employed for different reasons than Mo did. My parents separated when I was 12 and we were quite poor. My Dad didn't support us. So I took on two paper routes at 12 (90 papers), and shovelled snow 6 months out of the year in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, where I grew up. Everything I wanted (other than meals at home), I bought myself: baseball gloves, track shoes, a camera, etc) Other than my paper route, I took the summers off. It was my reward for working so hard during the winter... lol... and I was able to play street-hockey or baseball at the park with my friends during the summer. (I was raised a Jehovah's Witness, so I was never allowed to play organized sports.) My Dad came back when I was 15 and made certain things for me impossible for a few years. But I have been self-employed or have been paid for piece-work or a percentage of sales since I have been 19. Ironically, I have been shovelling snow - again - for the past 12 years.

Sounds like you've always had the entrepreneurial spirit - something many people to go business school to learn and still never have! Keep grinding and wish you the best 💪🏾

All good advice coming from you on this aspect, Daymond. I don’t think people necessarily realize it’s not just about the hard numbers. Everything a person does relays information to others. Confidence, knowledge, cleverness, balance between flexibility to compromise and rigid strength to hold your ground at the right moments, those are all aspects of charisma, which is the other side of the coin needed to be successful in business and leadership.

Girl Guide Cookie Sellers up here in Canada are RUTHLESS. They will actually follow you through the mall. Last time they were selling I passed them saw they had 1 box of a certain kind I can't resist. I said, "If you can hold this box for me for 10 minutes. I just need to hit an atm and grab something. I will be right back." She FOLLOWED ME to the atm at the other end of the mall without the cookies.

The one thing I have found out about working for yourself is it's extremely hard work! People overlook how determined you have to be to be successful. You don't just get a idea and then rake in the cash. You fail and you get back up and you fail again and again. If your strong enough to continue putting in the time and learn from your failures. That's where success is born. I hope I am close it has been a lot of ups and downs in the past four years trying to create my business.

Damond to be honest with you i probably seen every shark tank episode since inception since inception every one, but this one lives with me the most every day and probably always will, this episode brought tears of joy to my heart and my soul when you took Bo under your wing , with no charge, i shouted yeah! with a fist pump because it was truly heart felt it wasnt about the money , a powerful statement was made that night with no words spoken, just real love. how could any of us not be proud of young bow, who is outspoken, ambitious, talented with the swag of a young hustler i dont know bo,s father, but i know Bo inherited a another fatherly mentor that night, but bo wasnt the only one, (Im very good at reading spirits and souls ) that night damond you inherited a step son i saw it in your eyes and in your heart, so why is this my favorite episodes . because i knew when it comes to business Bo would always be protected and well educated by one of the best in the business. go head D.J. i aint mad at cha one love stan

Has anyone seen the kid from New York Tani play chess. Idk, seeing Tani reminded me about Mo due to their young hustling mentality and similarities in their personalities. It would be great for me Mo and Tani to collaborate together. Maybe a limited series chess edition tie.

The big difference that you always has a weight on your shoulders when it comes to black ppl coming to the tank that other sharks don't have, although it's done primarily in sports but I believe scouting talents from that age can be useful for any profession
