Thanks for sharing this video, was looking for more info on the amp, planning on building 4x DYI PartExpress Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series HO Subwoofer, seems this amp will match well and be set in the amp rack.

the phase control is for depending on where you have your sub placed it could possibly produce sound waves that are in phase with the ones from say your fronts or another sub and cause a cancellation effect at certain frequencies and basically wouldn't sound right and would be not as loud as it should be. but normally less than 90 degrees is enough. i have the dayton sa230 which has the same phase control and i actually have set around 60 degrees and it does sound better than having it at 0. so you may want to play with it and may find it does in fact give you better sound

I own three of these amps and they start to clip with the gain set at 3.5. Have it plugged into 120v plug. If i plugged it into a 240v plug, would it clip less? Any comments on this subject. Running a 4 ohm load on amp.

I only plug mine to 120V directly to a 15 or 20 AMP circuits. Also clipping points can be different depending on the audio source and how clean that signal is. Turn off any bass boost as well. The best thing to do is use an SMD Clip detector to set the gain perfectly before clipping. There are KZfaq videos on it and it's super easy. Works on Home & Car audio

I wish you would have know how your amp works other than plugging it in and turning it on. Would have been a better video. I appreciate you took the time to make the video. Phase control is used because the distance from the speaker to the ear is different for every application. You want the sound waves to arrive at the ear at the same time. Think of them like waves in the ocean., you should tune your system so the mids and high frequencies and subwoofer all arrive at your ear at the same time.. Sub Sonic filter is useful if you play records, like the 33 1/3 RPM vinyl kind. They can produce VLF which can damage the speaker, it harms nothing to turn it on. If you tested your room for EQ you would find that some frequencies are cancelled out and other were amplified, that is what the EQ is for. Boosting the cancelled (null) frequencies every room has. There was a question from someone about 120 vs 240 and clipping. No difference. It is the amount of windings on the transformer coil , either primary or secondary. No difference in performance. Someone else stated A/ B is louder than Class D amps. Wrong. Class D amps are switching amps , they are much more efficient for power drawn from the wall and can sound excellent. It's a preference of your perception and which speakers you have. I've heard both sound sublime. Apples to Oranges. Class A/B amps use much more power and waste that power as heat, Class D amps run much cooler and more efficiently.

You get the booby bass prize. Class D amps are NOT digital. (It's called Class D simply because Class A, B, and C designations were already taken.) Class D amps convert the analog input to a high frequency pulsed analog signal which is much more efficient to amplify, and then the output is filtered in the analog domain back to the original frequency.

How would you ideally connect 2x 4ohm buttkicker LFE's to this unit?
@Argedis Жыл бұрын
Yes you can but if they are single 4-ohm you can only run them in series to 8-ohm so they will only get half power. This amp does not support 2-ohm

SIR WHAT'S PHASE IN FRONT?
@XX-121 Жыл бұрын
i think you're asking what does the phase knob do? if so, i gave an answer to that question in this comment section if you would like to see it. i just don't want to post it twice.

Class D means switching, not digital! A, AB, D are all analog. Class D does not sound worse than AB either, I have a Wyred 4 Sound ST-1000 mkII amp that sounds absolutely incredible. Many other high-end companies are also offering Class D amps.
@XX-1214 жыл бұрын
yes they do sound worse than AB and they are digital!!! where are you getting your info from? also watt for watt an ab will be louder than d. but i'm not saying EVERY class d amp sounds like TOTAL ass but i'm not going to argue with a noob. audiophiles know the deal. especially ones with some years under their belts and have experience. You do realize that there WAS a time when class d didn't exist, right? So some of us have been watching the tech from it's birth. if you ask me, yeah class d doesn't mean digital, it stands for class DOO DOO.

@@XX-121 Cheese and rice, where do I even begin with your stupidity? 1) My W4S sounds as good as any AB amp I've ever heard, and many other companies make Class D amps that surpass AB designs. 2) Watts are watts, one isn't going to be louder than the other. 3) Class D does not mean digital!!! It means switching power supply. Straight from Wikipedia: "The term "class D" is sometimes misunderstood as meaning a "digital" amplifier. While some class-D amplifiers may indeed be controlled by digital circuits or include digital signal processing devices, the power stage deals with voltage and current as a function of non-quantized time. " I am an audiophile, I've been around home audio my entire life and have been buying gear for over 30 years. I guess my Wyred 4 Sound pre, amp & DAC, and my Dunlavy SC-IV aren't audiophile enough for a dumb ass like you.

BB he is right.. the difference between class D and the others are that a class D switches between circuits so not any single one gets too much heat build up. As far as which one sounds better between the classes all depends on what equipment you are using. For instance a $500 AB will most likely beat the quality of a $50 class D. But generally class D is more efficient.
