The hearing on Microsoft's approval to acquire Activision Blizzard, which began last week in California, has proved to be an extremely valuable source of information on the past and future plans of the industry giants. The latest fruit of this was the confirmation that DayZ 2, a continuation of the hit online survival game, is in production. This information comes from Microsoft's internal correspondence, which has been attached to publicly available evidence. Bohemia Interactive is listed there as one of the studios that Microsoft is looking at in the context of a possible takeover. The studio description states that Bohemia Interactive is currently working on three projects - Arma Reforger, Arma 4 and DayZ 2.

I would appreciate DayZ2, but unfortunately I know from former employees what kind of pace they have in Bohemia. I'm in no hurry.. Maybe they're waiting for someone to buy them. A friend even told me that when releasing DayZ they could have switched to a new engine, but they dropped it... too much to do

I actually like how DayZ is not holding your hand when crafting. It's kinda awesome not to know all the mechanics of the game and discover them with time.

Not just crafting, literally everything. No in game map, no minimap, no numbers on your stats, when you get sick it doesn't tell you what you have or what will cure it. No tutorial to tell you not to eat with bloody hands or bandage with unclean rags. You can look all that stuff up, sure, but in game? Nah, you're on the coast with a plum, a bandage, and a chemlight, and then it just chucks you in the deep end. You figure it out, or you don't. Items you could pick up don't glow. It's very oldschool in that way and as an older gamer, I'm all about it. It also provides a filter for the playerbase - A lot of younger and frankly toxic players try it out, starve to death a few times, and rage quit. Good. This is not a game for impatient people or those who don't want a challenge. PvP is maybe 5% of the game, and there's plenty of shooters. You survive in DayZ on knowledge and wits, and that's what the game brings to the table that almost no other game does. It's no wonder the most popular servers are "Helis Traders Weed 10x Loot Safezones Infinite Stamina $100k start ATMs" blah blah. Because little kids bought the game, still want to say they play DayZ, but they don't actually play DayZ.

I can see advanced crafting being a "figure it out" sorta thing, but basics need to be disclosed. We shouldn't have to resort to Google in the middle of a PVE/PVP game. Give us enough to get started & maybe make suggestions for more advanced items.

I think I'm the only guy who wouldn't complain about the constant running... even if the new maps are insanely huge. For me, it's the whole reason I play the game. It adds to the immersion, and really helps the zen experience I play this game for. Nothing makes a large map larger, than slow travel. It also forces the player to explore more... which in DayZ is a good thing, because learning subtle terrain features can be a make-it or break-it for solo players.

Many casual gamers who play comfortable mainstream games complain about this and call it a "hiking/walking simulator" - but excatly that's what's nice about it. The sounds of the forests and fields. I love Nature in DayZ. I don't want polluted barren wastelands for an apocalypse. A Zombie apocalypse is a disaster that only affects us humans because we became too many on the planet. Nature continues to flourish like thousands of years ago.

fast travel makes open worlds in games unnecessary or makes the world feel very small. it's why i tend to avoid vehicles in dayz, if i can just safely pop from town to town gathering everything it sours the experience and makes it boring after a while. cars are basically godmode in vanilla dayz, just drive into a town, honk the horn, run over the zombies, town safe to loot without firing a shot.

@@berzerk1450 - my point EXACTLY. Have you seen the television series "Life After People"? That's the kind of post-apocalyptic experience I want to play... a few years after nature has started taking everything back. No cars. No gas. No electrical grid. Only more hearty remnants of domesticated animals. Wildlife EVERYWHERE.

What makes DayZ one of the best games ever it's the unlimited number of possible sequences, ecounters, threats and friendships you can have while playing it. In over 4000 hours of playing DayZ i made friends across the entire globe and we still communicate, even if we dont play together anymore. As Baby Nades said, it's amazing way of recreating the reality it's exactly what makes DayZ great.

@@zombaldag9337 Like it's said in the video, the game is running on 2 different engines and not solely on Enfusion like you claim. The devs have already said they won't update the game to fully run on Enfusion since that would be too much work and it would set it back to the point where it won't be playable due to all the bugs they'd have to figure out and fix. And they can't even do that with the game in it's current version. Every update & hotfix just breaks something new and old bugs resurface again.

If I could only play one game for the rest of my life, it would be DayZ for the simple reason of how limitless the gameplay possibilities are with the right groups of people. The only issues like you have mentioned are the aging engine and limited game systems holding back any continued development or modding capabilities.

From a business point of view: Total conversion DLC for ARMA 4 It will force people to get ARMA 4 to get the DLC. Huge increase in revenue. But the biggest is consolidation of workforce and effort. DayZ has a lot of potential. I’ve played it since 2011 and it still needs improvement. The controls are not easy, and the game should be simpler to play. It could learn from how Minecraft made its inventory and crafting easier to use. The game can be laggy and glitchy, fixing this is more important than adding new maps or items

I agree with you. There needs to be a DayZ 2 with everything you mentioned. I may have missed it, but I think they should also expand on base building and possibly being able to do renovations such as painting, creating a road/driveway, repair boats to go out and catch bigger fish, more types of vehicles, skill tree. One thing I would like to be able to do on consol is customize the billboard signs and put solar panels on the roof of a house to power all electrical items. Bulldozers to knock down a house that may be blocking your view of the beach sunset. A way for people to start businesses in a town they built up. All in all, that detailed level of living in an open world. DayZ 2 would have the potential to be up in the number with GTA 6 when it drops.

They have to stick to the "old spirit" of getting as realistic a feeling as possible out of their engine. It must never become a totally exaggerated action game just to open up new markets (asia, as mentioned in the video), where you fight 100 zombies on your own with a katana and kung-fu moves to shred them to chunks.

I think Arma 2 sat around for a year or two in my game shelf before I really started playing it. Back in the day it was really hard to learn a game that had so many controls as there was nothing else like it. Once I learned the controls though I started having real fun playing and manually scripting sequences like loading and unloading helicopters. Anyway it has a huge learning curve but thats what makes it the best game as well because once you learn it there is so much to do!

I'm really impressed with the amount of research you put into this. Also one thing they MUST maintain with a newer version of DayZ is the level of grit and avoid streamlining. The game flourishes with it's multiple trivial obstacles melding together to create an over-arching challenge, unique to each player. That's what makes the game so special. Everyone has a different goal, short term or long term.

I have a theory that DayZ 2 will start out as a mod for Arma 4 and, as per usual, will be driven by the effort, time and money spent by modders and fans of the game... while Bohemia sits back and gauges the interest and waits until making a standalone version is a "sure thing" (and after they've got that initial Arma 4 sales) and they'll essentially convert Reforger over to become DayZ 2. Feels like it makes sense, cost-efficient and safe for Bohemia. Just a theory, though.

I would like to see a version where you can earn XP or currency during your game life so you can buy equipment and build up loadouts to start with instead of having literally nothing on a respawn. Maybe even have a secure storage for loot that only you can access. Some of us love the game but have a life and we can't just farm loot for days at a time just to lose it all due to some nonsense like bugged out walls, wild animals with zero warning or most egregiously: Hackers. Which WILL be an issue in the game at times. Just a matter of when. Of course I also advocate to have the standard formula servers and call it Classic or Hardcore mode.

1:36 where I pause. Dayz is so popular these days because it picked up consistent and healthy support from the devs. But also it was released to console and now there's all these PC games that are coming to console. A whole new world of gaming just opened up to console players. And the ridiculously massive maps. It's an arma game reskinned as a zombie survival. People love milsims for their realistic outcomes and huge maps.

If they just remade dayz as an exact copy just refurbished on a newer engine, left the communities ability to mod - they would make millions.

Great video. (The Video mentions) "What everyone want to see - DayZ to reach it's full potential" sounds great. I just hope it will still be the DayZ with the real DayZ Feeling. A few thoughts form my view: Video mentions "Will have a huge Map" I think that's a bad thing - allready on Chernarus you can run for 5 hours on a full server without to see any other players. Then you spawn with a Friend and he is 50km away from you? Do we need bigger maps? I think we need better maps. And more then one or two maps. Some days you seek fast PVP, and on others you go for a huge Adventure. To support all aspects on one single map is impossible, becaus it always has just one size. - Esseker and Banov wil never bring the same way of playing DayZ. - We have those improved, further developed maps already, that bring enormous variety to the different Gameplay. (Even Chernarus is for ever the original and very beautifull) The best modded maps are amazing, very popular and not bigger as Chernarus. If you make huge maps where the servers must be full with arround 200 players, then half full servers will suffer much more in proportion as if smaller ones were only half full. In Esseker or Namalsk you run into guys even when the server is half empty. I think so many people play Namalsk because the main land is very small and forces tonnes of that uniqe loved DayZ-interractions. Also the harder Enviroment support the real Survival Experience arround the PVP or the Exploring. And of course also that you have something more to do then just reach Tisy to get the best loot or find a Keycard for a Bunker. A longer Mission as on Deerisle, Namalsk, Iztek and others. - As Namalsk is from Sumrak, I'm sure a DayZ 2 Map will become anyway great. But if it is just huge, interractions get rarer and aren't the random interractions one of the special things in DayZ? Not always KOS - people speak to each other and team up with randoms for several hours on an Adventure, or to take a hostage instead just murdering without a word. If you have everywhere more and more cars or even Airplanes, much less interractions will result. Rust is a game with non stop Base-PVP-Base, this all the time running back to the Base. To many Cars do a bit the same, less hard slow adventure and exedently walk into someone and talk. I f a Car runs into you gunshots are for sure the answer - A good mix in a map is very important, not just the size. - There's no need to mention how many incredible mods and maps the community invents and produces. These extremely creative and hard-working people should be even better included and supported to make it easier to build their mods. In video mentioned "All that walking..." isn't that what makes it unique. The slow but intense survival. Would you find in an Appocolypse a Fighter jet and fly over the map or rather build a large Stick into an arrow bow? What gives more Survivalfeeling and better interrractions and fights. DayZ 2 shouldn't become a totally different game because they already exist since the meantime - More crafting possibilities would probably help not getting slowely bored that you do nothing else then open million time doors to see if there is Loot on the ground. To craft a bit more Survival-Basic-Items then just combine Rags for Ropes or stones for stoneknife would suport the survival feeling "I do creat something to survive". Just open doors, picking up loot and find canned food everywhere take the apocalyptic survival feeling a bit down. - I wish they would ad Bows. From my point of view, almost nothing is more fulfilling in Survival and direct PVP than calculating the eternally slow flight time and the enormous drop with an arrow bow and aiming 20m in front of a running player or an Animal and then hitting him/it perfectly after a few seconds of flight time. There are incredible bow mechanics. I'm sure there are tonnes of smart experienced people and I hope Bohemia work with them together to make DayZ 2 the best it can become. And I hope DayZ 2 will still be DayZ. Big thanks to Bohemia for that great Game, big thanks to the whole Community for being such a helpfull comunity, all the effort from the Server owners, the endless amazing entertainment and game advertising from all streamers and huge applause to all the modders that spend so much of their freetime for free to make the game lots more variety. You all rock!

tbh my dream would be a polished expanded version of DayZ 0.62, the legacy gameplay was way better imo and was just overall a more enjoyable game, the new version is just to arcady. i hate the gunfights in new dayz i just want that old slow scary gameplay, back when getting shot at made you shit yourself ive been playing the game on some community made 0.62 legacy servers and its not just nostalgia talking, i really do enjoy the older version much more.

as a DayZ player for the last 7 years, on PC and Console(s). i can safely say, that as bad as the inventory system is on consoles it’s overall gameplay is incredible. graphically it’s pretty good, even on Series X graphics aren’t as good on optimized games as they are on PC. but, its frame rate is a solid 60 consistently unless there’s some crazy additions to the map. Xbox One does have lag spikes, frequently and it can be frustrating but if you look passed that it’s a great experience. i think a big problem with it is that most people don’t have the time to play games like this. i’m honestly surprised Rust sells so well considering keeping a base on there is a full time job. but these games take dozens of hours to learn, and then it takes hours to even find gear on official servers. community is becoming increasingly popular on consoles because while there’s no mods to download they do edit server files to make spawning with your friends easier, finding loot much faster, and making cars spawn much more frequently. PC will always be the goated system, it may cost an arm and a leg to get something that will handle everything you throw at it but that computer will last you 3x longer than a console will. it offers better frames, graphics, modding capabilities, and much more. but dayz on console overall is actually a great game, i hope it keeps up its player count. this game holds a special place in my heart and it will be a sad day when its put to rest. sorry for the paragraph, and good luck out there.

Good vid. One point though that wasn't referenced, Always Streams was talking about BI as a developer company, not the development team specifically. He praises the team working on it all the time and encourages people to watch their streams. He's said a few times he thinks the team working on it are fighting against the tied with limited support, which has become a little less harsh with rising player numbers. But BI loves ARMA, they don't love DayZ. Sumrak had to make Namalsk in his spare time, because BI would never have invested in anything like that. Realistically, the dev team have been exceeding their actual budget, which was originally just there for maintenance and occasional patches. Because DayZ was not released completed, it was broken, cars didnt work, glitches didnt stop, content was removed and so on and so on

The best thing about DayZ is seeing it grow over the years. It could of easily slipped into a cash grab but the devs listen to their players and refined it into a classic.

I feel they want to perfect the (Enfusion Engine) before doing a DayZ 2 As to me it feels they wanted to learn how to use the new engine and they chose Arma as their test project due to the series long running popularity, AND the fact that its the first Arma game introduced to Console, meaning they want to better/perfect the game mechanics for Console players to be as good as PC. Arma Reforger/Arma 4 is just the beginning of what I feel, is there "Console Project". Makes sense since its called Arma "Reforger", as if to reforge the series to accommodate the new engine but maybe im reading to much into it😂

I've been saying this for years. Bohemia is/was using DayZ specifically to test and develop their next generation of games Arma4 and DayZ2. DayZ died once. It was completely dead and seemingly beyond revival. Bohemia took a years old game back into the workshop, built a brand new engine, and opened it to mod support. Instant revival. Though that was a gamble that gaming companies don't generally take. Why would they risk it? Well if they were using DayZ and it's playerbase to test future features and engines it would make sense. The new gunplay in DayZ is immaculate. Far better than the majority of titles out there, and exactly how I want an Arma4 or similar title to feel. However, they stated from early on that vehicles would never be completely fixed in this engine. So from very early on this new engine was already obsolete. They knew it would be though. It was meant to test features, gauge interest, and collect information on what the current bohemia players want in a game. It wasn't much longer after that and they released Reforger. Which oddly enough uses the same general terrain/location scheme as DayZ. I mean it looks like Chernarus. These DayZ clone mods are nice, but they will not withstand the official DayZ2 on the Reforger engine when it drops.

I don't know if it's just me but I wouldn't like unrealistic superzombies or superzombie animals in DayZ 2. I would just love to have new, bigger/denser maps with some verticality, an expanded weapons/gear/clothing/food/craftables selection and modern graphics/physics. I'd keep everything else the same because that is what made DayZ such an incredible game!
