In November 2022, two DBR class diesel locomotives were moved by rail and truck to the Goldfields Railway in Waihi. These were numbers 1199 and 1282, and they had been in storage at Steam Inc. in Paekakariki since 2019 (along with four classmates). For reference, the locomotives are owned by DBM Contracting.
After arriving in Mount Maunganui in the early hours of November 18, the engines were put on a truck and brought up to Waihi (albeit only one at a time), as there hasn't been a direct rail connection between Tauranga and Waihi for over 40 years. This video focuses on DBR 1282's arrival, with cameos from DSA 551 and DSC 2338.
This was easily one of the most unusual things I've seen on the railways this year, on-par with that time DXC 5391 and DC 4605 helped another train into Wellington (either that or a few days later, when DFB 7064 had a light-engine test run with 5391).
