One of the goals of distress tolerance in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is to replace suffering with ordinary pain. This DBT distress tolerance skill teaches us the difference between pain and suffering, and how to survive a crisis without making things worse. From my Online MBCT and MBSR course bit.ly/mbctonline. Try it for free and learn how mindfulness and the parable of the two arrows allows us to experience painful, unpleasant, and distressing situations without causing us to suffer.

I am pleased DBT is offered to help us break old ways to respond to stress. Is there a campaign happening to create a plan to introduce this to elementary school children as a standard to provide skills and acquire lifetime coping skills? Many parents are unskilled at parenting and so many children are suffering out there.

thank you for this video although i disagree that the second arrow is "anger, grieve, and lament" because they are really normal and common reactions to pain, and most the time we can't really 'control' them, so they're with the first arrow. The second arrow is, IMO, when we resist those negative reactions and the pain. The thing you're preaching at 2:53 is like toxic positivity to me because it feels like we can't have those reactions toward pain when in reality it's normal for most people

This was amazing! So let's say I feel anger and feel like something unfair happened to me. How do I manage the urge to do something about it? I feel like accepting it does not feel like enough because my feeling wants me to mobilize and prevent the same thing from happening again.

Depending on the situation, it can be okay to act on an emotion. I talk about how to figure out whether or not to act on an emotion in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbJjpJpoqNmyY3U.html

Anybody know of any ways we can change how pain is shown, such as avoiding anger, I’m bpd I flip and scare people and that’s not me I don’t want to be that person or be seen that way, maybe a reach or not the right place but I’m guessing we’re all here for the same reason, how can I change the way pain felt is outwardly shown
