The San Francisco 49ers are parting ways with their defensive coordinator Steve Wilks after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime for the 58th Super Bowl. Craig Carton is joined by Plaxico Burress and Willie Colon to react to the responses from Kyle Shanahan and Nick Bosa, and decide whether Wilks truly isn't a good fit, or if he's being scapegoated for the SB loss. Wilkes isn’t there just for players to like him. He’s there to help the team to get to the Super Bowl. Kyle is just a good coach until he win the Super Bowl. Eagles should keep an eye on Wilkes for HC.

The 49ers lost because they didn't score enough points after holding Mahomes to 19 points in regulation. It wasn't the defense.

unfortunately, the run defense was not the same as previous years even with the same players. Pass rush was not good enough as advertise after Chase Young was traded to the Niners. Looking forward to see who Niners get as their new defensive coordinator. Best of luck to Steve Wilks.

if HC Gase would have called a timeout, DC Williams might have finished the season as Jets DC in 2020 you made a list of other reasons why SF lost the game. you should add that Steve Wilks did not kick the missed extra point to the list. i remember yelling at the screen that on 4th down after the 2 min warning there was too much time on the clock to leave QB Mahomes not to score. the SB was lost by not planning for 4 downs after the 2 min warning to run off more clock. both 3rd down and 4th down had to have been running plays to convert at least one more set of downs. Thanks Willie. I had been thinking that Rex runs a 3-4 when Craig suggested Rex for SF's DC. Would Rex have the horses, or even the mandate, to change it up? Wondering how would Rex do within the confines of a 4-3? I mean there was this one game in Foxboro that Rex rushed only 4 and dropped 8 to confuse a certain now retired QB turned Superbowl commercial actor. But beyond that?

After the Ravens beat them so bad I had no doubts they weren't beating the Chiefs. That and saying they didn't know the rules. People hyped them so much. All I could tell people was Poor Brock Purdy.

Nick Bosa should learn some lane discipline and stop over shooting the Scrambling QB on the other side before he talks about his DC not preparing them. Also, there should be 3 players whose only job is to have either Player 1: QB, Player 2: HB, and Player 3: Pitch player. There is no excuse of "we weren't prepared. I learned that concept in HS playing football.

This looks especially bad in the age of DEI initiatives--the white head coach, white offensive coordinator and white special teams coordinator's squads are the reason the 49ers lost Super Bowl LVIII, while the black defensive coordinator's squad shut down the Chiefs in the first half, kept the game close until 3 seconds left in overtime, and stopped the Chiefs dynasty from blowing out the 49ers, and as a result Wilks gets fired.

During the playoff run the defense allowed 8 more points and 100 more yards. No matter what happened during the game Wilks had a chance to win the Super Bowl and he let the Chiefs score a touchdown to win the game. That was his moment and he failed. Yes he should've been fired and Shanahan should have been fired too. A team should never accept mediocrity.

I don’t think he’s the scapegoat. If you only look at the Super Bowl and not look at the full season yes he’s a scapegoat. But if you look at the full season he’s not. The defense wasn’t the same and got pushed around a lot this season.

Shanahan knew the rules and they went over them before the ot started taking the ball first was not a big deal that was their strategy players play and coaches coach they had problems with Wilkes all season long

Wilks was handed a world class defense, from the get go the defense did not perform like last year. I could run a 100 yards on SF and I'm nearly 60. Being ranked 26 in run defense with those stars on Defense is uncalled for. Wilks is absolutely responsible.
