DCC FAULT FIXES - Erratic locos? blowing decoders? Try removing this...

Took a LONG time to figure out what the issue was with this loco...
if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms with a DCC or DCC Sound loco...
Erratic Running,
Loco doesn't respond to throttle input or CV changes, suddenly becomes Unresponsive,
Sound resetting or random sounds playing,
NOBODY I spoke to mentioned this as being a possibility. The only solutions I got were
"Reset your decoder"
"upgrade your controller"
"Change this CV value to This"
nothing else worked...
thankfully though it's sorted out ALl the above mentioned issues...
now, there's still one or two other issues I've had and I'll need to do more testing regarding them now that I've made the change...
will keep you posted with updates!

Thanks for posting this. You’re spot on, as it turns out I had exactly the same issue and as soon as I hard wired to the track my locos ran perfectly. Thanks again 👍

DON'T USE THE HORNBY TRACK CONNECTOR. OK. GOT IT .GOOD. NO seriously you've solved a big problem for ALOT of people. Cheers mate

I'm guessing the bog standard Hornby connector is designed for use with analogue systems? If this is the case that capacitor is designed to eradicate spikes that can cause radio interference. I'm also guessing this capacitor will also tend to smooth the DCC square wave that is necessary for decoders to work.

Its strange that hornby fit a capacitor on their track feed ... no other dcc system has that.. it is normal to just wire each piece of track to a bus and connect that direct to the controller

Normal, yes absolutely and yet not a single person, even those from the "big" companies out there thought to mention "are you using the basic track connector?" Very strange but there we go mate, every day is in fact a school day!🤣

If yer rip out the capiacitor does the clip still work? And would that then resolve the issue ?

I'm not sure mate, I imagine it WAS the cap causing the issue so give it a shot😁
