Drum Corps from the stands often doesn't do justice for the true difficulty on the field.
Watch some of the hardest drill moves with rehearsal footage along the final performance!
I know I missed some, so let me know what I missed! If there are enough...maybe a part two will come soon

Hello, my name is Star 91. And Cavs 98, and Cadets 96 (last minute especially), and the expanding and contracting box in BD 97 (possibly the most perfectly executed move ever, frankly). and on and on. If you want a DEVILISHLY fun time, in Cross to Cross, find the person at the base of the 2nd cross, and trace backwards to where they start in cross 1. Shows you how absolutely sublime that sequence was.

Jesus Christ, that's insane. For those too lazy to spend time rewinding the clip over and over, he starts on the right side arm end of the first cross, just off the 45 yard line near the hash marks and directly in front from the snare drums. Then through some unbelievable cardio and Zingali's insane drill, he ends up on the bottom of the second cross, down by the front sideline. Simply astounding.

The backwards speed marching at 0:53- I did a chart like that in university but it was further distanced so it was a legit run in double time. It was all of sax section running backwards with super strides with the susas right in front of us. We had already been expressing issue with the drill because the susas couldn't see where they were going and one wrong stride and it was gonna be a huge painful domino effect. Eventually we convinced the director that the chart was impossible and it was thankfully changed and the double time was made normal and the formation moved up 10 yards so we didnt need to go as far. Thank god. We all almost died lol

I marched with BAC in 2018, the clip you put in the video is the ONE set that I wasn't sprinting. haha Opening sets of Sensemaya had me doing 3 to 5s backwards, then had 3 to 5s HORIZONTALLY in both the end of the opener and the closer. I marched 5 seasons of corps, but that was easily the hardest show I ever did, also a hell of an ageout. ••|•|•••

These are good but there are several from the 90’s early 00’s of cadets and cavies that would blow your mind.

Crown ‘12 could have featured the very first move to show after the announcement. It’s honestly probably the hardest single movement for the whole corps. 6 to 5, crabbing straight to the left, at 196bpm, from a complete standstill, with a 25lb snare drum strapped to me, required a degree of explosiveness that I was just barely capable of by the end of the season lol

Should have been titled, "DCI's most tiring drill" lol Where's 2008 Cadets? (last minute of show) Some others: 1989 Suncoast Sound, 2010 Phantom, 1997 Cadets, 99 Devils (especially backing that block in the ballad), 2004 SCV, 2000-2004 Cavaliers...there's just too many to name. SCV had a LOT of really difficult drill throughout the years. If I had to pick a "hardest overall show", I'd have to go with 2012 Carolina Crown "For the common good". The demands that were placed on each performer throughout that entire show were just insane.

89 Suncoast sound is one of the greatest shows of all time! 30 years ahead of its time. It was what drum corps has become.

@@japetrini No offense, but I don't think that modern drumcorps is anywhere close to being as good as 89 Suncoast Sound. Don't get me wrong, there are things I still like, but it's few and far between anymore. 2022 was the worst year for corps in a long time for me. There's way too much voice over, singing and narration to enjoy most shows any more. I did somehow really enjoy 2022 Bluecoats despite the constant narration. I just try to zone it out which works, but I'd rather it not be there in the first place. It is what it is.

No disrespect to the kids today but most of the 2022 shows were missing a lot of this. Hopefully this kind of movement returns more often. Just one old guy’s opinion.

DCI should dig in to the archives and find the film the deleted of SCV 1991, Fall of Saigon. Baritone whip, and a full corps side flip as a massive cross through at 210bpm are just a couple of the Myron drill pieces.

Why doesn’t the guard have flags in Crown 2012? Is that some DCI thing they do where the guard does their choreo without their equipment when they do drill?

Hardest drill doesn't mean fastest...BD 2014 where they rotated a long front that's at an angle -- and thus hiding SOME people who may be out of line -- and then rotating it to the vertical. Yes, they end up on a yard line, but HALF of the line is going backwards and can't see it...and it still ends up laser-straight.
