The second producer note for DCS: A-10C Warthog. This note focuses on the start up procedure of the A-10C attack jet.

Notes:
Please note that this note is based on Alpha code and far from complete. We feel it better to release such videos now based on pre-release code than wait until the game is about done.
Video was recorded at 30 FPS at 1280x720 using internal AVI tool. No post-processing was used. Sorry, mouse cursor could not be recorded.
High Dynamic Range (HDR) can be enabled/disabled by users.
While the start up procedure is works for me, I'm sure users will find a flow that works better for them.
This note takes place at a work-in-progress version of the new Nevada (Nellis AFB) terrain. We wanted to give you a little preview of this new terrain even though it is incomplete. No noise map yet and some issues with close range shadows.

This is absolutely fabulous. You have teased us with this game for ages, and now we finally see it coming together. Hope the release date is soon. Also, figuring on how it looks like, i think its safe to assume it will NOT be compatible for online play with flaming cliffs 2 right? Either way, im getting this. Manual and everything. Only thing that will be missing is the special A-10 joystick that came also came out for this.

Just wow. So much attention to detail as always. Noticed the stick started shaking at about 2:15 when the engine started. That is just incredible. The HUD display actually looks like it's focused at infinity too. Just some small details that I noticed that struck me with little wow moments at the same time as all the other bigger wow moments. Again, thanks for these videos.

I like all the DCS sims but this is the one that motivated me to get serious and actually start preparing a cockpit. This will be the most awesome release done so far and I bet this will sell big. You hear everyone constantly talk about how they love the hog. Me included. It's just an awesome aircraft.

this could probably be used as the A-10 sim for actual USAF A-10 pilots in training,because it is so comprehensive! well done guys seruiously!

Great job, Matt. Finally, somebody's gotten this simulation design aspect 100% spot on. I myself see no point in flipping switches for 5 minutes in a mission-oriented combat sim; but, to be 100% accurate, you want to have the detail there. So, you've provided this full-realism startup, plus the one-button startup or runway startup options to support other player preferences!! Stellar job! Good luck on this new title.

Wow, is all I can say. I'm very much looking forward to this sim. The A10 has always been my favorite "modern" aircraft, ever since Sierra's light sim: A-10 Warthog came out. I would wish for an android app to practice the startup procedures on my cell anytime and anywhere.

Most multiplayer servers make you do this cold startup. The mission maker also has the option to have players start with all systems running on the ramp, or already in the air.

at 4:30 when looking into the sunset ( w/ Canopy open) you still see the "spider cracks" that you'd see when looking through the glass (Canopy down).

@tcharmon74 TrackIR from NaturalPoint is the commercial software/hardware device that they use for the head tracking (eye movement). For the current games, players not wanting to shell out so much for that device are also using a variety of home-grown and freeware solutions such as FreeTrack, or webcam->virtualjoystick devices that use webcam 'face detection' software like SeeingMachine's FaceAPI driver.

@Outamyhead All the A-10s in DS were flown , not taken via C-5s or C-17s . Crews were forced to AR multiple times crossing the pond with the trips taking several days over several legs.

I use a X-52 Pro HOTAS w/pedals and resort to Right Alt + Home and Right Ctl + Home for engine start as there's only one throttle control on the X-52. The TM HOTAS has two throttles but no pedal support AFAIK.

No one except people who actually worked on, built, or flew the A10 would know how to start it up or know every minute detail about the plane. The great thing about this game is that it teaches you all the basics and explains what each switch does. So by the time you do the tutorials once or twice, you will be able to explain what each switch does. Sure, you are not an expert, but you def. have more than average knowledge after you play the game.

omg , the guys at dcs breathe life in the flight sim genre!! so awesome!! please consider making one for the carrier f/a-18 e/f. you guys would own and it would be great to see a fresh carrier f-18 sim since the release janes f18 and multiplayer ! :D

The engines can run without fuel pumps in level flight. They are only there to maintain positive pressure at engine start and high G manuvers.

@superskidoos You may find DCS: A:10C, in it's open beta release stage at the "digitalcombatsimulator" website as stated in the video's description. Just navigate to "products" and buy/ download it there. I do not believe a hard copy is available and I would expect it not to be until after the official release. Worth every penny if I may say. :)

@Kryndon64 Some Joysticks have software to support it (with drivers and button-customization software) Can be found in "control panel" go there, and look if you can find a setting for you joystick. If you found the right setting-menu or joystick software, look for calibration.... perhaps you will see that your joystick has a pref for left by default....

@Superjazzz As far as I'm aware they are indeed working on more content in the DCS series, however the current focus is on land attack aircraft, so F-15 is not likely any time soon.

Press M on the keyboard to cycle through the HOTAS master modes. You'll see the crosshairs change to the different modes like GUNS, CCIP, CCRP.

@JHayesAVFC He's likely using TrackIR, or maybe even FreeTrack. They're head tracking devices/software, which lets you control your in-game view with your head.

The visual check of the engines would be to confirm rotation of the fan (1st stage of the N1 spool), not a turbine. Also, If you're setting a COM radio to 127.5, its VHF FM, not VHF AM. Generally, the only AM radio still found on aircraft is the ADF reciever. I don't know if military aircraft even still carry them. Those were the biggest problems I found with this video. Which is FREAKING AMAZING. I cant wait to blow up tanks. :D

@Arch and Dio, As complicated as these jets are, you'll find a lot of planes are not so much about brains and more about getting the feel of the craft - my brother's flight instructor told us this, and although I've never flown real planes (RCs, and Combat sims), I can say that's a good way of putting it. I used to be hopeless at playing Wings of Prey in sim mode, but after some practice it's like second nature to me. However, my chair feels nothing like a real plane, so I can't really fly yet.

@LJFHutch KA-50 is abit more complex - but just run through it a few times, and get one of those offline PDF checklists to help you out. Took me a few days to get every step rigth every time. Dont give up though :)

Yeah A10's normally get flown to a theater of operations via C17, or possibly C5's if they have the room, not sure about the first Desert Storm, as there were squadrons based in Europe. Glad to see a new sim based on the ugliest, yet most effective CAS/air to ground plane ever made.

I have a really cheap joystick without a duel thruster thing and its actually attached to the joystick and its just a small flap that you push up to boost the thrust. It wont let me click and move the thrusters or anything to get them to go to idle. how can I do this without at expensive joystick?

@indirulz1234 dude, there is more than one reason to have a lot of buttons at our disposal on the cockpits. First reason i could point is to force the pilot to know the systems and how they operate, that being said it may be controversial but it simplifies things on the plane, that´s because the systems can be independent the pilot itself connect them and disconnect them, so when we have a failure we know where it is and possibly we can figure the best move to solve it or to go around.

This may sound like a stupid question and I never thought of it until seeing this vid. It seems that it would be very easy to accidentaly hit an important switch like the fuel pump toggle switches and turn one or more off in flight. Is there a master switch to critical components that bypasses the switches once the plane is powered up?

@paradox459 try when you run the pc, press f8 before windows loads, and start with provisory mode. Or search by start for services, and disable all non system stuff, then try

iv done all this but i cant get the throttles to move im using a x52 pro stick thats works fine in the turorial but the throttles just dont movewhich buttons can i use instead?
