Also, this is pretty much exactly how I set up my portable turntables, like my OMNI, or my Reloop Spin, where I have it powered by my power bank, and its totally portable! And from what you just explained, its the same portable set up, & has all the bells & whistles of a Pioneer mixer, and then some, as well too! Definitely sold me already, with the smartphone set up 🔥💯👍🙏😎🎵🎶🎧

after about 15 years of privately "creating mixes" pretty much manually through various audio/ dj software, i finally bit the bullet and bought this as my very first proper controller. very excited to mess about with this, really get a feel for proper, more modern dj'ing, to get into this artform and bring experiences to people who are also passionate about music

I think more people will be interested in the mobile djing side. I mean agoriddim app is so in depth and functional we don’t need to use the regular proprietary software. Or need laptops Like idk if rekorbox Dj and all that is great but the kids these days are mainly using algoriddim. The market is different now vs years ago. SERATO, rekordbox… algoriddim etc They’re tapping both markets new and old. This will most likely be the future. It’s almost perfect for any interested market

Interested about the upcoming iOS version of rekorbox and its a neat little controller to add to a portable setup...I have only 1 problem the smart cfx I find completely useless to be honest not sure which scenario would fit in mixing maybe 2 of them are good.Can it be change to a filter instead??Would be nice to have resonance control too for the filter.

FLX for flexible maybe? Their naming conventions have never been too consistent, like the use of XDJ for the all-in-one systems and the XDJs which were CDJs with no CD port

I believe it is shorthand for "Flex" as in flexible, as they work with multiple software platforms. Prior models that were locked to one platform have had naming schemes such as RB, SB, SRT etc to denote if they worked with Rekordbox or Serato.

SmartFader with the full tempo effect works in rekordbox. In Serato, only an echo effect engages.

The DDJ-FLX4 is a rekordbox "hardware unlock" device. When connect it to the computer with rekordbox, it will "unlock" the capability to DJ with the software.

Let’s break your question down into two: 1. Is it natively supported? No. There is no officially mapping for any version of Ableton. 2. Can it be used in Ableton? Yes. Because the DDJ-FLX4 is a MIDI device AND an audio device, it can be mapped and assigned for use in Ableton.

Just got a flx4 for my son to start mixing. Haven’t decided which software to use yet. Need to now buy a laptop that has avx (think that is what software said it needs). In the meantime was trying a tablet with the lightning type charger. Tried rekorbox, I can get the flx4 interact with ipad, but can’t get audio from speakers. It is off course connected BT. As for controller-ipad, got a usbc to lightning charger/sync cable that I believe is the problem. Doesn’t charge either ipad nor my iphone. Tried cable from other source and did work. Any ideas?

Great review! Glad I did not but the DDJ-400 How about the headphones connectivity? Can I use my bluetooth headphones on this?

The Bluetooth functionality is Bluetooth MIDI only. No audio is transmitted from the controller, so you cannot use Bluetooth headphones. The reason is because Bluetooth technology currently has too much latency (lag) in audio transmission, that a DJ would not be able to properly mix. This is why we don’t see Bluetooth audio done with headphones with DJ gear.

Hello, I bought DDJ FLX4 yesterday and I'm using rekordbox for Windows. I have this problem. Am unable to use headphones as Master, it only produces sound when I use turn on cue button. I don't want to use external speakers since I'm doing practice.

It’s not recommended to use Bluetooth speakers with DJ gear because of the latency, which causes a lag in the signal.

The Bluetooth capability is not for headphones on the DDJ-FLX4. It’s for Bluetooth MIDI to wirelessly control DJ software on a mobile device.

Stupid question here. I’m interested in learning how to dj, so i was looking into the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 2. I have a pair of old Bose speakers, pretty sure they are from the 80’s or something, so I have them hooked up to a Pioneer SX-950 reciever. Can I plug the DDJ into the receiver? Or should I bite the bullet and buy more modern speakers?

If the receiver has an RCA line input, sometimes labeled as a “CD input”, you can plug it into the receiver. Please be careful not to plug it into an RCA input labeled “phono” since that only works for vinyl turntables.

So it connects right up to my laptop. Controls serato with no additional drivers. But on my PC, nothing. Ive been searching for a solution for this problem but cant find one. Everything lights up, just doesnt control anything in serato on my PC like it does on my laptop. Both windwos both extremely powerful builds.

The Bluetooth MIDI capability is for the upcoming rekordbox Mobile which is to be released in early 2023. Bluetooth MIDI does not work with a laptop.

SmartFader in Serato behaves as a fader echo. In rekordbox it behaves as a tempo shifter while applying EQ and FX.

The audio output of the DJ controller is RCA. You can connect it using an RCA to 1/8th-inch (aka aux) to connect to your speaker. It is important to note that some portable speakers may have a lag due to digital latency.

The DDJ-FLX4 is capable of everything the DDJ-400 can do, but with additional features that include Serato support, Smart Mixing, USB type C with Power Delivery, and Bluetooth MIDI with the upcoming rekordbox Mobile.

Currently, Spotify is not supported on any DJ software or hardware. However, several streaming services are supported by rekordbox and Serato, which work with the DDJ-FLX4. The audio output from the DDJ-FLX4 when used with an Android device can come from the DJ controller. There is an Mono/Stereo switch on the DDJ-FLX4 for use with Android so you have both the headphone cue channel as well as the master channel.

No because USB Type-C is reverse compatible. You can use a cable that is USB-A to USB-C.

It is officially supported by rekordbox and Serato. However, Virtual DJ has beeen known to support Pioneer DJ products after release, whether it is officially or unofficially. Check with their website for their list of supported units!

I'm confused about the cables... if I want to charge the mac with my 96V cable while playing, is a 20V iPhone plug + usb c cable for the FLX4 controller enough?

Power delivery is only for mobile devices. If you have a Mac, plug power to you Mac, and plug the USB cable to the DDJ-FLX4. This will power your FLX4.

FLX4 USB connection problem after Win10 shuts down / restarts. 💥 After Laptop / PC power is OFF (restart / shut down / hibernate). Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 automatically disconnects from Windows. Helping only reattaching USB cable. FLX4 controller connected via USB-C (Type-C) to USB-A adapter or cable DDJ-FLX4 firmware 1.02 USB port 3.0 & 2.0 Win10 x64 / Version 22H2 / 120.2212.4190.0 Does anyone have a similar problem and have a solution?

Great video, but how does a person connect this strictly to their iPhone, where, supposedly it’s been released in mobile DJing is available, I can’t seem to find one simple video, explaining how to connect all the wires and connections, whether wireless or wired, and how to make it 100% mobile, and do I have to use Wi-Fi or can I DJ without Wi-Fi and still stream? Because it’s my understanding that you can’t stream music without Wi-Fi signal! So it makes me wonder how this is 📱MOBILE, considering it sounds like you need a Wi-Fi signal, and there’s no Wi-Fi signal on top of a mountain chopper out in the desert?? is it only 📱MOBILE DJ compatible with my iPhone if I have music in my own library saved in my phone or something? Because I have a brand new phone that has barely any music saved to it about all I have on my new iPhone is streaming services, and the music I’ve been building up and collecting in my Apple Music app.👍🏻😎🙏🏻 when I had my android Stylo, four phone couple months ago, that phone has about 5000 songs, downloaded and converted into WAV files👍🏻 but where I switched recently to an iPhone SE 2, I’m basically not sure how to take. All my music saved to my android, USB flash drives, and my android phone, and somehow transfer it all to an iPhone, so that I can essentially have access to all my music I’ve been saving up for years on an android, but use it on an iPhone.? Thanx again 👍🏻👌🏻🙏🏻😎💯🔥

You can connect the DDJ-FLX4 to an iPhone two ways: 1. Use a lightning to USB-C cable. 2. Connect it via Bluetooth. You will need to power the FLX4 with a USB power supply or power bank.

Okay, so how do i set up the Tidal streaming app, like I’m signed in on Tidal within Rekordbox DJ, but can I run this without WiFi, or is wifi needed? Like, how do I run this 100% without wifi, & without a computer, only the iPhone, & the device, & my JBL Partybox100 speaker… 👍🏻🙏🏻😎👍🏻👌🏻🙏🏻😎💯🔥

It does not use Wi-Fi to connect to each other. It is only either a USB cable or Bluetooth. Bluetooth is not Wi-Fi.

@@PioneerDJUSA thank you, but I wasn’t asking about the connection as far as the device goes, I was talking about does it require Wi-Fi to stream music and if it does, then, how is it technically portable, where there’s no Wi-Fi signal for example, on a mountaintop or on a river bed or in the woods?? Lol thanks my friend 👍🏻 I’m basically trying to figure out how I can gain access to music through streaming apps, or just have access to some of my music., And not have to rely on a Wi-Fi signal in order to do that.?? Thanks man I had recently just switched from my android Stylo, four phone, to an iPhone SE 2👍🏻 but all my music that I had been collecting for the last decade, has been on android platforms, and where I’m switched over to an iPhone now, I don’t know how to either get all of my music that was downloaded on android and converted into WAV files, or how to utilize my music list on Apple Music or tidal, within the Rekordbox DJ app. Also, I do not own a computer or a laptop. So I am basically trying to figure out how to do all this with strictly just my iPhone but yeah, I meant is Wi-Fi required to run this device for your music? Not is it required to set up the connection between the device and the phone👍🏻😎

Your iPhone can stream music either using using wireless data (LTE, 4G, 5G, ect) or connected to a network via Wi-Fi. Details on that can provided by your wireless carrier.
