The only difference btwn him and messi is that messi always place you in a position where you have no choice but to score (he takes the defender and sometimes the keeper away from you and set you in a position where you can conveniently kick the ball inside the goal post), he put up against only the post literally while de debruyne might put you in a position whereas if you are not really a good striker u might find it hard to score And am not saying de bruyne is bad, he is arguably the greatest midfielder to play this game but not the best playmaker, Messi is(the assist and playmaker award says it, statistic don`t lie)
