Watching Disturbed cover "Sound of Silence." We didn't know who Disturbed was, but this was a great introduction to them!

His voice range is actually very diverse despite the genre he general does, he could do way more than that sound. I think a lot of metal singers can they just chose to have a style for certain songs. Singing raspy and on tone like he does take talent even with his usual singing. You could tell his voice is very strong.

David was classically trained as a Cantor. He comes from generations of them. To this day he has no tattoos in deference to his respect for his grandfather and his heritage. He even removes his piercings. Not only is he a master of his vocal instrument but is an honorable man. Mad respect to him. I hear his band mates are good men as well... Also, Simon, the original songwriter said it was as much David's now as his. Many say that Simon's was a warning, where David's was angry that no one listened.

Well said. Simon and Garfunkel was the warning and future prediction. Disturbed laid it down to what the world has become. It's not just a song it is life as we know it. Paul Simon said himself this song now belongs to Disturbed.

I had to look up what that meant. Now the suggestion I got from the video makes sense!! Xx I could tell it was about speaking to people and bringing them together through music. Though I saw it more as everyone, despite background, could come together theough music, a way of sharing experience without words even. ( think thats just my dream of an ideal world of course) But yes, I love his voice, the video and the message.

Simon & Garfunkel recorded this in 1964 and the song is about the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly intentionally, but especially emotionally. So, what you see are people not being able to love each other. Sadly, I believe this was foreshadowing current events, and is most relevant to the times we are living today. And I have to agree "Disturbed" made this song his own and with his delivery being sung so "threateningly" it's as if he is screaming trying to wake people up to this fact.

I hope you will welcome a new subscriber even if I am an old hippie. I came of age with Simon and Garfunkel..... Their original song was meant as a warning of where the world was going to since we weren't communicating with each other.. some of us were and saw that warning. However I found that Disturbed's cover began with sadness that the masses did not heed the warning and it ended in veiled anger and frustration that the prophets words were not listened to. Thank you for reading this and my next suggestion is "Hold on to memories" by Disturbed.

I still can't listen to, or watch the video for, Hold on to Memories without tearing up. Such a beautiful and affecting song. From Down with the Sickness (bomb-ass song, btw) to Sound of Silence to The Vengeful One to Hold on to Memories, I am so impressed with the the bands willingness and David's ABILITY to successfully venture into to so many different sounds. Brilliant. Down with the Sickness, however, will always hold a special place in my heart and it is so very classicaly Disturbed that it gets me pumped every time.

Is there any reaction on the entirety of youtube, to Disturbeds cover of this song that does NOT have this comment copy-pasted into it? I mean this part: "Their original song was meant as a warning of where the world was going to since we weren't communicating with each other.. some of us were and saw that warning. However I found that Disturbed's cover began with sadness that the masses did not heed the warning and it ended in veiled anger and frustration that the prophets words were not listened to." One part really pissed me off though: "However I found that Disturbed's cover began with sadness that the masses did not heed the warning" "However I found" "I found" Dude, this is written on EVERY reaction video of this song. Yet you write as if you came up with this.

That's who we were, who I still am. And darned proud of it. I never lost my yearning for peace.

David Draiman - the frontman for Disturbed has lobbied often to be able to sing the Star Spangled Banner (a/k/a The National Anthem) before the SuperBowl. The NFL is too conservative, I guess. The song to me speaks of how many people have been stopped by the silence of people not speaking up. Put it in context of of the oppressed and the masses accepting it but there are whispers of outrage and dissent - written on walls as graffiti etc and slowly the world changes and the quiet whispers become roars.

As others have said the live version is absolutely amazing. However, this video resonates so deeply with me when you consider our current world and the lack of communication within it. Especially, the visual at the end of the song. People on one side carry sheets of music, but no instruments to play it. People on the other side have instruments, but no music to play. It’s only by coming together, is the real beauty seen and heard. Powerful imagery when you think of it in the context of our current society. This is how to deliver a very important message imho. I've never listened to the lyrics (grew up with S and G version) because the original melody was so boring. Until Disturbed covered it. Oh my, David made me listen! I only could cry 😢 😭 and still, I cry or have goosebumps all over my body. HUGE MESSAGE TO US ALL. His voice, the so true message and this video, pure perfection. Communication, face to face, sooooooo VERY important. In the 60's, TV was bad for communication. Coming home, couch hanging/TV watching is deadly for Communication. But nowadays, internet and SM...........MORE DEADLY! Ppl are nothing more than keyboard / SM monkeys nowadays imo. Talking without speaking and definitely hearing without listening. REALLY listening to eachother, really communicating with eachother, face to face and listen, really listen to what the other has to tell you. SM is definitely NOT social at all. I loved your reaction to this cover, so much symbolism in this cover, I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul. This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones. "Neon light that split the night", I remember when neon light would turn on there would be a crackling sound thus touched the sound of silence. Suggestion = The official video by Disturbed “Hold On To Memories” was released Jan 23rd 2020. “Hold on to Memories" is about not only honoring those we’ve lost, but also making the most of our time with those we still have.

If you haven't heard Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen I would love to watch you listen to that. You will know you have the one to listen to because it has over 1.6 billion views. The studio version. Normally I like the live versions best but this song is one that you have to watch the studio version to get the full effect since there are some things they couldn't do on a stage. I didn't see that you had done any Queen songs. Queen has a huge following and would draw people to your channel in droves. Freddie Mercury was the best front man/singer that ever lived. You could feel the peoples love for him and he truly loved them back. One example to really see him in action with his crowd is to watch his song Love of my Life in his Rock in Rio concert it was the largest paying audience in history at that time. Also his Live Aid concert should be watched which is still said to be the best concert of any and all concerts still today. I also didn't see any Led Zeppelin and the live version to Stairway to Heaven would be one that will get you hooked on them. I am subscribing to your channel because I do like this song and have never seen you before. I liked the reaction so I looked up to see if you did other songs I like. There are a couple but I will look forward to seeing you do the awesome bands of the 60's and 70's that so many young people are getting hooked on which is what I grew up with and love to watch the faces hearing true talent with no technological fixes like they do today.

I have been listening to Disturbed from the beginning and this was the first song that I have really heard them in a slower song like this and boy did they deliver. His voice is unreal. Hope y'all are doing good, LC's been looking out.

This song was a revelation to those of us that grew up listening to the Simon n Garfunkel version. David Draiman is unreal. Now react to the video of them doing Down with the Sickness. Heavy metal but excellent!

you said "I feel ignorant", treasure that feeling! its the best feeling! that is the only feeling that lets you know that you have something you can learn. I dont mean in this case in particular, but in general, it is one of the big useful feelings, like love and fear.

Paul SIMON & Art GARFUNKEL are the original artists. I agree, this is now David Draimons song. I am 63 years old & have always loved this song. However, I never heard the meaning behind it until hearing it covered by Disturbed. Goosebumps and tears... still, everytime I hear it. I love watching people react to him owning this song.

"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from the "Defence of Fort M'Henry", a poem written on September 14, 1814, by 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key... WOW !

Enjoyed this reaction, well done. The live performance is as good. If he was a mainstream vocalist many more people would know his music but I love the fact he stayed true to the genre that made his band!!!

While I know this is a Simon and Garfunkle cover because my dad loved their music, I like that they kept the song accurate and didn't try to turn it something that it is not.

He did a sort of making of for this. He said he was Really nervous to do this song. The original is such a classic he didn't know if he should. Then he does This and Paul Simon, the writer of the original classic says. This is how it was supposed to be. Thank You for showing us All!

@@lianabaddley8217 That is similar to the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt by Nirvana, Trent Reznor loved it so much he said that song now belonged to Johnny Cash. Kind of funny to see a modern rocker like the old school flare more than his own version.

@@2strokinit527 I also Love Hurt as well! I saw somewhere Trent said he was born to write it for Johnny to sing it. I Also grew up listening to The Man in Black! I was so glad they made Walk the Line so my Hubby could understand how awesome he REALLY was!

"Sound of Silence" was composed and performed by the duo Simon & Garfunkel - the composer is Paul Simon, and the other singer is Art Garfunkel. The next great cover is by the Acapella group called "Pentatonix," who are magnificent. This performance, however, actually Makes you Listen to the words and what is being said, that came from the turbulent '60s (1966).
