Hey Ben…I have the original wooden paddle prop from my dad’s 47 Bonanza…I stripped the silver paint yrs ago…they removed it from service in 68…and now it is leaning against the wall in my bedroom…what a beautiful piece of history…cool vids…keep them coming.

That is so cool! I’d love to find one serviceable, but I doubt there are any out there.

You are correct. D'Shannon tips do use a transfer pump on each tip to pump to that sides main tank.

Good to see you’re back, Ben! Good video on components and differences. Found a new “steward” for our 1947 Bonanza. He’ll soon be a proud owner!

D-23 is on sale on TradeAPlane right now, if anyone wants something super vintage. Came from the factory with fabric covered ruddervators and flaps, IIRC.

On the E Series the oil is leaking back into the case through the check valve. As stated you must check after shut down. Preferably as soon as you shut down. Yes I check during preflight to see if there is oil on the chain.
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot 4 ай бұрын
Checking oil cold at least to see some oil on the chain makes sense to me. I may have misheard Lew when he was discussing checking oil, but if I recall correctly he said to only check oil at shutdown.
@johnmajane3731
@johnmajane3731 4 ай бұрын
@@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot the only accurate measure of the level is right after shutting down. Checking cold tells you there is something in the tank and nothing else.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, getting told you don’t know enough to make an instructional video on the E-series Bonanzas by the guy who wrote the book on the E-series Bonanzas kind of bites, but I didn’t make the video for him. I made it for my viewers who may or may not already know basic info about these birds.

Can you touch on the shoulder harness installation that I could while you were pointing out the emergency window exit. Thanks.
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot 4 ай бұрын
Sure can! It’s a very simple installation using existing screw holes by the headliner. I think the holes may have originally been used for sun visors for the back seat pax. Don’t know what the shear strength is for those holes, but it’s bound to be better than just having the lap belts without any shoulder restraint at all.
@thepacketnarc7634

They’re called ‘lightening’ holes because they ‘lighten’ that particular assembly. Not to be confused with ‘Lightning’ holes 😂
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot 3 ай бұрын

@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot 3 ай бұрын
@@thepacketnarc7634 I guess my round about almost logic was, “obviously the assembly is lighter due to the holes, and lighter is faster, so maybe making the holes makes the plane fast as lightning.”

Interesting video. Do you guys ever clean your airplane? I know they fly fine dirty but seriously.....
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot 4 ай бұрын
Lol I clean my dads plane all the time. It’s a useless gesture because it gets dirty again literally the next flight. The 2100 hr engine leaks oil like a sieve, we mist MMO throughout the airframe every couple of years for corrosion prevention bad it seeps out all the skin joints, and landing off airport 95% of the time means a pretty good amount of mud and grass get in the gear and interior of the plane. What you’re seeing is clean. You should see what it looks like now.

Interesting that your dad is 6'8" and fits, I'm 6'7" and I would like to take flight lessons. But it always seemed like it would be about as comfortable as a dungeon in small planes. Maybe not. The 35s in these two videos, they look pretty much stock as they came back in the 40s and 50s, is that correct? Maybe besides the propellers. I have seen some for sale on some of the airplane sale sites for almost reasonable money, but then when I look at the interiors and panels the first thought on my mind is that it's going to take $50-$100K to bring them up to snuff. But you guys seem to op them vintage. Do you find yourself replacing a lot of parts at annuals or are they reasonably reliable?
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot 4 ай бұрын
We do Vfr only flight, so I get by with bone stock panel with a decent con radio and flight plan go free gps on my phone for navigation. I can go all over the country day or night with that set up. I have no experience with ifr flight, but I imagine it would take a lot of upgrading to make our fleet ifr capable.
@JimBronson
@JimBronson 4 ай бұрын
@@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot Ok, thanks. There are things that I would like to have but don't have to have. I would like the instruments and panel to look clean though, I assume that's something that could be done with some elbow grease.

Lol it’s an inside joke of sorts. My brother had a friend re-edit my intro using airplane noises I apparently made in the last KZfaq video (De-Mystifying part 1). I had no idea I had made so many airplane noises during the video, but apparently I did. I laughed so hard when they showed me, that I promised I would put it in as my intro in the next video.
