Again I wanna be clear Valve intended for the game to use sub-tick input and actions, so if you "de-sub-tick" actions in the game, proceed at your own risk. The most important thing is that they address this and because of all these discoveries they are practically FORCED to do something about it now.

i tried the binds and it only made the shooting even worse. the problem with shooting is much greater than just the sub tick.@@rahulahl

@@J0rdanIRL I have 3K hours pub hopping in CSS, GO and now CS2, the alias binds make consistency of hops worlds easier. Those who say it does not affect hopping are in fact, huffing copium.

Yea i fixed it by not playing cs anymore. I have over 8k hours on csgo and 1.6 combined. CS2 simply ain't here yet imo

Oh yeah for sure they are. Just like they fixed 128 tick servers by removing them or all the console commands that are missing(I can’t even do voice_scale) or how they fixed a completely good game by removing it and replacing it with an open beta

Making the game better or making it more like the old game they spent thousands of hours in? CSS: 1.6 players "You can't spray in this game!!1!!" CSGO: 1.6 och CSS players "You can't spray in this game!!!!1!" 10 years later they're still playing CSGO...

​@@skaggigocharg06no they're not, because CSGO isn't around any more, so they can't be playing it. And CSS was the closest this game came to dying, I skipped it and kept playing 1.6 like most, which is the only reason CSGO became popular, it was a return to the spirit of 1.6. But guess what, THAT'S NOT AN OPTION NOW, so I'm sure the community would have been less pissed and more constructive if they hadn't replaced the old game. These aren't issues that take 'more testing' to fix, they're baked into the sub-tick design, and Valve just wanted a way to avoid investing in 128 tick servers. It backfired and the game now feels 32 tick. How can you criticize the community when there's proof on top of proof that this sub-tick crap doesn't work as intended? It should go in the same genius innovations bin as v-sync.

Really wish Valve would outright explain their aversion to 128 tick. They designed a whole new system instead of it, so I’d hazard a guess there’s some significant reason for it outside of just “cheaping out”

Because the sub-tick system, if you care to actually read in your life for once, simply sends commands faster to the server. Much better than 64 and 128 tick.

Yes! This. Even if you want 128 tick or not as a player, I would love to hear their reasoning today. No one really complained about 128 tick so it's interesting to know why they dismissed it.

I can 100 % imagine Valve doing that, lol. Like when there was a vulnerability in HintText. Instead of patching it, they just disabled colors and fonts, breaking a lot of plugins. Or with the smoke bug, when `record` caused smokes and molotovs to disappear for a split second. They "fixed" it by limiting the `record` command to freezetime, making it a major pain in the butt for community server players to collect evidence of cheating and misconduct.

That reminds me of when Capcom patched SF5 to break the community fix for the dodgy netcode, they would eventually fix it themselves but it took 4 years and some random dude fixing it first.

If Valve removes the Alias command I think Vallve would be senndinga very strong message to us at that point, I would consider that to be the second part of the same message when the hard cksed 64 tick when Faceit came around.

If they don't get CS2 feeling better than CSGO soon they are throwing away a golden opportunity. They knew exactly what everyone wanted, 128 tick. They decided (seemingly from greed) not to do that despite being the most profitable company in the U.S (per capita of employees).

I’ve been playing for about 10-12 hours with the all the aliases in my auto exec, and maybe it’s just placebo but I actually feel a lot more consistent. TimeIsButaWindow made a great video about it and he experienced how the settings made it feel like you had less acceleration but things like counter strafing felt almost spot on to GO in contrast to the almost slidey and smooth feeling of default cs2 movement, and I gotta say I can definitely notice what he says in the slow acceleration, however the movement aspect feels so much more consistent now, maybe because I’m used to GO but either way I’m sticking with them just because of how consistent it’s made my gameplay.

I reeeeeeeeally love how the community comes together and keeps on pushing Valve. On the same note, I also hate how this game just got "released" and is basically in open beta. In the end the whole community will strive to get the absolutely best experience out of CS2 and I think this cannot be "stopped". If Valve does not fix those issues it seems like the community will just go and develop their own plugin to fix those issues on dedicated Servers like Faceit or eSportal.

To be fair, the community has always been doing this with CS. For example, during GO's lifetime, the community discovered and reported issues with hitboxes and made videos just like this and Valve eventually came up with a fix. It was the community that pushed Valve, and GO wasn't in beta either. This feels par for the course tbh

one thing that really ticks me off with CS2, is that crouch jumping feels very inconsistent. e.g. when trying to jump on a ledge, that you wouldn't be able to land on, if you weren't to perfom a crouch-jump. Maybe the inconsistency is a result of sub-tick?

I think sub-tick is a rabbit hole Valve got themselves into without realizing just how deep it would get. Now there's no way back, they HAVE to make it work. The success of the game depends on it.

Watched, i started using the aliases and it literally feeks so much better. I can bhop way more consistently and the game just feels right. I hope they actually improve subtick rather than just removing the alias and not changing anything.

You can do it in a clean way, without the use of aliases and without having overhead or console errors by binding it like this: bind w "+forward;//" bind s "+back;//" bind a "+left;//" bind d "+right;//" bind ctrl "+duck;//" bind shift "+sprint;//" bind space "+jump;//" this is also tournament legal!

sub tick works great if u actually try to play the game. its every new version the same story and it are the same people the problem is nowadays these people are louder than ever. and content creators are feeding into it because at the end of the day they are pathetic leeches and thats just how it is

@@paveltovv Well there is a lot wrong with the game right now, definitely not as up to par as csgo was but csgo had over a decade of continuous updates to be fair. Being vocal about the problems and seeing the game played professionally should ensure speedy updates. There are some people like Lobanjica who over dramatize everything (perhaps for clicks? who knows...) Valve isn't incompetent though and I'm certain all of this will be cleared up... all except for the anticheat which is my worst fear for the game at the moment ; - ;

The only thing I'm going to say is that in the last 4-5 updates we didn't get any gameplay updates. I think this is here to stay, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve decides to hardcode alias command out of the game just like they did with 128tick.

Binding the alias jump bind to mwheeldown for jumping/bunnyhopping made bunnyhopping a LOT better for me. way more consistent hitting continuous bunnyhops

I wonder if cs_showpos is tied to client tickrate or fps, cause then that would explain the inconsistent jump height. As in you reach max height in-between 2 ticks and it doesn't show up on showpos

Maybe, but that would mean there's a separate bug causing jump distance to be inconsistent, as shown in the Mirage clip in the video. Hopefully Valve can figure out what's causing that as well.

In CS:GO, `cl_showpos 1` showed the engine position (tied to FPS), and `cl_showpos 2` showed the "true" (tied to tickrate) position. Source: I just checked the source, game/client/vgui_fpspanel.cpp.

Likely it's tied to tickrate as everything still seems to be sync'd to the tickrate even client side, it just resolves the actions using the "subtick" timestamps on that tick. So you could be on to something there.

I have been wondering this for a while now, but what is the difference between CS2s subtick system and Overwatch's "High Precision Mouse Input" setting? I understand that the overwatch setting (not to be confused with the CS cheat thing) only affects aim, so that's the only area I would be wondering about. All these "issues" people are having with the sub-tick settings with consistency are similar to what I initially felt when toggling the setting in Overwatch. However, Overwatch allows each user to turn the setting on and off. Could a setting like this be implemented in CS2? If Overwatch could do it in 2019, surely valve could do it in 2023.

*watched* I noticed jumps are inconsistent like try it on mirage outside of ramp in CSGO if you wanted to jump up to the palace without your head sticking out you only crouch jumped now in cs2 it doesn't works everytime. The same goes for triple box jumping up there is now not so easy and consistent ty for these updates videos they really help ♥

Also the jump towards the hole in Window from CT side is inconsistent.. I felt like I lost all my skills. I always perfetcly jumped into that hole in CsGo, but in CS2 I either jump to far or I get stuck in that hole somehow, losing all that precious time for a fast peek.

Okay so it seems the server is literaly just being sent the command followed by the timestamp, so does that mean we could manipulate that timestamp to be always exactly halfway between two ticks as well as on tick? effectively creating a command that does movement/shooting etc at a consistent 128 ticks... half being subtick inputs, and half being ontick... no more random delay, but still feels better than 64 tick? Something like 'bind mouse1 "+attack ;-attack ;+attack ;-attack ;clear"'

Supposedly the community doesn't understand the system at all. It only sends YOUR inputs much faster to the server, on a sub-tick basis. As was explained in the video. It is better than 128tick and 64 tick.

@@phunnymannfromphunnyland As far as I understand it, it doesn't send it faster, but it updates certain game information between ticks. Those certain informations are shooting and movement related and while I still more or less believe in it and hope it gets figured out (csgo was a much bigger mess in the beginning) and they are able to dial it in, it certainly has a bunch of problems (and 128 tick would've been much easier and certainly better in the short term or even better a dialed in sub-tick on 128 base tick). E.g. some sub-tick actions are related to "full-tick" actions like animations, which causes discrepancies, also there are inconsistencies in the movement which are in conflict with more complex movement skills. I never was much of a movement god and I think the basic movement is completely fine and very close to 64-tick CSGO, but stuff like bhopping and other movement techniques are limited or basically impossible. I loved to bhop a little bit even in 64 MM just for fun and I hit 1-3 bhops quite frequently, but in CS2 I rarely hit a single one and my only explanation is sub-tick.

I'm having a ton of fun playing CS2. It is more exciting to have the new game with the new smokes, etc. But, I'm also glad these super hardcore people exist that care about consistency and the competitive nature of the game. These people help keep CS2 the pure shooting game it's always been. It needs to be the gold standard, if it loses that then it's just another silly game.

The only Alias binds ESL allows for CS2 are jump throws right now. Maybe they’ll make an exception for CS2.

Watched! Do you think that Valve would ever consider this an exploit/mechanic abuse in the same category as cheating? Since we're literally messsing with the game's code, albeit in an almost harmless way I could see them having a hardass approach to the behavior. Like maybe even seeing it as ban worthy in the worst case?

I anyways tapfire a lot, and most of my sprays miss regardless of the situation, so I don't find much of an issue with subticks for myself. However, the inconsistency in movement (especially counter strafing) definitely makes the game worse feeling. For now I only have movement de-subticked.

i de-subticked WASD, jumping, mouse1 and shift the game - besides still feeling a bit sluggish - feels so much more consistent now i can finally hit bunnyhops and flicks again, jiggling and peeking is robust, the game feels like its flowing much better if they remove these aliases without making a proper implementation, i genuinely think i wont touch the game for a couple months i had beta since the first roll-out, and cs2 has always been frustrating to play for me until de-subticking

I love that the community is doing so much testing on absolutely everything. This way valve can actually fix these problems. If people just say "it feels different" that means absolutely nothing to Valve. I am no programmer but this looks like a tough problem to solve but still possible and I hope they fix it because on paper sub-tick is the real solution to the problem that 128 tick is just a band-aid for and loosing sub-tick for 128 tick would be extremely disappointing (they should still do 128 tick just so the annoying people in the community shut up). I also wonder if citadel (valve´s next multiplayer game) will use sub-tick.

Half of these viral tests are debunked a week later, despite everyone saying they were a miracle cure. The jump one looks pretty cut and dry to me, but this games community is really, really, reeeaaaallly, stupid. Valve knows this. Their testing is superior to the community's, they know what they are doing. They know which issues are real, and which are completely imagined (most). Completely ignoring this dumbfuck community is almost always the best course of action.

as a programmer, i dont realy see how the sprays can be messed up, also i cant for the life of me understand how the movement got worse with subtick-tracking. My best guess is that they fundamentaly changed all the subtick-ed actions to maybe have some sort of serverside interpolation and for example the jump action is interpreted as "they jumped .009 seconds ago so their vertical speed is X instead of the actions causing effects to happen. But that would also be stupid, and i highley doubt they would have done something like that.

Not an expert in game development and physics calculations, but I do think that could explain it - an action started at the exact timestamp snapshotted by the client begins processing at the next tick, but relative to the time it started. So if the player jumps right in the middle of 2 ticks - 7.8125 ms (15.625 ms at 64 TPS / 2) since the last tick - the peak of the jump might land in between 2 ticks, so you only see the height updated at those fixed ticks. Similar to audio downsampling. A sine wave cannot be sampled with infinite resolution, but can be reconstructed from the available information up to half the sampling frequency, even if the "shape" of the raw samples doesn't look like the original wave.

my method for desubticking is `+action;name` because steam handles setting that cvar so no errors happen and it doesnt cause anything

I have my movement keys de-subticked and I cant say I notice much since I dont have a lot of hours in CS (and so cant tell much difference)(and back in csgo I BARELY did any kzing and bhop practice, and I did like zero surfing), my performance has been about the same. Well considering aim is more important (and game-sense and utility knowledge), and I play maps that dont require skilled movement, I can see why de-subticking my movement has a small effect on my performance edit: whoa I didnt know you can also de-subtick your shooting button. Urg, I dont want to sacrifice the subtick of mouse1 just for consistent sprays, so I'll just stick to subtick for shooting

I really feel like the root cause of this inconsistency is the presentation - in other words, the sounds, animation and visuals just don't line up to their subtick counterparts, making things feel weird. I have a gut feeling people will prefer to play "desubticked" (why not unsubticked?!) because their experience with their character will feel better, even if their inputs are messed up.

Posting this because nobody seems to know how subtick actually works, The game isn't processing your inputs faster your game isn't sending data faster or any of the other explanations i've read. Sub-tick allows the game to register your input the moment it happens instead of simply queueing it for the next tick. So in csgo you press shoot and depending on the time till the next tick (16 milliseconds for 64 tick) you shoot when that tick happens determining if you hit only takes in account where you are aiming when this tick happens. Cs2 registers the state and time when you gave that input so instead of shooting when the tick happens you send a command that tells the server how many milliseconds in the past you've shot and where you were aiming when you did that. This is goes for the movement etc too this is the only thing sub-tick does. As for the problems with the movement and jumping etc it seems that the inconsistent timings paired with the faster release commands cause inconsistencies. Think of holding W for a second cs has friction and acceleration and it takes a certain amount of time to reach a speed. Where pressing W in csgo would have you move for 16 milliseconds before the next tick can process a release command cs2 can be as little as 1 millisecond depending of when you press the button. It seems that queueing the release command with the alliases is fixing this issue.
