the staff are not teasing her. They're protecting her. There is a strong pecking order in any troop, and if it gets violated, the results can be very nasty indeed. They compensated by making her wait her turn, by troop rules, but then gave her the biggest apple they had. Too many monkeys have been either killed or badly injured (not in this troop) because people don't understand the pecking order. It's especially awful to witness when people hand food to baby monkeys. Yikes.

Great comment and may I add, this gal doesn’t play around when it comes to her apples. She’s been known to get in trouble trying to step ahead in the apple line.

The text along with the video said the park staff based their rules to follow the rules of the monkey troops. Feeding her out of turn, even though the monkey wants it, would make things worse for the monkey. Having a baby doesn't change the rules in a macaque troop.

No, I believe the male, she adopted him. They did both survive...

It is my understanding that one is adopted and I do believe it is the male. It seems the adopted baby would have died had she not adopted it. Both babies are about the same age. Where these monkeys are, all the babies are born almost the same time. Unlike say in Southeast Asia where the weather stays close to the same year round. They have births all year long. Something else, unlike in Southeast Asia, ALL these babies are the same breed of monkey. The Snow Monkeys and those on Monkey Hill seem to be far more loving and caring. I know this also applies with those monkeys on Monkey Hill in Hong Kong, as babies are born once a year and all are born generally in one month. There is the occasional baby born late. Unlike here where the winters are harsh, Monkey Hill generally gets into the upper 30's but it is quite windy. Like the Snow Monkeys, the monkeys on Monkey Hill have 2 different coats.

They aren't taken out of the wild, they are wild monkeys that live within a sanctuary system. They come and go as they please from the park to the forest. They cannot feed her before the alpha and beta male because it would disrupt the hierarchy and cause her to be attacked, which would put the babies at risk. She is the alpha matriarch and she will get the nutrition she needs from both the park feeders and through foraging. This park does a good job of making sure every monkey is fed, which is why mortality rates there are so low.

It doesn't work that way there is a strict hierarchy among the monkeys a pecking order you can't just feed a monkey more or first because she has two babies she's taking care of it depends on where in the hierarchy they stand if they get fed early they can be attacked by the other monkeys
