it also does cancel your dynamic brake I think, on some diesel loco you control with train brake but bleed the independent ones to effectively use the dynamic brakes.

yup, passenger train driver-candidate here, we use loco brake just to correct the speed when slowing down for next signal (but just few km/h difference, f.e. you pass "expect 40km/h" signal, your speed is 120km/h, so you slow down to 43km/h so you just use loco brake to correct the difference as we have 0km/h tolerance) or holding the train stationary in station/train stop... I was said to use the locomotive brake as little as possible, just as you said, to keep the wear as low as possible

@squirrel Mainly, you get yelled at when the recorder is downloaded automatically and sends messages to higher ups that limits have been exceeded. The guidelines are mainly to reduce wear and maintenance requirements, but the actual logic behind it is to reduce amperage spikes associated with rapid throttle adjustments. Waiting 10 seconds between throttle and dynamic allows the current to dissipate in the traction motors before you turn them into generators. This again reduces current spikes and general wear on components and actually makes the transition to dynamic smoother. The other part of it is slack. If you throttle up too fast you can easily break a knuckle due to high slack forces, and if you transition to dynamic too fast high buff forces of all the slack running in at once can derail lighter weight cars.

between changing direction we have to wait few seconds too, just because it´s mechanical switches operated by electropneumatical valves on some electrical locomotives... as well, going from 60% to 0% Fp (proportional thrust - long story short, it´s thyristor pulse regulation) you´d go in steps, 60%->40%->15%->0% just because if you´d dump straight into 0% Fp all the electrical current would overflow the condensers (filters) and dump back into traction motor rotor creating spikes which aren´t good for the engine.... imagine if game could simulate such behaviour, it´d be awesome

@@jasonskinner9064 All the features of the game are available both in VR and on flatscreen. The third person view is tied to difficulty settings. On the realistic difficulty, third person view or free cam are not available.

That's because it *is* the throttle and not a pump handle for priming. The starter switch (edit: real starter switch) is turned one way to engage the fuel pump and prime the system, then the opposite way to start, and the handle is a manual throttle control for the engine.

Yeah its gunna make it harder now with no remote control for de6 i use it all the time in derail valley now but thats gunna change when this next update comes out next week

@@michaelpearson9 I'm trying to break my bad habits now. I use the reverser with the DE2 while shunting to help with braking. Coupling with the DE6 too. I'm looking forward to having the dynamic brakes for coal/iron ore north runs though

thats only in low speeds, higher speed the motors are connected diffrently and temp does not rise that fast. must go through the low speeds with verry low regulator.

eventually wireless MU will be a thing. no need for remote for middle locos

Windows are low down and the sun is high up. You get some pretty dark areas with a combination like that, which ambient lighting just can't counter.

@@Squant I understand what you're saying but that is not how light works. The windows are big and enough light would get through. There is too little ambient light lighting the shadowy areas on the outside as well. I guess it is down to the game engine and it really doesn't matter that much. It was just an observation I made. I enjoy the game anyways. 🙂

The Devs have said the steamers are gonna be a just in time addition to simulator, with the new one possibly being a week or two after release, so ikd if they are in the beta version he has. If they are I would love to see them tho

It will be 39 Euros after sim release also. Depending on sales, maybe they will put a 10 or 20% on it later this summer.

I sometimes use the remote to run mid-train DPUs, so not being able to pair with a DE6 is very disappointing!

This is made from Yugoslav G16 and G26 locomotives. The whole game is suppose to be based on Balkans. DE2 i believe is a Czech shunter that Serbian railways bought and steamer is rather a place filler. DH4 suppose to be DB V100 but with some modifications, hope there would be more locomotives available soon.

I was wondering about that myself. Use 2 de6 and 1 de2 with a remote. Wonder if it'll work that way.

I was thinking the same thing lol. Previously it would help with engine cooling, but it appears that we can’t see the diesel engine temp anymore. Not sure if it has any bearing on the locos condition anymore.

@@hugos5114 on one hand I want to hope that they changed steam, on the other... I've seen many suicide blows from many a game developer over the years, especially when they start counting money and what is comercially viable and what isn't. Maybe someone added up the numbers in excel and it turned out that most players don't even care about steam :( And we won't have a Zeibach mod since he is on the payroll now

The game's name is pretty much just Derail Valley, Overhauled is the name of the last major update released in 2020, and that name got added to Derail Valley after the update was released. The new upcoming update (introducing weather systems and multiple game saves among other additions) is called Simulator, so the game will be changing from Derail Valley: Overhauled to Derail Valley: Simulator

The only positive thing about TSW is the graphics.

Think of it like all the named No Man's Sky patches. It's basically an unfinished game and the titles make it seem like you're getting more than you are when they're basically using the game sales to fund finishing the game.

You don't need a gearbox or clutch. Do you know how many gears Trucks have in comparison to cars? Now Imagine how many you would need for a loco. Afaik diesel mechanic was only realy used for some small shunters

@@c_l_b3744 Some trains outside of shunters did have gearboxes. The class 101 is a gen 1 Mu that was diesel-mechanical, Suprisingly it only had like 4-5 gears for the engine.

@@davidty2006 Class 101 is for passengers (so for light weight), but I doubt there is any non-shunter freight loco that would be diesel-mechanic.

Different types of loads weigh different amounts. Also, that's up one of the worst hills in the game, so I imagine it just changes how people play the game at first.... ie everyone will simply avoid hauling out of the harbour until they have the license(s) for more power.
