Sadly this would be Kenny Irwin Jr.'s last Cup race before his death at New Hampshire. His #42 car became the #01, then became owned by Chip Ganassi in 2001 and became the #41 in 2002.

This is how it should be. No mandatory yellows. Teams strategizing with each other. Strategized green flag pit stops. This is how it should always be. NASCAR needs someone in charge who really understands what the fans want. And it’s THIS.

I miss CBS, they covered NASCAR with class.
@brandynhenry710711 жыл бұрын
Coverage is suppose to provide the framework, the canvas, the atomosphere, but the event itself needs to paint the picture, that's the difference. That's what CBS did well, Ken Squier couldn't be a better example of that. Way too much overanalysis and meddling by the current crews, hell that's the problem with all media in general today.

I remember how the mandated shock package that year really made the Fords shine at Daytona. Watching Earnhardt be the only Chevy driver able to really contend just goes to show how damn good he really was.

Ford's also shine at Talladega that year also Mark Martin dominated the diehard Talladega race in 2000 but Jeff Gordon won the race.

Seemed like the Chevy drivers weren’t thrilled about the spoiler design on the Monte Carlo / too much resistance & downforce competing against the Ford body & spoiler. Jeff referenced it in a post race interview after the 400.

Yes!! I grew up watching NASCAR on CBS in the 80s. They used to broadcast the Daytona 500, the Michigan 400 & the fall Talladega race. Combine those races with the Firecracker 400 shown on Wide World of Sports, and I used to think the good ole boys ran just 4 races a year! 🤷🏻♂️

I really wish CBS and CBS Sports Network were calling races starting at Daytona with Speed Weeks and continuing through Sonoma, and then from there, NBC and NBC Sports Network called every race from the second Daytona race (Coke Zero 400) through Homestead. Better yet, I wish every network that has called races the last 35-40 years (CBS, The Nashville Network--though now it's called Spike TV--ESPN, ABC, NBC/NBC Sports Network, TBS, TNT, Fox/FS1, and FX) still had broadcast rights for at least a couple of races every season.
