Joplin High School used part of this mall after their building was destroyed by the Joplin tornado in 2011. I believe they only had juniors and seniors attending classes here. They were there until their new building opened in fall of 2014. I remember they had tons of storm shelters lined up outside the mall for students. I don’t think the storm shelters are still there.

I grew up going to Northpark and was just there over the weekend. Since your visit there's 3 or 4 spots that have been occupied but now Rue 21 announced they are closing all stores so we're losing them. I like to think there's hope for the mall especially since it's the only mall in the area but I do believe they need to start with better management. It's just been within the last 5 years or so that it's got this bad. Up to 2020 we had all anchors full but the Sears and Macy's closed and that hurt a lot.

I first went to this mall as a teen in 2014, I ain't been back since spring of 2016. I remember how popping this place used to be. It's sad to see how empty it is. I have so many memories here. From the food courts, holiday shopping, running around with my brothers, etc... life really went by like a movie, I sure miss them days

You should've seen it in the late 90s, early 2000s. Heck, I stopped going there around 2014 because it was no longer the mall I remember!

I grew up in this mall, went with my parents in the 80s to Montgomery Ward, Venture, Famous Bar and to the movie theater. Walked around in the 90s and hit all of the music stores, book stores and of course clothing stores, in the early 2000s shopping at Sears was my wife and I's favorite thing to do here, also shopped for kids school clothes, it was about 2010 when things first started to shut down and now its just complete sadness.

Why is this mall so tiny? I find it odd that Branson is smaller than Joplin and they have 2 main shopping centers.
@Man-MadeArchaeology5 ай бұрын
Not sure! 🤔 it was definitely one of the smallest malls we’ve visited in the Midwest

At least it's not overbuilt like some small town malls in the northeast are.

70s style shopping mall USA was brown, beige, white... colours... Nothing too flashy and hard pigments of color.. It looked all like TV series Battle Satr galactica... all indoors under 1 big roof with escalators and lifts... 70s was nice that it was a promising era... 80s was sobering it would not turn out that way.. 90s was exclusive society 2000 was war economy... 2010 was oblivian era.. 2020... well 3 years underway... not really clear what this decade will hold... (ww3...????!!!).
