This 11,000+ word script is my longest video script to date and this video spent a long time in development hell. It was originally going to be episode 41, but ended up as episode 61, which might put things into perspective. It took countless hours of research, writing and editing to put together so hopefully you enjoyed it! Only 4 episodes left. @@ChrissieBear This is not entirely true also. I quote from the New Vegas mod on Nexus Mods "Essential DLC Enhancements Merged": "Ghost People Perception Fix: In the vanilla game, Ghost People have a Perception of 0, and there was a misconception for a long time that the game interpreted this as an overflow and gave them virtually infinite Perception, which made it almost impossible to sneak past them. However, it is now known that the game engine interprets a Perception of zero as 1, and that the real reason why Ghost People are hard to sneak by is due to their high level (this has been proven by xNVSE devs decoding the relevant parts of the engine). There was an old fix that changed the Perception of all Ghost People to 1 to 'fix' this bug, and it is included here for completeness, and as the Ghost People are already edited due to the fix below, so it makes no difference if this change is made too. Plus, it satisfies those that still have the placebo effect regarding this." It also depended on the Ghost People's level. The higher the level of an enemy, the stronger they are at detecting your presence. "Ghost People Sneak Detection Fix: Reduces the level of Ghost People to fix a notorious bug where they can very easily detect the player, even when he is concealed and at a distance. As a side effect, this also reduces the XP received from killing them, which is an extra bonus as the high rates of XP from the DLCs is unbalanced anyway. The level changes are: - Tier 0: Level 5 -> Level 3 - Tier 1: Level 15 -> Level 5 - Tier 2: Level 25 -> Level 10 - Tier 3: Level 35 -> Level 15 - Tier 4: Level 45 -> Level 20 - Tier 5: Level 50 -> Level 25"

Avellone talks about how Dead Money was supposed to be horror-themed, but I think all the DLCs had plenty of horror elements; Dead Money is a zombie-esque survival horror, Honest Hearts feels like old stories of being stranded in a foreign place and being forced to survive and find your way back to civilization, Old World Blues is both campy 50's sci-fi and genuine body horror, and Lonesome Road is like an apocalypse disaster within an apocalypse. They're all expertly written and to me are genuinely creepy.

We constantly hear “Let me mark it in your Pipboy” or whatever but this is the one time how the Pipboy functions in-universe (that I can think of) is mentioned outside of throw-away Preston Garvey comments. But it also would’ve raised other questions “Who writes in the objectives? Who’s been updating the topographic map of the post-WW3 US? Who’s operating the GPS satellites to track current Pipboy locations?” Probably better off never trying to define exactly how it works in-game as it’s just a player interface but since it’s a staple of the series it’s cool to hear it mentioned more.

Honestly, Dead Money definitely has one of my favorite stories in the game and I have always found it's challenge rewarding for that reason. It's always my penultimate quest for that reason too. In general I can flip whether I do Honest Hearts or Old World Blues first, even though HH is really meant to be first. Dead Money though? It's not just the difficulty but, honestly, also that it just feels at home as the penultimate quest before Lonesome Road. A last great challenge, a gauntlet to test your resolve, and a story to tie off the last few side-plot threads before Lonesome Road wraps up the present and The Battle of Hoover Dam puts a bow on it. A part of me will always feel like New Vegas would be just a bit less without it and I'll always appreciate it's inclusion. Honestly, talking about all this kind of makes me want to play it again.

By the time i left the Vault & made it to that gap of no radiation in the cave closest to the Vault Entrance, i had not only used all my Rad Away, bit had also found myself to be at the rad cap... The part about arrow heart man is probably the most interesting to me, as it fills out a bit more of Elijahs previous attempt that got him trapped in the casino, and how it all went wrong afterwords. I feel like we also see some of his graffiti in other DLCs, but that might just be reused assets or me making things up.

I *love* that you delved into the depth of the graffiti on the walls around the Villa. Who would have thought one of the simplest pieces of world aesthetic not only tells a story, but has a story behind it. My favorite piece of the graffiti is when finding a small cache of supplies, you see a simple message scrawled on the wall; "If you find this, I'm so sorry you're here."

It still angers me to no end that Christine couldn't come back to the Mojave as a companion, partly because she's voice by Laura-freaking-Bailey and partly because it would have been nice for Veronica and Christine to finally reunite after Christine's obsession with killing Elijah was over. They both deserved that much and I think her ending where she literally just sits in the Sierra Madre forever is complete BS. There's a lot of wasted potential in FNV as a whole, but that one legit took the cake.

This has been such a cool and insightful series. When it's done in a few episodes, do you think you could do a video talking about how you did your research and your thought process when writing/recording? One thing I'm really curious about is how much you got your hands wet digging around in the G.E.C.K. yourself versus how much you gathered information from modders and data miners.

I’m always kind of curious how the ghosts would work with FO4’s ghoul system where you could have a functioning and aggressive entity while losing limbs since the ghosts in NV lose almost every bit of scare that they have when you realize just targeting one limb kills them pretty quickly (especially since all the DLC weapons do some form of extra limb damage). Would definitely add more to the immortal aspect that the ghosts have lore wise, and maybe making their head unbreakable to add even more scare to them since the normal tactics won’t work. Making them these immortal things that you can only delimb really adds to that idea you need to hack and slash them completely to stop them.

The Duck and Cover skillbook under the bed in Dean's room is actually not inaccessible, just you would never know it's there without meta knowledge. Unfortunately due to some poorly designed hitboxes, this ends up being much harder than it should be, but it is definitely possible to do so.

The skill book is completely out of sight under the bed. The only way to even see it is by throwing grenades, which nobody would think to do if they didn't have meta knowledge that it was there. I spent about 20 minutes throwing frag grenades towards the bed at all angles, and the book never came out. It seemed to be held in by an invisible wall. The casino is probably somewhere in the Dead Mountain range in California. The Colorado river, that is mentioned my Elijah in the intro, connects from Hoover Dam and travels south to border Nevada and California. Dead mountains is situated about 10 km from the River. Far enough from even Searchlight and Nelson; even further from Big MT (presumed Bald Mountain IRL) to be under any substantial fallout from the nukes. Still close enough for dealings between the two parties to occur. And Dead mountains is a pretty spot on name.
