I worked there as a security officer and manager in the mid 1990s. It was still called the White House Motel. The apartment on the second floor of the main building is where the owner's son resided. I've been up in that attic in the summer and you're right, it is hot as Hell in there. There used to be a clock tower above the attic. The main lobby was impressive before they ripped it out and turned it into a nightclub. The front desk was huge and there was a fireplace in the lobby too. It's a shame someone couldn't renovate it and make a decent business out of it. In the 60s and 70s, the motel was usually occupied by people travelling to Maryland to gamble. There were slot machines in the bar and lobby, but that was before I worked there. In the 70s, race fans would stay there to attend the car races at Budd's Creek raceway.

My father owned this motel in the early 70'S and it was a thriving business. He built the Bar with the padding, served dinners with great food . The bar was a busy place then, lots of Washington DC came to visit at times. The economy killed this motel. We had a pool then as well.It is a shame to see it this way. I do understand and was notified today the motel is being renovated as close to the 50"s as they can get it. Today is 8/25/2018, we can wait and see!

I remember when the creators of Homestar Runner were explaining why they'd never make a TV version. The TV station funds you & you make money, but they take away all of your creative control & censor stuff. I think Jhonen Vasquez said that about working for Nickelodeon too.
@nola14397 жыл бұрын
MrAkihiros well technically what he's doing is illegal. They don't enforce it, but abandoned places are still owned by people. The deed for the land doesn't just expire when the business goes down. So this is absolutely considered trespassing. Even if it's been foreclosed, the government still owns it. They won't enforce it on KZfaq and such social media sites, but if you were to make a commercialized TV show with sponsors, chances are you couldn't get away with doing illegal things as the premise of the show, even if they're harmless unenforced things.
@thelittlepinkdino2347 жыл бұрын

I work at a small motel. It was built in the 40's. We still use metal keys. Due to the design of the mote (every single room is different and has all custom dimensions) we can't do cards. Fortunately in the year and a half since the current owners took over, no customer has ever lost a key.
@vasteve814 жыл бұрын
I’ve never seen a property that can’t have key cards. The real reason is usually cost.

You have GOT to get a team to go with you to places like this. It worries me to see things like this, especially the child asylum thingy. There is proof that someone (Or maybe even multiple people) were following you and watching you the whole time. Please, just be safe about this. We really care about your safety, and a line is crossed when you making videos for us puts you/your life in danger. Take care :)

@X G that's so true. I care, but I'm not rich. If we taxed the top 10% properly, we could easily provide for the bottom 50%, in addition to whatever they could provide for themselves. That's why I'm Socialist. It's not a dirty word kids, it just means not letting the rich and powerful take everything. People can still get rich, plenty rich, but not to such an immoral degree that 60 million others have to do without some form of basic needs. It's sad that we have a sick political party (Republicans) that will fight to the death to defend this system (unregulated predatory capitalism).

I'm really surprised that no one else has ever made the connection of the chandelier in the main section of the motel, and the box of crystal bobbles in the attic (that go with it). Worth quite a bit of money if it were cleaned and put back together (which isn't difficult). Proof that thieves and vandals are stupid.

Considering legal concealed carry is pretty much nonexistant in MD, and the police would immediately assume he's carrying for offensive purposes rather than defensive on the offchance he got caught, pepper spray is generally a smarter choice in this type of urbex situation. I'm almost positive he carries pepper spray (or something similar) for those reasons.

I've driven by this motel. The "Shine Inn" is still there and apparently has been kept up (at least on the outside). I've seen several cars parked there, so either it's back in business or they're working on it. I've discovered that may of these old motels have become contractor lodging for transient construction companies to house their employees while working on extended projects in the area.

There used to be a similar hotel outside of Marfa, TX. Allegely built in the 1940s and in business until 1966. The whole place looked like the people just up & left. Rooms were fully furnished and the sheets were still on the beds. There were even brochures in the lobby, still. Very eerie cause the place was along a very deserted stretch of highway 90 heading to Big Bend. The sand and dust seemed to act as a natural mumifier for all the old stuff. As far as I know the place was torn down as of 2002. It even had a sand filled pool in the courtyard.
