Nathan Orchard (10th Planet Seattle) is one of Eddie Bravo's top-ranked black belt competitors. According to Eddie, he is dangerous when it comes to both the leg lock game and particularly his bread and butter, the Rubber Guard. He has competed against the biggest names in the sport today and holds wins over; Masakazu Imanari, Baret Yoshida and AJ Agazarm to name a few.
With his insane flexibility and leg dexterity, Nathan catches many opponents with his Dead Orchard Armbar including the legendary Baret Yoshida who is a 2x No-Gi World Champion. The Dead Orchard is essentially a Pit Stop Triangle position where you trap a shoulder and isolate an arm for attacks such as Armbars, Americanas and Wrist Locks.
The 3 setups for the Dead Orchard:
1. The Pump
2. The Backdoor
3. The Gag Reflex

In my utmost humble opinion. “ it is the units that complete the whole” “ True martial skill is death disguised in elegance” And these proverbs could not ring any more true than the depictions in the video above. I am very new to the BJJ ground grappling game, but I’ve been training and teaching striking/ clinching arts for the past 20 years, and to behold the intricacies in concordance with complexity applied within simplicity, at such a high level, is nothing more than beautiful to watch, and also one may observe how similarities within the applicable arts transcends “ style” “ Many rivers from the same source flow” My sincere appreciations and regards for taking the time to breakdown and share these complexities of mastery with all of us. Fellow martial artist. Tom Framnes. Norway.

I ruptured my right quad years ago and that whole leg is tight despite daily stretching but its almost there. Full lotus easy w left leg and finally got to it w right but just a little tight still.

@@BJJTrickster Sure! His elbow, underarm or hand is posting on my knee before I can finish the triangle. I can never get them to post on my chest as in these clips. Also when I use the pump I pump his hand out so he can post. As shown around 04:28 he would simply use his left hand on my knee that is coming up, lower his head and pull out. Also at 01:59, see the space where his right leg comes up? There is where his elbow would be, blocking me. Im flexible enough to do all the rubber guard stuff so this annoys me.

@@schmolywar Using the gag reflex(punch choke) is a good option to get them to post on your chest. You should keep pumping from crackhead control until the arm is almost fully extended or at least have the elbow the centerline of your body, this way the hand or elbow cannot defend the triangle lock.

Bjj is bad ass and so is wrestling. 2. Very good martial arts imo bit realistically in this day without some sort of striking art you can't consider yourself a true badass. Rafael Lovato Jr is one bad son of a gun.

Thanks. I use the dead orchard quite a lot and there are two details on this video I was missing. One good techniques i learned from Nathan Orchard is to lossen your mission control slightly so the opponent feels they can pull out. As the go to pull back and out the dead orchard goes on and tightens.

Essentially a triangle with both arms in and trapping a shoulder to expose the arm bar.
