Dead Orchard is a submission by 10th Planet black belt Nathan Orchard. Orchard is one of the top ranked competitors under the system and has competed at EBI, Polaris, CJJ Worlds and Gracie Worlds. He is also the head coach at 10th Planet Seattle and holds wins over some of the biggest names in the sport today including Baret Yoshida and Masakazu Imanari.
Similar to the pit stop position, the Dead Orchard is a technique which can be used both for control and submission. Using a figure four with the legs, the Dead Orchard can be used to control your opponents posture, isolate the arms and begin attacking submissions such as Armbars, Wrist Locks, Kimura's and Americana's.

In the process of translating these 10P moves to Danaher's terminology - dead orchard is just a figure-4 top lock, correct?

I think they are very similar positions yes. The only difference is that Danaher's top lock is more of a traditional way to set up an armbar (only covering one shoulder with the leg) while dead orchard attempts to cover both the opponents shoulders using both legs. Hope this helps 🙏

The hips are way too tight and creates a very powerful lever that makes this armbar lethal from mount. Ima white belt and have control for kneebars and inside heel hooks even against other white belts. But I'd never actually try to do a dead orchard bc I don't have enough control to not pass the threshold or arrive too quickly or let go fast enough. I do use rubber gaurd for an armbar/bicep slicer but that's from Gogoplata control.
