@@The_real_Arovor studies have yet to prove otherwise! Also some examples of characters that are more than just a “political message” in Starfield are Barret, Commander Ikande and Hadrian! (Which got a very special spotlight in this video…) All of these characters, if they WERE meant to serve a political message, also go beyond just that. Barret not only is an charismatic companion but also a scientist that can help you a lot on your journey when exploring new planets. Commander Ikande is an amazing leader for the UC Navy. He also is one of the main characters in an incredibly interesting plot point, but also shows there’s more to him than you’d think when he does something morally questionable. Hadrian is very interesting as they’re involved in helping humanity survive a possible outbreak. On top of that, they have a string of connections to other stories within the game that help make Starfield feel more like a living universe! It’s just baffling to me that they’d choose to hate on the game because it has a woman or a black man that’s relevant to the plot, but ignore the beauty of the game.

Context on the latter, there's a series of games set during WWI and WWII that included female pilots, not the majority by any means but "historical accuracy" bullshit artists crapped on and on about it and modded the games to remove them. The sad thing is, there were female combat pilots. I'd wager if I ventured into those Steam forums again I'd find they also removed the African American pilots in the same or another mod.

Yeah there have been a few mods for RPGs recently that either make a character entirely white or just alter characteristics of them to be more 'white'. Wyll from BG3 has had one recently and in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous they made the succubus character 'whiter' by reducing the size of her lips, which is funny for a whole different reason, but she's white anyway!
