World's Most Dangerous Roads: Deadliest Journeys in Vietnam in 2015
Deadliest Roads - Congo: • Video
We are in the Quan Hoa mountains in the Northwest of Vietnam. It is one of the poorest and most isolated regions in the country. Here, most of the inhabitants live on less than a dollar a day. However, this province possesses an inexhaustible treasure: bamboo. Or as the Vietnamese refer to it “green gold”. Some of this bamboo is transported on rafts… Makeshift crafts, assembled in just a few hours, are sent down the twists and turns of the tumultuous river Luong.
This region is also the only region in the country where the roads are not asphalted. During the rainy season, which lasts around three months, parts of the region’s commerce is paralysed. Even 4x4s and trucks can’t handle it… The only engine capable of manoeuvring the roads is Van Ly’s “Tuk Tuk”.

We’re in Vietnam 🇻🇳 today. A beautiful, majestic place. But if you're not used to it, there are some hurdles... climate: sticky sweaty hot all the time. Day and night. Rainfall: a lot especially during monsoon Roads: Vietnam is mostly hilly, mountainous geologically so in some regions, the term 'road' is a bit of a stretch. A special mention to the film crew responsible for this amazing documentary ( you rock) and of course respect and admiration to the people who live and work in such extreme surroundings all their lives: you are awesome, resilient, kind, welcoming. We'll remember you always. Enjoy!

It gets quite cold in winter in northern Vietnam, more so in the highlands. Even snow. In southern Vietnam, the Central Highlands where Dalat is, this region stays cool virtually year round. There are highlands in central Vietnam as well where Ba Na Hills is located. Coastal cities such as Danang and NhaTrang is quite comfortable and breezy.

Vietnamese and Filipino people are some of the hardest workers I have met. I worked for a roofing company with a 50 year old Vietnamese man and a 45 year old Filipino we would normally work 8 hours a day and the Filipino and the Vietnamese men always wanted to work 12 to 14 hours, they said 8 hours is just a warm up for them, so our boss allowed them to stay longer and they would sometimes work for 16 hours or until police came and told them to stop working because people were complaining that there is someone working on the roof at 10 or 11pm. The Vietnamese man saved up to $100,000 dollars a year which just blew our mind, all he would eat is boiled eggs, bread and some vegetables, but we would sometimes buy him some good lunch and he would chase us around with money to pay us back but we never took money from him. After working for 3 and half years he went back to Vietnam with almost $300,000 dollars in savings. He sent us pictures of the amazing house he built and the brand new car he bought in Vietnam, he sent his children to good schools and he keeps inviting us to Vietnam and I might just take him up on that offer after this covid-19 craziness is over.

Vietnamese people are the most hardworking and caring people I have met in my adventures so far. I stayed a few months between various different cities including Hanoi, Da Lat, Da Nang, Saigon, Vinh Long.. every place I visited was a bit different than the last but they all shared those same principles. I will gladly return to Vietnam when I can. There is so much to see, do, and learn if you are willing to take risks.

And they were happy doing it. “CULTURES” Until you ignorant people understand cultures, you shouldn’t be negatively commenting on educational videos. In reality, the majority of the world lives a harsh life. We “The Privileged ones”, should be positive that we do have an easier way and respect the other ways. And plz, leave politics out of this.

"different cultures". There's no such thing as race. It's a made up term by racists. There is no genetic code for a race. Certain alleles are turned on or off. Every human have these types of "racially defining" alleles. If it were possible, you could turn these alleles on/off to make a normally white person look completely subsaharan African in utero.

Have been to Vietnam several times, it’s an amazing country with friendly people, great food with lots of things to do and places to see. It’s cheap with a tropical climate and getting around is a breeze. The pandemic has hit the region hard and I would strongly encourage the people watching this to make this magical country your next destination. They are heavily dependent on tourism and you would be contributing to the recovery of their economy and have a great time in the process. I have traveled the world and this is one of my top five destinations…you won’t regret the experience I guarantee it. Safe travels everyone ✈️

@SFD who taught you that? Our ancesters used to live in Southern China then moved to the current land. Though there are total of 1000 years enslaved by the ancient Chinese but we don't used the same language, the old language is figurative and look similar because we were forced to learn Chinese in that time but we improve another language based on it, modern Vietnamese using latin letters. However, there are some ethnic minorities imigrated from China years ago. The people selling bamboo in this video is from H'mong (Meo) ethnic group and Hoa ethnic group in Ho Chi Minh city is originally from China.

Riding through Vietnam at the beginning of 2020 was the best time of my life. I remember seeing those bamboo bongs a bunch and wanted to try it. One day I eventually saw a bunch of guys sitting around and I asked if I could hit it and they welcomed me to go for it. For some reason I thought it was weed because I was too far to smell it when I saw it originally. I took a big rip and it just killed me when the eventual tobacco hit. We all started laughing, but my throat was dying there for a good minute. They're all so nice and welcoming.

For South and SE Asia, bamboo is the gold. It is used in everything, from your home to making things for the market. Without bamboo 80*/* of the people would not be able to survive. Most importantly, bamboo is eco friendly and grows fast. It can be harvested every 3 years. Compare that with timber which takes a minimum of 25-30 years. So as I said, bamboo is the gold mine for us

Nope its nothing to significant. These type of vehicles exist in every poor 3rd world country. These engines r cheap and low rpm engines r hard to breakdown & the torque with heavy reduction gear is enough for an offroad vehicle.

That homemade truck reminds me of an army light transport truck used during the war known as a "Mule". An ingenious little micro truck that could operate in the bush hauling everything from food to guns and rocket launchers. I really admire the ingenuity of people like that Vietnamese tuktuk operator. He built it in his shed and now he uses it to feed his family. We Americans are so spoiled. We take things like cars and roads for granted.

Great design too. Looks like it's really an older frame with a generator engine rigged to it. I'm surprise they don't design and sell something like that over there.

The same kind of ingenuity existed in the US once, which led to refined cars and also roads. A lot of work for generations later to be spoiled.

Perhaps many do, but who are you to use the phrase "We Americans"? That's just a dumb generalization. Speak only for yourself and the people you know. You have no idea what people you've not met value and appreciate.

I'm a road worker. Roads don't build themselves. People build roads. People also build cars. In the USA, we have a saying, work smart, not hard. The work gets done faster and more efficiently. For all the effort and danger, surprisingly little work is being done. Find a better way to do things...

I visited Vietnam for the first time back in 2007. We were driving to my grandmas home in Nha Trang. Our taxi driver was aggressive driver and hit a guy in a bike. That guy flew a few feet, got back onto his bike and biked away. I never seen anything like it. He would be rich by now if that happened in the United States. I still think about him til this day
