Anselm filmed the trip by himself. His little compact camera became his companion, he kept setting it up to drive past it. To create special shots, he had to get creative and inventive. In addition to his tripod, trees, trucks and donkey carts were his helpers. Occasionally he also held the camera in hand to people on the street who enjoyed it as well. He charged the batteries with a USB charger which was fed by the hub dynamo. The documentary "Elsewhere. Alone in Africa" was made from the recordings and has been shown in over 300 German cinemas since December 13, 2018. Originally, to make a movie was never his plan.

This young man deserves an award for this documentary!!! I grew up in Zimbabwe and now live in Canada... I am scared to return... but his really brought another perspective on Africa... just like I remember it... the people have next to nothing but they still enjoy life more than people in north America! Amazing story!!

'Best moment for me was in the end of the documentary when the nice woman said, "you are welcome here", "you can feel free". The greatest hospitality you often find with poor people. Their wealth lies in their compassion and big heart. What a nice woman. I bow for her.

"I'm no longer lonely, I'm simply alone..." I completely understood this feeling. I solo travel once a year for 2 to 3 weeks for 10 years, it's how I spend my vacation. Life is too short to wait for someone to joint my journey. This documentary was published here on October 1 2021. I just crossed the Sea of Aqaba on a night ferry full of economic immigrants from Neweiba Egypt to Aqaba Jordan, part of my 35 days journey in Egypt.

Most people show the usual pictóric scenes, but for me the best moments were when you were faced with lonesomeness, fatigue, fear... That struggle was tear provoking!

I met this guy on school trip in western Uganda at HOT SPRINGS Fort Portal , Queen Elizabeth national park area. We were the first group to recognize his flag in Africa. He told us about his new wedded wife and his Ethiopian visa. Wow i cant believe he actually made it all the way.

I've never seen anyone capture Africa in this way, I'm talking about the ppl are so beautiful and happy, not worrying about material things just really happy with life.

As a bikepacker myself (though only having ridden in Europe) I truly admire Anzelm's cycling effort and filming skill. This documentary you just can't have enough of. Also, l can't help a comparison with Polnand's Kazimierz Nowak, who cycled Africa north to south and back again between 1931 - 36.

one of the coolest documentaries i have ever seen... what a brave and motivated young man he is.. that is quite a journey he set out on .. each day bringing unseen new challenges and the always changing and sometimes quite dangerous situations he faced... and the time he spent alone pushing forward into the many vast and unknown places that were constantly presenting him with a kaleidoscope of changing (sometimes very dangerous) road conditions and climate changes.. just the everyday challenges he faced with each new and different environments would have sent most people over the edge and they would have quit and went home crying.. this mans epic journey is nothing short of remarkable in that he had only himself to look to many of times and find the inner strength and mindset needed to continue on and complete his goal .. it was a journey of many different challenges... it was mind blowing at times to witness the generosity of the people he came into contact with .. and the kindness they showed him is something that seems kind of rare anymore... he was a stranger to them and they always gave him some help if needed.. and maybe it was only a wave and or smile .. but those things are the ones that could keep one going at times.. all the different people he met along the way and the times they spent together although short are things and memories a person will carry with them and remember forever.. the kids were so cool... and how interested they were of him.. always smiling and laughing.. also i thought what a great job was done with and how this was filmed -edited and presented... just all around great film-work.

I went on a solo trip to Rwanda and Uganda to see the mountain gorillas in 2018 and on a trip to kibuya on Lake kivu I met a south African man who was riding from South Africa to Morocco I thought at the time how incredible his journey was. Hats off to the guy I met and the guy on the video Amazing times!!

I got hooked couldn't stop watching till the end. This is _unglaublich,_ an epic adventure. In an arab country, especially Egypt, you never ever film the police, or members of the military forces or the customs, never film a govt building unless you were given explicit permission to do so. It is sad that you learned it the -hard- egyptian way, I hope you forgot the incident and enjoyed the rest of your epic journey.

When you played Octopizzo I knew you were in East Africa.I’m Kenyan and you’ve captured Africa in its true form.I live in Texas and you’ve inspired me to take the same trip,not in a bicycle though,that’s balls!

I am a cyclist, yes at 75 I still enjoy to cycle 30kms two or three times a week, I understand what it takes to maintain your bicycle gearing, with all the desert and general African dust you must have been very diligent in checking and overhauling your gears, truly amazed at how you managed to pick yourself up and keep going with your sicknesses.

Later on we moved up from Dar es Salaam to Enttebbe, it was cooler, being situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, it used to rain every afternoon, thank you for bringing back these memories for me, the boys home made toys are just as I remember, some things have not changed at all.

Africa is full of humble and friendly people. True beauty. That neatly dressed guy on his bike on the dirt road 21:37 in Zambia waiting for vehicles to pass so that dust can settle 😂😂 he must be a teacher or pastor in the village. I can totally relate to that scenario in Kenyan rural areas.

This was a great long documentary. Anselm had guts to ride in this hot dangerous part of the world but he met lots of friendly people along the way. The wildlife, heat, dust and getting sick was what made it so dangerous. I wonder if he documented his journey through Australia. That would be a good documentary as well. Thumbs up for you Anselm.

As an experienced biker i can say that was a hard ride. Without the weight of all that baggage a "roadbike" can go 40+ kph. Your probably averaging 10-15 kph. So a ten hour day covers only 100- 150 kilometers, excluding pitstops like getting sick with malaria & typhoid . And you had to travel more than 6,500 kilometers.

Wow. This is a different level of bikepacking documentary. Incredibly emotional just watching you lay out your experience for all to see.

Congratulations on your amazing adventure! I realize it was several years ago now, but it's a glorious documentary and melding of culture, beauty, understanding and peace. I am a biker as well, but my adventures are more localized and I ride a Brompton folding bike, but your unbridled spirit of adventure is contagious. I have 2-sons, ages 37 and 39, and if they ever did something like this, I would, at once, be both worried and extremely proud of them-as I am sure your father is. This is the best biking filming I have ever watched. I feel privileged to have come across it...thank you!
