Not really, first, the US would not go help folks of Taiwan island, ROC is a country which the US not even officially recognizing as a sovereign nation as doing nearly everybody else too, so when the US was not keen to go fight for Ukraine, you can take your bet, how would be US willing to fight for ROC... In any case, an amphibious invasion is extremely difficult to perform especially against Taiwan with a limited time window per year and beaches where it can be performed, that's why Nazis gave up on invading the UK and tried to force it into submission instead, which is sort of what China was trying by soft power and economic pressure instead of using bombs and torpedoes. The chance that China invades Taiwan is rather slim unless China's leadership suffers brain damage on a large scale, as are the chances for successful invasion without turning the whole country into a ruble to force the population into submission as these nations differ quite a lot nowadays and ROC would give up only in case of pure desperation, which limited highly trained and well-equipped force that would be suitable to perform Chinese invasion likely did not produce. Then you must consider what would China win even if victorious when considering international backlash, if China overtakes Taiwan it will be more likely by non-military means or without much of fight as achieved Russians with Crimea...

First: America won't go full out war mode if Taiwan is invaded, it isn't that important. Second: China won't invade Taiwan cause it doesn't need to, it's a waiting game. Third: polls from Taiwan and Mainland China indicate people in both states are content with the way things are currently. The silent majority in Taiwan doesn't want to become an independent country, the same with China where people aren't in a hurry to re-incorporate Taiwan into China. Fourth: The only reason China is holding exercises near Taiwan is cause America sent their navy sailing between Taiwan and China, it was China's reaction to what the Americans did, not an actual signal that China is going to invade.
