In the last few years, many have died from heat related issues. This year has had an extraordinary death toll. Saudi Arabia is under pressure to make the Hajj safe. Saudi Arabia continues to take efforts to make it safer for those that can afford to pay for the proper visa. This is a part of the planet that has been warming faster than many other parts.

Sounds like the government needs to have more strictly enforced registering procedures. I would find it strange if Christian pilgrim sites such as Lourdes or Medjugorje required pilgrims to have a permit (?) to enter. Each site has at least hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, many seeking healing or other miracles. So perhaps those intentions wouldn't make permitting necessary.

Yes, 1300 people are a lot but if you look at the numbers, it’s less than one percent of 1.8M people. It’s about .07%-.08% of the total pilgrims, and maybe most of those didn’t go through official channels to get there. There’s not much SA can do with that, except to let pilgrims pass for free, no matter where they’re from.

Saudi Arabia should just expose the fairy tale and say there is no need to do Hajj. If they simply remove the 5th pillar and call a spade a spade, then no worries. But will they do it? Reason of death , most of piigrims are old above 60, so they are not in best of their health , other reason over zealots pilgrims who walk 8 to 10 hours a day, and in pilgrimage you have to walk a lot , and you are not prepared you may end up dead.

Only a small percent actually die from heat. 83% of people who died this year were illegally there. If you went there properly, then you will be in the AC for most of the time.
