Thanks for posting! I'm nearly an hour into this flick and have NO IDEA what the Hell is going on but thoroughly engaged and entertained... That's a film worth watching! Seeing Haley Mills in a film like this after all her squeeky clean Disney roles is a hoot as well.

Jason Patten Considering that Haley and I are about the same age I can say that "squeeky clean" sounds rather delightful in her case. I thought she was hot way back when and still do!

Wouldn't it be great if there was a 70's film channel on Sky/Virgin which only played classic or rarely seen 70's films all the time? I know I would watch it.

John Pearce I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and here we used to have a TV channel like the one you describe! It was called "Retro". I loved it! (It was a unit of Time Warner, owned by Turner Broadcasting). Unfortunately, it no longer exists... It lasted for a few years, from 2003 until 2009. I really miss it, since I love those old films and series... I used to watch (rewatch) them with my son, when he was little, it was great to be able to show him part of my childhood. Well, at least we enjoyed it while it lasted! :-/

+Amfonyx Just mentioning that there is a twist kind of gives the twist away, It would be best if you deleted your own comment because I read it before watching the film and given how few characters there are it becomes almost immediately apparent what the twist is going to be, however if I hadn't known that there was a twist I doubt I would have suspected. Great upload btw, wasn't aware of this film, very much appreciate you posting it.

+Robert Watts Er, no I mentioned twists, not 'a twist' - that is entirely your own reading of it. Numerous twists are commonplace in thrillers of this type. The alternative to my comment would be leaving the reveals in, or deleting many comments without apparent reason. Neither of these is acceptable.

Outstanding movie! Certainly not what I expected. Its a shame she didn't star in more movies. Difficult subject because unfortunately the sub plot hits to close to home for so many, well played by her. The musical effects created such incredible suspense. An interesting assortment of characters indeed filling out this tragic stage. Thank You for making this possible to see. I know I saw Hayley Mills in a movie back in the early '70's before this one where she wore her hair long. It was kind of like she vanished, maybe raising a family became her main priority?

Like supersimon22 I also saw this on ITV in 1984:I'm very sure of the year because my 'A' levels were approaching. The climactic twist then caught me completely by surprise. There's always some fascination in watching a thriller again after you've discovered the final twist, because you find yourself seeing some details in a different light. So I'm very grateful for the opportunity to see the film a second time. And my parents had a black-and white set,so this is the first time I've see it in colour!

This movie kicks ass! I love Hayley Mills--she's one of my favorite all-time actresses. I have such admiration for her talent, as well as her bravery for doing daring and edgy things in her career (nudity, and risqué subject matter and such) after her childhood fame. I don't know, it may have hurt her career ultimately--it shouldn't have, though--but I have great admiration for her for doing the things she wanted to do as an actress, and shedding the former innocent image. She deserved to continue having a relevant career, but sadly that didn't happen.

It's my pleasure, John. I agree with you that the film changes character when watched again. To me, a second viewing revealed a kind of 'malign fate' hanging over every scene of the film. In that respect it's also a very subtle horror film, as well as a great thriller.

I remember catching the last three quarters of this film many decades ago. I could never remember the name of it, and was convinced that it had been made in the mid-sixties. About a year ago, I had a bit of a Hayleyfest, watched a few of her sixties movies, yet couldn't understand why I couldn't find this one. For some reason I had thought Hywel Bennett had been in this one aswell as 'A Kind Of Loving.' The outcome is less of a surprise this time around, but it still stands up as excellent!

Great stuff! - thanks for uploading this Amfonyx - saw this once in my young teens many moons ago, not even sure it's been on TV since, much less on DVD. I remember (most of the) end, but still watched - has always stuck in my mind - a bit of a departure for both actors I suppose. Glad to have happened across it.

Thanks for uploading. Saw this on ITV in 1984 (I think). The film has a lot of good ideas and some moments of suspense. Not sure it quite all hangs together terribly well, but the 2 leads do a nice job of keeping the interest level up. The only thing about the twist is it relies on completely witholding key info from the audience rather than providing clues which may or may not be red herrings

A good movie in the sense that it consisted about relatively little elements. With only few characters it kept the tension throughout the film which implies that Director has understood the meaning of the word 'thrill'. Besides 'tension', also 'intensity' is required as an important element.
