Thank you for posting this movie. I had never heard of it but enjoyed it tremendously. It is very different from the usual blood / kill / horror fodder. I liked it! But then again I have always liked some quite obscure movies.

A good portrayal of Heathcliff. However the movie does not go as far as the 2nd generation. Instead Heathcliff is murdered shortly after Cathy's death here. Timothy would be too young in 1970 to play the older Heathcliff. However if he came back in 1980s to play Heathcliff in the full story version after playing Rochester, he could have played both the young and older Rochester really well.

I'm interested to know - does anybody recognize any of the performers besides Ted and Margaret in this video, and Vanessa in the other one? Are these all the real Minstrels? I don't even know how many there were.

Yes, the faces of the singers are familiar as I've seen them in the programmes that were published to be sold at the George Mitchell / B&W Minstrel stage shows. A bit of work on these would likely provide names for all the singers here. Although there were multiple casts to cover all the seaside stage shows in the UK no more than a dozen members of the troupe went over to Holland to make these shows and I think these were picked from the cast that made the UK television shows for the BBC.

@@Amfonyx Very interesting, thank you! These videos are really surreal - and not only because they put faces to the voices. The first one, especially, creates the illusion that you've stumbled on a home movie of the old gang goofing around off the clock, as it were, even though it's a well polished dance routine and a very familiar recording. It feels like a time capsule, even though it wasn't intended as one.

I emailed Indicator - Powerhouse Films about possibly getting WHAT BECAME OF JACK AND JILL a proper blu ray release .. I would urge anyone interested to do the same .. I received a very nice response: "Many thanks for your e mail and heads up on “What Became of Jack and Jill”, I don’t remember ever seeing the film, but it does look right up our street. I’ve not seen it on any of the lists we receive from various producers etc, but we will keep an eye out for it now... Saw this movie in 1970 in the theatre. When Heathcliff walked into that room? You could hear the gasp from every woman there. And, i never, ever forgot the song. Its beauty played in my mind for 2 decades. Finally got a computer and was able to find it. Title: I Was Born In Love With You. Written be michel legrand.

@@Amfonyxwow! I didn't know that. Thx for the link. This scene kind of reminds me of the cult movie "Candy" with Swedish actress Ewan Aulin. That movie came out in 1968. And Ewa is still alive, she's 73. ❤ Of the two actresses, I prefer Ewa Aulin. You should do a review on that movie.

@@john_from_eastcoast. Cheers John. Vanessa actually auditioned for Candy and got as far as the top 3. Ewa was just about unbeatable competition though on a film like Candy. Ewa also auditioned for Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly, believe it or not, but VH won that round. On her day Vanessa could do feral like no-one else and I guess that's what they were looking for. Guess it was a sort of revenge too for her not getting Candy. Candy is a film that's hard to review as there's good bits in it and also some very self-indulgent bits. Ewa was the best thing about it but it appears she was very badly treated during filming, with all the pampering being reserved for the big-name actors who appeared in it. I think Ewa came down with a stomach ulcer not long afterwards, caused by the stress of filming Candy.

The late 1960s into the 1970s was certainly the epoch of the British suspense/horror genre populated by rude, nasty young characters; this one’s no exception. Straw Dogs,; Let Sleeping Corpses Lie; Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things….the list is endless. That doesn’t mean that these movies weren’t eminently watchable, but it wasn’t, all things being equal, humanity’s finest hour.

What kind of program do you use to enhance a movie resolution?

This is from a previous version of the same Topaz Video Enhance AI I used to produce the 'This, That and the Other' video. It's a movie trailer, so is naturally worse quality than the 'Some Girls Do' main feature, but it was sourced from a bluray. The 'This, That' video was sourced from a DVD, and the new version of Topaz VEAI (July 2023) is so capable the result actually turned out to be better quality than this. Please note I am not allied or connected with Topaz in any way, I just like to use it to enhance videos to the quality I prefer.

What is the source and format of the video you are wanting to improve, with the frame rate per second, picture dimensions etc? Are there any visual problems with the video - is it noisy, etc? Also what would you want it converting into - what format, dimensions, etc?

It would take a very long time to do a full 90 minute VHS movie. The above 20 minute video took 22 hours to produce, turning a full VHS movie to maybe DVD resolution will take twice as long as that, with no guarantee of a good end result. I have no experience upscaling VHS tapes but I suspect the end result may end up looking rather 'plasticky' than otherwise, especially if the tape is a dub from another tape. I would personally say DVD is the minimum quality source I would be happy to work with to get a good result.@@Canada2009s
