I saw the Dead many times during the "Brent years". On an off-night they were still pretty good, on a great night they were beyond description. This jam right here is the epitome of The Dead, there will never be another. Forever grateful I got to witness this band.

This was the best "Deal" I have ever heard or seen in person. God, they were amazing. I'm so happy I'm so old at 64 that I've been a deadhead for so many years. And it's nothing but good, and good Karma. And thanks to Robert Hunter for the lyrics which are really a cautionary poem that says don't just act based on the cards you think the other player has..
@MsSmitty94 жыл бұрын
Icon O'Clast Hunter and Garcia together again. God Bless them Both. Was lucky enough to see the Dead around this time in the Old Boston Gahden and a few times before and after. Was extremely lucky to have seen Robert Hunter in Boston as well. All by himself, one guitar and a mike strapped to his head. Sang everything from Box of Rain to Terrapin Station. Will never ever forget that one.

I first saw the Dead play in 1970- 50 years ago. I thought they were great then. Saw them at Rochester when the Jefferson Airplane came by- they were also playing in Rochester. Somehow got onto the end of the stage . Unfortunately as I grew older I stepped back from the Dead . Last time I saw them was in Boston back in late ‘70’ s. Watching this video I realize just how much I missed- especially when Brent became the keyboard man. I agree I never heard them play so damn good as they did in this and other videos from the late ‘80’s. Big Regret. Have a bumper sticker which reads “Make America Grateful Again”. If that could only be possible.

When you really understand the dynamics all the members are extrapolating into this 3D realm from their musical reservoir it’s mind blowing. Phil thumping away, Mickey ritzing on the cymbals, Bobby rippling into eternity, etc. Jerry is beyond the doors of perception and throwing us gifts from eternity with his guitar. WOW what a sizzling performance 🥵🤩🤪

IVE BEEN LISTENING TO A BUNCH OF PODCAST. I WASNT AWARE THAT THE LATE 80S EARLY 90S THEY PERFECTED LIGHTS AND MIDI TECH. I LISTEN TO THOSE SHOWS WAY MORE CLOSELY. JERRY WAS TALKING ABOUT DIGITAL ART AND DRAWING TABLETS IN 1990. I WISH I COULD SEE THE EARLY DEAD> SUCKS BEING BORN IN 1984.

There are times when it takes Jerry a little time to "come up to temperature" during a jam. Then there are times when he's on full boil when it starts. 3:56 is one of those times.

I think this performance might perfectly sum up the Grateful Dead. Starts out a little sloppy and settles into what is a serviceable performance of a classic. But Jerry wanted more and takes the song to its limits (while also pushing the band to their limits). The magic of this band was that any night, any song could yield a legendary performance for the ages. If you don't believe me, just look at the band's faces.

I underestimated Brent so much. 😔. I only started to see the Dead in 79 and saw them straight through 93. I always thought I missed out on the "good good" but looking back, Jesus god, Brent took us to church so many times ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and I am blessed to have experienced his phenomenal interplay with Jerry.

I can't stress this enough; "I WAS THERE!!! Final night at Alpine, where we "still had to stand out in the pouring rain." Luckily, I was 17th row, Jerry side in the covered pavilion. Yeah, one third of Downhill from Here was my show. Then I trucked up to Buffalo on the 4th of Uncle Sam Blues, July, to see 10,000 Maniacs (the band, not the twirlers by the exits). All I could say is the fellas opened. They had me at "Bertha."!

Puleez. This was the greatest brent show and the greatest jerry show of the brent show of the brent era. Jerry was in a boisterous mood. I know. I was partying with him before and after the show. The althea from this and deal are my faves of each. This deal scorches. That solo , even bobby looked at bill going wtf???!? Alpine was my fave midwest to see them. Never ever disappointed. This is exhibit A of what lsd infused cheese curds and 90 grade cocaine does to jerry.

No human being on the planet is going to ever bring the energy of these men into music into an audience that could be comprehensively understood of the Gen x age it just can't be done it won't be done only we will understand it you had to be there to understand the base behind Jerry Garcia's music behind stage in the corridors as we searched for the best acoustic sound off between structurally sounded buildings to give off the music that we were in search for I can never explain it and nobody will ever understand what I'm talking about

I watched Loser first, then it went right into Deal as I was putting the finishing touches on a 60-page article I was writing on the lessons I learned through the years from the Dead. It doesn't get any better than this. Loser: so sad and melancholy but ultimately defiant, and Deal takes us to the place all tne other commenters described - soaring into the stratosphere, in perfect sync. Nothing has been even close to the Dead in 75 years of rock 'n roll. And this was the final good era of a wise and healthy Garcia. Did you see the look on his face? He knew how tough he made it on himself. This was the golden era from '89-'92, and that's when it began to decline again ....by the time they got to Chicago in Summer '95, it was hard to watch in many ways. But damn, they give us the moon on this one -- I feel like I was reborn.
