This video really helped. I just moved to the country of my dreams for college and really didn't expect to feel homesick. I feel so guilty because my parents have spent so much money to send me abroad and my friends are so excited for me that it's hard to tell them that I'm not having as much fun as I thought I would. Thanks for the video, I hope things will get better over time!

What you said about finding out how strong you really are, struck a chord with me. I have just moved abroad for school, and to my surprise I've found out that, my intial confidence about how life will be great and interesting living and studying aboard has dissolved, as homesickness reared its ugly head. An advice to anyone trying to go abroad for studies: Unless life in your country is really bad, dont be naive and overconfident in your idea of life abroad whilst in your element. Chances are, reality and the ideas in your head are different. Prepare yourself well and move, and always stay positive no matter what!

Number six kind of hit home for me. It made me realize how much my parents probably went through when they first came to Canada. I couldn't imagine completely starting over in another country, but you are so right when you say that you'll see how strong you truly are. Very interesting video :)

Kristin Claxton Trust me they made a really big sacrifice. I am sure they took years to feel like they had their feet on solid gound. Now you can go hug, kiss them and say "thank you" . LOL mushy mushy. Yes we see how strong how weak and much more. You have the perfect teachers to start over in another country living in your house hun. Thanks for watching and leaving an awesome comment!

I agree with you 100%! When I first came to the US at 18 I was all by myself, so I can totally relate :) The experience of being away from home has made me stronger and more confident. Excellent video! I'm sure this video will help a lot of people in the future!!

maibeautych Thank you for your find words. How many years have you been in the usa? Being away definitely increases strength even if at first we might feel really weak. If this video helps people that would be a great accomplishment and would make me feel so happy

I've been here for a while about 10 years! Time flies!! I'm now all adjusted and settled in. I still do miss my friends from high school though :( But I have my family here now, so I'm def fortunate and grateful. My advice for people who move to a different country is not to forget to smile bc smile is the universal language! :)

Wow 10 years. Yes the time flies. I do not have family here. Well I have my huzzy and my daughter. Since my daughter it feels better. Appreciate your family because that is a big luxury when you live abroad and everything changes. Smiles yes they do wonders.

You have so many great tips and advice. Thank you for sharing and talking about it so nicely. I can't imagine how hard it is. I get home sick when I go on vacations! Which I know sounds so silly but it's true. So I really look up to you for being so strong and positive! I love your accent btw, so beautiful. Xoxo

Naturally Ann Its normal to feel like that even on vacation. Home is home. A hotel cannot replace it, nor a guest home no matter how homey it is. The sites, the beaches the new cultures are wonderful but deep down it makes us reflect on what matters I think and to the place we feel the safest maybe. I get it when I go on vacation too. I turn the keys open the door and I am like "aaaahhhhhhhhh" or even before when driving into town and seeing the same old stuff its kind of refreshing. I am happy that the tips and advice may actually help someone. I thought it was too long but all these nice comments such as yours are so reassuring. Thank you for your support. Stay blessed and gorgeous. xo

Naturally Shy do not let it. I guess coming from a big country like the usa it can seem far. I have lived alone before and it was never hard actually. Have you ever lived alone or away from your family ever?

This video really hit home for me. I am a Trinidadian also living in Europe (Switzerland). And I do get homesick often. I am fully integrated here, I work, have studied the language, but I still long for "home" sometimes so to speak. Thanks for making this video.

I do a lot of the things you have recommended in the video to be honest. I try to cook Trini food as often as I can. I play Trini music. I do have little knick knacks from back home as well. I also try to go home every Christmas (I sometimes visit twice a year). I have started looking online for Trini (or West Indian people in general) who reside here & I have found a couple of fellow Trinidadians! I don't get to see them very often, because they live in different Cantons, but we keep in touch with each other via email, WhatsApp, etc. Again, thank you for sharing! :-)

That is great. I Recently met a trini who is in Germany and we keep in contact with Whatspp too. If ever I take a trip to swiss I will let you know. Visiting home for Christmas is a luxury you real cherish I imagine. Happy for you. Hope we keep in touch. Thank you so much for your support! ♥ ♥ ♥

I like the idea of similarities thats a good idea! I always exercise when I'm feeling down and I think just keeping busy in general instead of dwelling on what you miss is a great way to combat being homesick! Cute hair btw! I'm doing a giveaway on my channel if you want to check it out!
