Great instruction! For being a professional "tough guy," Coch doesn't act like it. No machismo, no foul language. Just good, down to earth teaching.✌🏾

Thanks Sir, great training video. I head up my department's firearms training unit. Prior to conducting a pistol malfunction class, I watch this video. It's short and to the point.

Great training! I've always "created" double feeds by racking a 9mm dummy on top of a chambered casing (not a live bullet). The .40 dummy is clearly a much easier way to create a double feed.

Coch, I was taught by a different school to rotate the pistol the opposite way (i.e., clockwise) you're demonstrating here for the tap-rack. The other instructor's argument was that with the ejection port pointed downwards towards the ground, the brass would be sure to fall out of the gun. Have you every had a problem with brass not being ejected while doing tap-rack your way (i.e., rotating the pistol counter-clockwise)? His argument makes sense, but I trust your background and experience more. Thank you for your excellent instruction!
@TacticalHyve
@TacticalHyve 3 жыл бұрын
Coch may chime in himself, but we’ll add our two cents. If you want to ensure that the case ejects, you can do exactly what Coch shows but turn the gun a bit more counter clockwise so the ejection port points more toward the ground; however, have never had an issue doing what Coch shows.

I have trained multiple ways to perform immediate action with a pistol. The first time I seen Coch's roll to the side before I pinch and rack, I wasn't sure on it. But I have found I actually like it. It seems to have a smaller chance of the brass not getting back into the gun and also by "rolling" or "rotating" I am able to keep it in the workspace I want easier so I acquire my sights quicker once the gun is gassed back up and ready to go. Just my personal experience. Every millisecond counts. Thanks Coach, and thanks tactical hyve

Thanks Chief Coch! This video really helped. I had a double feed in my semi auto 40 cal last week at the range. I was shooting steel off-hand drill at about 15-20 feet, and I could see the slide flipping, then the jam. Did my lack of a solid grip contribute to the double feed? How can I do better off hand? Cheers, FT

THANK YOU This video was great - concise- informative. I have a XDE 9mm that has occasional 1. I removed the magazine and the chamber round falls out 2. When I manually rack the slide - the bullet will not eject QUESTION FOR SITUATION 1 (listed above) Why is this happening-? How can I fix this issue-? I want to EDC this firearm - but I donot have confidence in it. NOTE. - no issues at the range THANK YOU

Only thing I personally don`t like here is locking the slide back before stripping the magazine out for the double-feed. My preference instead is to strip the magazine out, even though that is a little tougher, then rack the slide a few times, then reload the magazine. Just personal preference.

I think we can safely file the whole "using a .40 dummy round to simulate a non-feed" thing that Coch says is "not perfect" under "If an idea is stupid but works, it's not a stupid idea". Improvise, adapt, and over-come, am I right?!

at 1:45, I thought click-no bang could mean squib load. If that were the case, wouldn't the remedial action potentially damage the gun if the bullet is still in the chamber?

great video. question: when you get the click because of the bad primer/strike, what is the point of the pushing the mag in?
@ATSaale
@ATSaale 11 ай бұрын
Unseated mag can cause the slide to close without feeding around in which case pulling the trigger again will cause the click. It's possible to insert a magazine but not fully seated drop the slide and it chambers around and then it pushes the mag down just enough where the next round will not be stripped and fed. In the Navy when we practiced reload drills with the Berettas are instructors would come by and try to pull the magazine out after we reloaded with the practice pistols to make sure everyone was seating their magazines properly.

Did you guys use .40 much in the teams. I really like .40 and most people think the FBI went to 9mm due to improved engineering but it was more of a cost cutting measure and a little bit for faster follow/ more rounds.
@tacticalhyvecadre1049
@tacticalhyvecadre1049 3 жыл бұрын
Everyone (US SOF/ LE) is going back to 9mm because the latest generation of duty ammo is performing better than .40. The government doesn’t care about saving money. .40 is still a great round for personal use. Thx for posting

Tap 'n rack will clear 99% of "click instead of a bang" situations, but if you got that 1% which is a squib, tap 'n rack will probably kill your gun and send you to the IR. That scares me a bit, especially knowing that it's really hard to catch that squib, 'cause when shooting fast with hearing protection not many shooters will feel the difference between.
