This is just my problem, and I found out the solution to just breeth it in, on my own, some months ago. Besides I prefer "plastic" reeds as these work better even with too much moisure. I use a 2.5 Legère Signature Reed with a Gottsu 7* Sepia Tone Jazz Metal silver plated MPC which is a fine combination for me.

Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions. I am a beginere and while practicing for about 15 minutes I start getting very creaky sounds from the saxophone. After I clean the neck and mouthpiece ( it gets wet) I start getting the normal sound. What I want to know that is this normal? I mean does one have to clean the neck and mouthpiece after every 15 minutes? Thanks.

Thank you very much Jeremy for your help as I've been having this problem too as I've started learning the soprano. I just wondered could it also be that I'm playing with a reed that is too soft? The reason why I ask this is that when I play my alto, I use a Hemker strength 3 reed, and for the soprano I'm using a Vandoren strength 2 or a 2.5. I will do what you suggest though. I'm gradually making progress otherwise, and the tone on the lower register starts off really clear until the wretched annoying sogginess comes back! Obviously with the soprano you have to work harder at the embouchure, so I'm spending more time with that. Anyway thank you very much for your fantastic videos which are extremely helpful as I get started.

Hi Carolyn, it’s possible that a harder reed may be causing you to blow harder, and therefore gather more moisture. Ultimately I’d try using the tips in this video for a couple of weeks to see if they help before trying a softer reed 😊 let me know how you go!

Yes, so sometimes both octave holes can get filled with spit and make octave notes sound fuzzy and rattley. How do we get rid of the moisture that is stuck in the octave holes?

Thank you for this. Been playing since October last year and have always had problems with saliva. It's getting better, but it still gets in the way sometimes. Swallowing beforehand is something I've never consciously thought about. So thanks for that tip. Just one more question about reed moisture. I read somewhere that you should soak your reed with water and vinegar regularly to thoroughly clean it. Wouldn't this split the reed or keep it water logged. Sorry for my ignorance in this area. I'm still learning and having so much fun. Thanks for the video.😊

Thanks for the comment! There are all sorts of different reed rituals out there, and some players like to soak their reeds before they play. Personally I’ve never needed to, and I don’t know many professionals that do, but in terms of just keeping the reed clean I always make sure to dry off the reed thoroughly when I finish playing then place it in a reed case. Avoiding food or drink (apart from water) immediately before playing also helps a lot. Probably the worst thing you can do is to leave your reed on the mouthpiece when you finish playing and put it in your case, as the moisture and the enclosed space will quickly lead to mould. If you notice the reed become darker with black areas it’s time to throw it out. If you’re interested, I made a little reed management video over here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er1hf5ylr5PTaWw.html Hope that helps 😊

So finished the entire series. Great course thank you. Having no luck with high E and F. Can get D and Eflat with the side keys but almost no sound at all with the front fingerings for E,F F#. Any suggestions?
@SaxTuition
@SaxTuition 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Armando., congratulations on finishing the series! Here are some tips that might help you with the high notes: - Experiment with your embouchure on those high notes by bringing the corners of your lips in more (like a drawstring) and applying a little more pressure to the reed with the bottom lip. - Don’t shy away from giving those high notes plenty of air, even if you split them and they sound horrible on the first few attempts! - Definitely use the side keys first before attempting the front F fingerings - those actually feel quite significantly different to the side keys and take a bit more practice. - Make sure your reed is fairly new before attempting the high notes - if it’s completely blown out you might find getting those high notes more challenging than they should be. Hopefully that helps, let me know how you go 😊 - Jeremy

Why do I get a big build of moisture, in the mouthpiece, only 5-10 minutes into playing? I try to clean it with the swab, but it damages the reed!

Getting through chapter 4 of the book. I am having trouble with the octave key. Hard to hit a consistent tone. Gets better when I retract the mouthpiece a bit. Seems I need more air to play these notes.
@SaxTuition
@SaxTuition 3 жыл бұрын
Hey David! Thanks for purchasing the series 😊 Try using a little less mouthpiece in your mouth and see if that helps, sometimes using too much stops us from being able to apply enough pressure on the reed to support the upper register notes. Also, check out this tone tips video I made about adjusting your embouchure as you move through the range of the saxophone, I think it will be really useful for you: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLR2n7mB0bWcdJs.html

That was a great tip. I didn't release I needed to adjust embouchure. I would have been stuck at lesson 4. Now I can hit the high notes with a bit of practice.

So for those of us who play with a synthetic reed? There's still spit bubbling through the neck and mp.
@SaxTuition
@SaxTuition 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Robyn, it shouldn’t matter too much whether the reed is synthetic, all of the principles remain the same. Periodically clearing out the excess moisture by sucking in through the mouthpiece will help clear most of it out before it gets a chance to pool up and bubble. Hope that helps!

Why do I get wet fingers from spit leaking from the keys onto my Left Hand when playing Tenor it never happens on my Alto though?
@SaxTuition
@SaxTuition 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bonny, it could be something to do with the shape of your embouchure on tenor, perhaps it’s causing a bit more saliva to go through the sax? Hopefully the tips in the video will help you out!
