Actually, I'm kind of glad she asked. It helped him to open up and share something he hasn't shared to most people. I think if he didn't want to go into it, he wouldn't have gone any further. But obviously he wanted to tell the whole story. It can be very cathartic to finally express your feelings about something that you don't really get to talk about much. Plus, it would have been really weird (and kind of flippant if you ask me) if he mentioned that "everything went downhill after my mom died" and she just stared at him blankly and asked: "so...what's your favorite color?" LOL!

i think because as she said in her post and as he has since said, why he doesn't want to be the bachelor, that he still has a lot of learning to do about himself and personal growth to go through before he can be the bachelor. He just started dealing with these emotions from the past 10 YEARS with Rachel. I also believe this is why he made the statement that he will never truly be over Rachel, because she opened him up.
