This one started out a straight forward repair but quickly turned into a handling.
The tool holder end would not unscrew from the housing. After looking inside more closely I realised the hammer bolt and stepped out the splins and wedged itself inside the hammer pipe.
Luckily having a few second hand parts allowed me to keep the cost down so I could use a new hammer bolt and o rings and x ring.
without the second hand parts this repair would not have been worth it. But repairing it ment i got to use up some old new stock parts. So itvwas a win win for the shop and the customer.

It looked like you were trying to unscrew the first head to the left…

Dropping that bearing and picking up the replacement in one motion was the slickest shut I’ve ever seen.

I just noticed there when you said it was a left hand thread when you were screwing it together but when you were taking the old one apart you were turning it the wrong way to loosen it if it was a left hand thread 4:40

you are right, i was doubting myself. tried unscrewing it left hand but it wouldnt budge. so thought i was wrong and tried right hand. still no good. had to actualy take out a new one to check if it was left of right hand thread. And it was left hand thread so i got a longer bar and gave her welly until i broke my tool. what a handling. a lot of messing about, and all for nothing.

Not for nothing, you got a memory you'll never forget, and the job done too. As much as I disagree with most things, moments like these are always the process. Thanks Dean.

The struggle is real Dean, thanks for posting these nice to see an expert at work. The tube has 2 flats in the middle that you could get a big wrench or small Stillson onto perhaps? Big impact gun on the 19mm AF hex tool set to 5 'ugga duggas' might crack it open, or maybe flip your bench😮. Leave it soaking in ATF and acetone for a few days might ease it a bit. Do you ever use Neva-Seez to stop the corrosion starting again? I've had one of these since the mid 90s. Doesn't get loads of use now but works when it needs to. Got some big core drills and a have used them to recess cctv cameras into concrete 'dressed stone'. Japan built Makita and Hitachi kit really were built to higher standards. 👍

If its a reverse thread no wonder you couldn't get the original one off, you were tightening it.

6:20 "It's a left hand thread" that's why you couldn't get the original to budge, you were tightening it instead of loosening it...
