Description: No one is ever prepared to hear their adult child tell them that they were sexually abused. Support is limited for non-offending partners and caregivers, and there is even less understanding of the experience of an adult, who finds out that their child was abused but they never knew about it and only now as an adult, has their child disclosed the sexual abuse they experienced. In addition to a wide range of emotional reactions, there also questions from a broad scope of need - from “Do I press charges now?” to “How could I not have known”. With the help of our guest expert, Mel Langston, PhD, LPC, founder of MOSAC, Mothers of Sexually Abused Children, we discuss both this experience and what we can do as caring bystanders and professionals to address healing and recovery.
