Yes this omg!! His vocals are absolutely incredible and I do sometimes feel that not enough people know what he's actually capable of musically 😮

i would be interested in a video from you about ageism in kpop: how female celebs once they get married and have kids disappear from the entertainment scene, and how girl group companies are constantly debuting with super young underage members nowadays and sometimes even inappropriately sexualizing them. there is def a fetishization of youth in kpop. also why do korean girl groups tend to attract more male fans especially middle aged ones compared to western girl groups, whose fanbase is mostly women or gay men

I immediately thought of Beomgyu. Although luckily, his funny side hasn't overshadowed his talent.

coming from someone who ults Beomgyu, I do it find it quite sad that non-MOAs, or those who don’t know TXT well but may have heard of them, only see him as the “funny” or “chaotic” member bc, like you said, his funny side isn’t overshadowed by his talent and I love seeing all his sides, but I have noticed he’s known more as the funny one before anything else. :/

@@moonlight-sunriize I think that described me for the first few months that I like TXT. A friend showed me some more videos that showed a more balanced side. Good of them.

@@amandafranklin1914 I’m glad you were able to see more than just his funny side tho!! I’m referring more to those who only see a certain side of Beomgyu rather than looking deeper. I think it’s fine if that’s how you start off as, I just hate it when that’s the *only* thing people see him as rather than someone who’s talented as well, yknow? 🥲

This is all true. I’m a got7 fan and I remember Jackson had a whole era where he wore hats (caps) to hide his face so people wouldn’t know he’s the funny guy from got7. It was a struggle for people to take him seriously. Whenever he wasn’t smiling or goofy people would think something is wrong with him for a long time until people got to understand he was just being himself or serious at this moment. Jype and Jackson made use of his bright personality but it did come at a cost. I’m glad now he’s just seen as Jackson

The moment i heard Chaotic/crackhead and comic relieve, BSS immediately popped into my head Also TXT's Beomgyu, The Boys' Kevin, BTS' Jhope, and GOT7's Jackson People who's humor (and sometimes laugh) is borderline annoying but always entertaining and they are super good at getting screentime, either from their hilarious comments or slapstick Personally as an Introvert, i find these people as pretty noisy and borderline annoying, but i'd never hate them for being themselves and/or for being professionals, they are entertainers after all

oooh that’s interesting. I like seeing different perspectives of an introvert bc I’m also an introvert but I feel the opposite where, rather than finding it annoying, I find comfort in people who have that kind of personality (whether it’s for show or not) lol, although I do understand how one may find it annoying.

army here! I always sympathised with how much people made fun of Taehyung, especially since I was considered the 'weird' kid myself. Taehyung has so many more qualities to offer- he's kind, polite, funny, savage, intelligent (with an IQ ranging between 120-140), and he's got this stunning voice. He isn't our idol to make fun of, or to sexualise.

exactly the same here! there was always so many more layers to him than just the '4D' side everybody chose to focus on, I really wish more people saw that 💖

I would like to add that the "alien" tag might have also came from BTS' rookie era. Around that time V used to do this "alien voice & language" quite a lot. There is also the fact that his BT21 character TATA is an Alien And so I think some ARMYS put these things along with him having a "4D personality" together and just went with the alien tag. I don't believe ARMY were really making fun of V. But were using it in an endearing way(for the most part). Most of the time when I saw people calling him an alien; i was always hearing people call him "their/our lovable alien" Being a "weird kid" as well. I believe some people lived vicariously through him. Because he was open with his behavior and some of us aren't/weren't brave enough to do the same.however, we never know what is going to bother someone and make them feel a certain way But like in the video, I'm glad that once he voiced his dislike for it, ARMY stopped 😊

@@flovonnejohnson707 I think you're right that it likely came from when the boys were younger. In Friends Jimin still refers to V as 'my alien' which I'm sure he wouldn't have done if it bothers V. But sometimes I think fans can take something they hear members say to each other and adopt it without taking into consideration the circumstances. Hearing 'my alien' from your best friend that's been by your side for years is likely different than hearing it from a fan (someone you love, but is ultimately a stranger)

@@ninarances9074I see it as a different image. The “innocent” image is usually reserved for the maknaes or a member who acts naive, shy, and clueless. The “sunshine” image is a member who is super bubbly and positive and looks like never stop smiling. Some examples include J-Hope of BTS and Chuu of Loona.

My biases usually are the "chaotic/cr*ckhead (as some call it)" types. V from BTS (though he's not as chaotic nowadays), seventeen DK, GOT7 Yugyeom, ateez wooyoung are some examples of those who are my biases. They're entertaining to watch always and they're talented so they became my bias lol

18:20 Thank you! It was literally my first thought as the downside to chaotic persona, I was reminded of Taehyung being a little bit more quiet and people were speculating he was sick or depressed.

I discovered kpop through Amber from f(x) ➡️Got7 because of Jackson being frends with Amber ➡️BTS because of Jackson being friends with Namjoon, became a ARMY because of V personality ❤

I wish I could find it, it was from awhile ago. V said that there is V when he’s working & Taehyung when not. You may sometimes see some Tae when he’s V but you will never see V when he’s Taehyung. You can see the difference when he’s with Wooga squad. He said on Friendcation he’s himself with them. I’ve never heard any of them call him V.

i'd love a video talking about how kpop helped shape modern politics such as how Girls' Generation and other SM artists controbuted to paving the way during 2nd gen for korean artists to perform in japan during a time where japan-korea relations were very tense and most korean artists were banned from performing on japanese TV. also how kpop groups have become an almost diplomatic tool for the korean government

These idols can still be exactly how they used to be portrayed in variety shows, it's just that people viewing them never take these other aspects of being part of a whole "person" seriously. If you are like me and a fairly closed off and private myers briggs "i" type, people don't ever expect or some don't like to learn you are actually a fun loving, weird person behind closed doors. It takes efforts of people willing to accept all the quirks. That's not possible though because every authentic part of yourself is a conflict for someone in the real world, we've seen how idols smoking gets scrutinized so hard, yet regular people can do it. You have to keep up a "good" image because you'll be judged. Idols have so many eyes on them, you can't simply brush off what the public label you as easily, but those who move on and are willing to lose those "fans" who thought they were supposed to have a certain image do just that and be themselves.

this topic was always on my mind ever since bts album Persona came out. The existence of a " persona " is needed not just for marketing stuff but to protect the idols themselves. Imagine if they were allowed to behave however they want in this day and age of cancel culture and bandwagon hates. both fans and companies push this personas on idols and I always wondered if it messed with the idols heads too. all of this idols start training in teenage years and some even debut that young. They're more impressionable than most grown ups. I thought that now that bts is big and they dont need to try as hard anymore maby it can a be a bit easier for them to be themselves and even though it might have happened already ( every member has been rebranded some how ) its sad too see the damage of bighits "branding" on bts even to this day. I cant count the amount of time Taehyung was called the R-word in Layover promotion period for the way he talks or the way the maknae line are heavily sexualized etc etc

I have enjoyed these in depth videos you have been doing lately. I do enjoy the 'comic relief' or 'chaotic' members of groups. Lily, Kyujin & Bae from NMIXX, Hanni & Danielle from NewJeans and most Of Purple Kiss are my favorite 'chaotic' persona members. Always lots of love & support to you, Fran. 💟😁🥰✌️

I'm definitely not immune to this. When I saw a video of beomhan dancing for the first time I was so shocked because I only knew him from funny internet videos up until that point. Like I know hes a dancer and yet I was so surprised! I had NEVER seen him serious before. Same thing happens very often with someone like p1h's keeho

As a Tae-biased Army, I honestly don't believe Tae ever said he didn't like the "alien" or "4D" title. I've looked far and wide for any quote from him and asked many, many people making this claim and no one can provide me with any proof. But I do have a theory for why fans started to believe that Tae hates being called weird: I think it was a simple cultural misunderstanding. Now that Kpop is a globally followed music genre, you've got people from other countries
