wow... i can understand he didn't like the way the "death" sounds but saying chuck can't shred is nothing understandable. he was a genius when it comes to soloing and putting certain notes together, everybody knows that, so its definitely not fair for him to say he is not able to shred. im surprised.

+Headbanger From Hell oh wow, I wasn't aware. I don't know a lot about their line up changes, etc...Death was just fantastic though, I think I need to learn everything about them. I really thought it was Reinert, pause it at 5:21 and tell me that doesn't look like him, lol. I guess I saw the hair, and assumed it was Sean's blondish hair tied up.

+nathantim I agree, they do look like each other quite a bit, but Richard was in the final lineup while Reinert was in the "Human" one. And I completely understand your point, the fact that Chuck was the only member through each album doesn't help either.

Dimebag had a certain skill to turn almost every solo in some kind of gimmick. Something cool that stood out, not necessarily difficult, but very dynamic. I could name a few, I might aswell name every solo he ever done, but a great example would be 5 Minutes Alone. His rythms were terrific aswell, although that was the work of him, Vinnie and Rex together. Chucks playing is so much diffrent, but just as inspiring to me. Sadly, their only similarity is their tragic deaths. But yeah, fuck Dean.

I love the way Chuck solos.....I don't know any of the technical jargon for guitar playing yet I've been playing guitar ever since I was 7yrs old and I'm 31yrs old now about to be 32 in 3 days but I just know how to play by ear and I've learned from my 1st guitar was a Christmas present Christmas of 1997' but my parents never even thought about me needing a left handed guitar and just ended up buying me a right handed strat body style guitar and so I just naturally flipped the guitar around and started practicing but would love to know those little solo phrases Chuck uses in basically ever single solo he played I don't have any idea what it might be called but any fan of Death or of Chuck and is a guitar player would probably know what I'm talking about Chuck goes back to this same shape all the time in his solos I just can't explain the exact parts I'm talking about but like I said he uses it on practically every solo he's ever done with Death it's like a really quick fast strumming while he plays it I wish I knew the style he uses when soloing because I've been trying to practice and get better at soloing because of me having this right handed strat body guitar I have trouble being able to reach high enough to solo because the lower horn to make soloing easier is on the wrong side for me it's over towards my low E string so it's not comfortable for me......I tried buying (finally after all these years!!) A Ibanez left handed guitar for cheap just so I could finally have a guitar made for me but waited and waited to get this guitar through eBay and was lied to about it being a left handed guitar......so now I have a 2nd guitar that is basically useless to me right now......the only thing I can do is have it to get the nut piece switched around so I can restring it like a left handed guitar (which I had already done to my original strat body guitar) which definitely helped me in every way but yet, the body still remained the same so soloing is still a bitch.....within these past 2yrs I've been learning how to play with a guitar pick because majority of my life when playing I always preferred playing with my fingers and nails...(which helped me with my speed when playing songs) but I realized the songs I want to learn and cover pretty much 100% of the time is palm muting throughout everything so I had to relearn guitar with trying to get my hand and eye coordination down with speed and smoothness with a pick....but my damn amp plug input into my guitar gets in my way....so does the tones and volume knobs because of it being right handed and I turn it upside down

What I can tell you in regards to Chuck’s soloing style is that he used the Phrygian mode predominately, so by maybe studying Phrygian scales you might find the shape you’re looking for.
