So glad seeing Arkane using their Dishonored game design for future games. It seems like this is their strength, just like From Software's strength is the Soulsborne formula. Can't wait to see what else Arkane creates in the future

When it comes to games with the 1960's art-style, I really loved No One Lives Forever 1 and 2.

I always regretted that Dishonored made me feel bad for playing a slightly faster, more lethal play style. For that reason, this is refreshing for me :)

I’m about 7 hours in an love it. The only thing is there is so much to remember and read with the loops so starting to get really confusing

It feels like the game doesn’t take itself very seriously and wants you just to have fun, also it encourages exploring and experimenting with the powers you get. That’s why I love Arkane they always make games with unique ideas

I'd venture to say it's Dishonored's funky Majora's mask

Something that sticks out about this game is that it’s actually funny. Most “quippy” games are more endearing than funny, but this game is just, funny-funny. Colt has some great lines

I'm not a big fan of these types of games but I love the look of it and the voice acting between Colt and Julianna is great. Keep up the good work Jake!

When I first saw Deathloop revealed I was like “alright that looks cool” and then during the second trailer I realized it’s by Arkane was super hyped for it. Their games are some of my favorites. Hoping this releases for PS4 at some point

Been playing all the Dishonored games a lot lately and just remembered this. Definitely need to get this

10:19 I’ve seen a ton of reviews on this and I have yet to see anyone mention the audio work that goes on here. You can hear Colts voice reverberate off the environment. It’s the first thing I notice when I started how his voice sounds completely different within the environment depending if you’re indoor or outdoors. It goes such a long way in making your character feel present in their environment, which is especially important for an FPS when you’re essentially a floating camera.

I'd like to just smoke a blunt and nerd about games with you one day. Love how you think about games man. Thanks for everything you do.

I think a lot of the reason some people are saying this is "Arkane lite" or "not really Arkane" is that previous games have encouraged stealth as the "right" way to play, whereas Deathloop does a complete 180 on that, encouraging you to get creative with your murder. It still feels totally Arkane to me and i really appreciate the game for what it does differently. And the '60's vibe and soundtrack are just awesome. I really hope this game gets a sequel, the setting, Colt, and Julianna deserve one. Oh and that orange hot dog on your turquoise wall? That's pretty Sixties. Jake.

I FINALLY unlocked the residuum and more roguelite elements of the game! It took a while but NOW the game is really picking up.

Played it 12 hours str8 today, love the chaotic gameplay and the dismemberment of limbs and heads being blown off😁. I did have the game freeze twice as I was exiting the mission at the keypad doors, I killed Juliana and the slab fell into the water off the map, had to redo those but I'm loving it.

Spot on about the 60s aesthetics. I can't stand all the "gee golly willickers!" stuff in Bioshocks, Fallouts, Outer Worlds, etc, and in most cases avoid games that have it because it's so overplayed. But here it's unique and quite brilliant. Very Clockwork Orange-y, 60s James Bonds, etc. I just wish I can play on Xbox :/

I'm a huge Arkane fanboy. I love Dishonored 1 & 2. I wouldn't say I like Deathloop better... but I can see how a lot of people are loving it and I get the 10/10's it's getting (as long as the crashes get fixed). I didn't think I'd care for the invasion concept and I figured I'd just turn it off but after playing as Juliana it's my favorite part of the game as a whole and I always keep my online mode on. Beyond that Dishonored plus 70's aesthetic plus guns is almost exactly what I wanted. I also like not feeling pressured to do perfect rounds and no state saving (though it's mind-bogglingly frustrating when it crashes). It just makes the game feel more free and less burdened by the responsiblity of perfect stealth or being nonlethal.

Players keep saying to play your own way , be stealthy , be stylish , run and gun...but I just wish there was rewards for doing cool things like residium multipliers or whatever.

I like structured games I didn’t think I’d get along with this game I downloaded it, played for 6 hours straight and woke up late for work. I plan to do the same tonight

The thing I love about the game is it makes it more accessible to jump into, if you are a little bit put off by the kind of drabness and slowness of the Dishonored games. And it really opens up once you get the residuum and blink powers

Yeah, so this game is genius. I love it. Never played anything like it so it was hard to wrap my head around but the more I play it the more I love it. I feel like they have invented a new type of game. Truly, this feels like a conceptual progression in video games.

Imagine an Arkane game written by Remedy with Remedy's physics engine.

I bought the Deluxe Edition a few days ago because it was on Sale and I'm really enjoying it so far.

The other reviews weren't really selling the game to me but after hearing your description of it I'm kinda interested now

Before I hop into Deathloop I need to play: A. Dishonored(pacifist) B. Dishonored(fun superpower rampage run) C. Dishonored 2(pacifist if that affects the story like it does in 1) D. Dishonored 2(rampage run) C. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and E. Prey As a guy born in 1998, I sometimes feel really behind on gaming. There are so many legendary/classic/landmark/word-to-describe-really-good/memorable games that I haven't played yet. Like Arkane, I've played the opening level to Prey, and that's it(young me rented it for a night from Redbox, which is why I didn't finish it, now I own it and need to go back to it). My backlog is flipping huge. By the time I get to Deathloop, the Redfall will out and the exclusivity will have expired.

I bounced back two times and finally after a 3rd time (after putting 3hs) i realized how good this game is. I wish this game did well enough to get more ganes like this.

You could not have explained my feelings any better for this game Jake. I had an utter blast.

I just bought the game on sale for $14.99.. I’m a huge fan of all of arkanes games leading up to this one, but after all the mixed reactions to it I decided to wait it out for a sale.. I mean i dont know if I’d feel different if I paid full price for it, but I’m about 14 hours in so far and I am absolutely loving this game right now.. I mean if u compare it to arkanes previous games maybe it’s not as deep and rich, but it makes up for that with great combat, amazing movement and traversal, and just straight up style

I swear, Arkane did the 60s vibe so, so well. I usually don’t like that genre much either, but it’s so colorful and bright, and the music is so fun and nice to listen to I’m also never really a fan of quick-paced games, but Deathloop is the one exception because they did it so well

I was kind of writing it off after the past few showings. Just seemed a little obtuse and didn’t seem like it had that much replay value for me. With that being said after all of the pleasantly surprised reviews, I think I’ll give it a try. Thanks for all you do, Jake!

I had one Juliana invasion that got me super pumped. I was sneaking around on a roof top trying to find her. I see her running down a street, I quickly link her to an AI enemy, one tap the AI with my silenced SMG and they both die instantly! That one got me up outta my chair in excitement.

Hope Falcon paid attention to how Colt pronounced “iteration”

I totally agree. I bought this blind and hadn’t seen or heard anything about it. If I had I probably wouldn’t have bought it. I’m so glad I did though because it’s one of the most unique and addictive games I’ve played.

Anyone who played through the game should look up the lore on KZfaq. A lot of each character's backstory gets lost because the focus is gameplay, but the story actually is really cool when you put the pieces together. I wish the narrative would have been as in your face as the leads were

I just got the Sepulchra Breteira, I won't explain what that is because potential spoiler for some but if you know then you know, and I'm loving it. Also just survived my first full day (after intro) and killed three Visionaries, this game is an absolute thrill and delivers well on those narrow escape moments. So yes, I am thoroughly enjoying Deathloop myself!

This look's so good, I live paycheck to paycheck so cant afford it at the moment, but for sure going to try this once i can! This game look's like it could have wicked DLC in the future!

How long would you say it takes to click? I really enjoy pretty much everything about this game... except, I just can't seem to follow the "story/golden path" jumping from each of the 8. Its no clicking yet

I think I will get it eventually. My September is pretty full though, what with tales of Arise that I'm currently playing. Then Kena next week. It's great though that we have so many different types of games to choose from. Spoilt for choice really.

So I have returnal. Played it for a few weeks and enjoyed the gameplay when I was doing good. But the difficulty ended up being a little to much for me and I also got frustrated with the whole starting from the start after you die mechanic. So I put the game away for now. With that said, will I like deathloop? Is it similar to returnal and as hard??

I'm enjoying Deathloop overall! I have had two legendary weapons and am rocking 32 Steam achievements which include both achievements that involve playing as Julianna and I actually got the achievement where I disguise my Julianna as the other player's Colt first and then the one where I successfully kill the other player's Colt right afterwards in the same match and I only have her in level 4 currently! I switched my progress with Colt to single player mode because it got frustrating for me constantly being gunned down and sneak stealth killed by a human player of Julianna! One time I got two achievements when I killed the visionary Alexis when he was disguised as Julianna thanks to Julianna taking his form and I could tell it was Aleksis looking on KZfaq for the Alpha Burger achievement and the key first words that he spews out on stage and got two achievements one for killing all visionaries at least once and for killing Aleksis in the particular direction the achievement wanted me to and then I got gunned down by the angry mob of eternalists with the help of Julianna on their side! LMAO! Great video btw!

Wondering if you could answer a question I have in regard to the DLC weapons. I understand that you lose everything you have on you when you die and I wondering if you can permanently lose them? what with them being paid DLC and all.

It's very expensive in NZ, so I'm waiting for a sale before jumping in. In the meantime though I'm playing Dishonored (got lost and never finished it) and then going to try Dishonored 2
