I've been playing this today (it was on bbc6 music earlier and i realised i'd never tried to play it). I started using the Emaj power chord on the 7th fret down to the Amaj power chord as you play it. I couldn't make it sound right so i did a quick search for it on YT and this was the first hit. Subbed! thank you!

Great deconstruction. Thanks for that Mark. What I can't figure out - or if I do I instantly forget - is the COUNT for this riff. Damon always begins singing on an unexpected beat. When the chorus stops and Graham starts again that also seems to set up a weird beat again. THEY must know what the secret is but it forever puzzles me. Is the riff starting on the 1?

Thanks. The riff always starts on beat 1 and the vocal comes in (verse) on beat 3.

Hi@@onlineguitarteacher . Thanks for getting back on this. I was still trying to figure it last night. Then when I saw your analysis this morning I had another go and it seems that the riff AND the vocal start on the 1, so why I was having any difficulty is a mystery to me! I think it's the fact that (to me anyway) it is very easy to feel that the first slide down chop of the riff feels like it is falling on the AND BEFORE the 1. After that the pulse seems natural until Damon does his thing and blows it all apart for me. Realising the slide IS the 1 the whole thing stays together. I am sure to forget this next time I try it. Really the clue is in Graham's 16 count in chops. Once I listen to those I SHOULDN'T get lost - but I WILL. Nice lesson though Mark. Cheers.

@@goodbyepolarbears172 yes, but count the ‘chops’ as 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & .....(rather than 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8....)

Ooh that'll throw me @@onlineguitarteacher !!! I feel it as a 4/4 song so just count those chops as 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4. It seems to help me think in that way as any sections with Damon singing or the full band playing seems to be in 4/4. Whatever gets us through hey?! I've had similar discussions when playing on my son's songs and even in my own band's. In the end we all find a count that works for us and means we don't get lost I suppose. Any count that includes the word 'seven' knackers me due to the fact that it contains two syllables. Doh!

@@goodbyepolarbears172 sorry about that! Do try it though. It should help - it means that guitar starts on beat 1 and vocal on beat 3. Counting your way means both start on beat 1 and is confusing (as you’ve found)
