The whole “no nasties” trend, can’t stand it. It’s totally meaningless and I lose a little bit of respect for even good brands that use language like this. “No nasties, no parabens, no sls, and free of over 400 potentially harmful chemicals” like free of gasoline? Arsenic? Hydrochloric acid? I sure hope so!

I would be grateful if you said something more about how telogenes in the skin work. I remember years ago reading a terrifying article about how exfoliation and reinoids shorten telogenes in our skin and therefore are really harmful in the long run. It successfully put me off using those in my skincare until now. I know you mentioned somewhere that that's not true and that's not how skin works, but I'd be interested in learning something more. Thank you for this video :)

Great suggestion; I’d love to know more about telogenes as well!
@TheKeybladeKeeper
@TheKeybladeKeeper 3 жыл бұрын
Medical student here so I have a lot of biology/biochem background. Telogens are part of our DNA. When our cells turn over, it requires them to copy our DNA for the “daughter cell.” While the copying happens, due to the way DNA is read to make the copy, it misses a small bit of the DNA. Telogens are essentially caps on the end of DNA (think like the caps of our shoe laces) that prevents the DNA from fraying. As our cells turn over throughout our life, this leads to the cap getting smaller and smaller. That’s why things that increase cell turnover (like exfoliating and retinoids) can lead to these telogens being used up sooner. We also have an enzyme called telogenase whose job is to replace our telogens, but we can’t simply give people more of this enzyme bc it can lead to uncontrolled cell growth which could develop into skin cancer.

Hell, even up until a few years ago I was using physically exfoliants daily and wondering why my skin never stopped breaking out until I quit using them. Myth5 debunk just saved my life because someone checked on me for saying retinol should not be using with aha due to low ph and they're cancelling each other out, so goes for vit c but all i said was these may benefit retinol in some ways but the irritation risk will be doubling or tripling but it is not true that aha or vitc should not be used in the same routine as retinol for the ph reason

Hi Michelle. I do gentle exfoliation daily. I love to know about Chemical Exfoliation moisturizer or gel creams on how they remove dead skin cells. The product sits on top of your skin. Obviously, they are not in toner form where you can use cotton pads to help exfoliate the dead skin cells.

Dead skin cells come off all the time - in the water when you wash off cleanser, on your pillowcase, on your clothes... sometimes they just come off into the air! About half of the dust in your house is dead skin cells.

I have been getting dead skin and funk rolling off during makeup application or even just sunscreen, and I’ve been so frustrated because I use good chemical exfoliants and I’m not over doing it, but why don’t the dead skin cells magically disappear?? I never had this problem when I was physically exfoliating unless I wasn’t 🤨 I’m going to find a gentle physical exfoliate and I promise to not over do it. I’ve been commenting these questions on everyone else’s videos and even tweeting them and never got any feed back. Thank you for mentioning number 3.

Firstly, are you sure it's dead skin and not your products interacting? Sunscreens can often do this and it looks like a lot of skin coming off. Otherwise yeah, it could just be that whatever you're doing in the rest of your routine isn't getting enough dead skin off, so even wiping your face with a wash cloth after cleansing could help.

I have been using glycolic acid for around 3 years now and a few days ago I overexfoliated my skin for the first time. It gave the effect of 0.05 tretinoin on me. My skin is a little peely and a little red, but it doesn't look that bad. Thankfully from years of eczema I know how to deal with dry peely skin. I'm back to just using gentle cleansers, sunscreen, and excipial emulsion with 4% urea. I hope my skin can recover soon. I know that excipial is mainly for eczema on the body, but it worked great on my face for years. It's deeply hydrating, moisturising, and strengthens the skin barrier with urea. It's the only thing I can put on my damaged skin that doesn't sting, and it keeps my skin hydrated all night long so I don't feel the dryness when I wake up in the morning.

What about dry brushing for the body? I've heard a lot of differing opinions and information about it and they say that it can help a lot with ingrown hairs, which is a concern of mine, but I've also heard that it can cause a lot of issues and that you shouldn't do it.

I love your videos and this is super informative! Great timing because I'm just about to start exfoliating soon! I don't know if this is a stupid question but I was wondering if it's alright to include exfoliation in my routine when I'm working in a lab? I work with experiments that need lots of solvents and even though I do work under fume hoods, I'm just scared?

I have a “crusty” skin type. Which is also why I’m a chronic sufferer of dandruff. I’ve tried many “superior chemical exfoliants” which successfully drained my wallet and irritated my skin. Even with frequent and heavy moisturizing, using oily moisturizers to seal in the moisture, and occasional exfoliating. I still get crusty and flaky skin, it’s only visible with makeup though. I settled with, cleaning my oily zones more often than the dry parts of my face. Using salicylic acid where I need it, instead of the already dry parts. When I don’t physically exfoliate, skincare and makeup just sits on a layer of dead skin. I figure it’s best for me to see a professional, it’s just a matter of when I’m able to.

Hi michelle! Is it good to use cotton fabrics as physical exfoliator for my body? And, is once for every 4 day exfoliation a healthy enough interval? Also, I use chemical exfoliator (a rinse off mask) for my face because i need to be as gentle as possible to that area.

Michelle now that clascoterone/winlevi got approved as the first anti-androgen topical drug for acne, can you please tell us whether it is worth the hype? They completed phase 3 trial, published it and the drug got approved by the FDA, does it really make a big difference in terms of acne and sebum production? A small early study from 2011 showed it to be more effective than tretinoin at treating acne but after phase 3, I wonder if that turned out to be true!

I safely use 1) Pixi Glow tonic (twice a day), 2) Retin A (nighttime) and 3) a sensitive skin FOREO Luna 2 with a DHC rice enzyme powder (morning only) and I have found this to be the best regimen for exfoliating my skin without the side effects of over exfoliating.

Hi, I use a La Roche Posay chemical exfloliating serum and I find my skin dry and escamating and don't really feel the benefits I did when I used peeling gels. Is this a common side effect? does this mean that my skin does not like chemical exfoliants or at least that one? I have acne-prone sensitive skin, and I really trust la roche posay as a brand and this product, in particular, has great reviews however i find my skin sad without glow and really easily breakable (escamable) Hope someone can shed some light on this! love your videos! thanks!

Exactly,this is what i say to people around me but still people are people particularly the girls now a days too much obsessed with skin perfection that they use things on their skin without proper guidance. You tube give information but that's not prescription according to one's skin condition. So, no matter how many doctors , chemist say correct things about skin care in you tube but it's still best to visit certified dermatologist or professionals and know about own skin, requirements etc before indulging one self into potent actives or treatments.
