Friendlys back then meant much more and santos would even forefeit copa games and league games to be on tour. Also those radicouls score lines shown are not league games but early stages in tournaments.

I was never a Pelé fan...but when I saw what he did back then....basically he is a whole team in one player. The man was perfect in all aspects of the game. He can't be even compared to anyone...he wasn't human.

To be honest it is very difficult to compare footballers from different eras considering the different circumstances all these players have played in. But if we speak in terms of relative to their era, Then i think Pele being acknowledged as the best player of his era, in the 1960s, is definitely a reasonable statement and i think most would agree with that, in my opinion. No doubt that there are other great players aswell in that era, the 1960s, like george best, beckenbauer, Sir Bobby Charlton etc. To be honest, in terms of great players in world fotball in that era, i think the 60s was one of the best eras in football history. And regarding Pele , even going by official accounts, Pele still scored 700 something goals and i saw a stat somewhere which tried to count all of Pele's assists , where he had 300 something assists aswell. Which is basically Cristiano Ronaldo and messi numbers. And going by what Pele's peers said about Pele then it definitely sounds like Pele should at least be in the goat discussion. I also believe that the offside rule existed in Pele's time aswell and that the offside rule was even more stricter in Pele's day. Actually i think the offside rule has been in football at least since the beginning of the 1900s and i just read on Wikipedia that offside was proposed as a rule as early as the 1860s in English football by the English Football Association. With an offside law being proposed in 1863. I kind of cringe when i hear people talk about Pele, like he didnt even play with the offside rule at all 😂. To be honest i wasnt sure before either. Lastly , red cards and yellow cards didnt exist in the 1960s but was introduced in 1970 at the world cup in Mexico. And cards didnt become mandotary at the world cup before 1982 i believe, although i believe many Leagues around the football world adopted the rule to their Leagues. To sum it up, i think people need to do more research on past players to really understand their greatness🇧🇷🔟❤️

By the way, i have bought a Pelé 1958 World Cup kit because i really admire Pelé even if im in my early 20s. Just to add something extra perspective aswell; look at what pele did in his time, doing skill moves and different moves etc. and compare it to how the modern greats of football played/play. Also i like to add that Pele was one of the few footballers in football history who truly changed football. Even if someone dont think Pele is the greatest which is fair to be honest, Pele still is arguably the one who changed football forever. From a sport that was worldwide to a certain extent even in Pele's time, to becoming the biggest and most followed sport in the world today by some distance aswell to be honest and fair. I think there are basically over 3 billion people who follow football worldwide and some of the key figures in football who contributed to that is the king of football himself , Pelé. Yet when it comes to soccer everyone claims Messi and CR7 are the GOATS which because Pele played in the 1960s but to people living in 2122 players like Messi and CR7 will be tactical and technical manure on that very same criteria. I think Pele is overrated, but It's obvious that he was the greatest of his time and he did shape the direction of modern football. I like to compare him to Muhammed Ali. In terms of abilities, they may not be the greatest of all time, but they made these two sports what they are today and if you like Football/boxing or just sports in general, you should have massive respect for both of them.

"At that time" is not at this time. Every sport has records broken since the 60's. Pele never won the World Cup. Brazil did. How come Pele is the only sportsman who is still the best for over 60 years.
