Debussy "Clair de Lune" for a gentle female elephant called Ampan. Ampan is 80 years old and lives with us as Elephants World in Thailand. She is blind in one eye and can barely see with the other. 80 years old is very old indeed for an elephant, it’s about 10 years past the natural life span of an elephant in the wild.

Elephant immediately reacts with ear flaps as soon as the playing started...it is also feeling the vibration of the piano through the ground, especially in the lower registers, so it's actually experiencing the music in ways we can't...pretty cool...would love to know what it's thinking about all that...🐘🐘🐘

@Temulon
@Temulon Жыл бұрын
"and the look of joy and contentment in her eyes" What a load of crap. You believe it's joy and contentment because that is what you want to see. You obviously are biased and you're attributing human traits, emotions, or intentions to elephants which aren't humans. If you took a screen shot of the closeup of the elephants eye and printed out an image which you showed to a large number of people and asked them "What do you believe this elephant is thinking?" you'd get a great number of different opinions, none of which by the way, might be joy and contentment. The bottom line is that you have no idea what an animal is thinking/experiencing when they hear music. All you know it what YOU experience and you assume the animal does too. TL;DR...You're a moron.

@@Anon1gh3You could be wrong though. Elephants do grief whenever they lose a relative in a herd and they do shed tears, but scientists are unsure if it's due to an emotional reason or not. But they do feel sadness and empathy, so I kinda want to believe they do cry.
@Anon1gh3
@Anon1gh3 2 ай бұрын
@@its_johnH Well lets not let our wants obscure the truth. We humans have a bad habit of projecting our sympathies onto animals. By the way, "empathy" is based on shared experience, "sympathy" is based on emotion. People say women are more empathetic than men but that's actually backwards. Men generally want to help those they have common experiences with, whereas women generally want to help those who are the _most_ different or unrelatable, often to the detriment of both parties. If you don't know what problem you're dealing with, more harm tends to be the result. There's something called a white savior complex that exemplifies this.

This will always and forever be my favorite video of all time. Elephants fascinate me. They laugh, and they cry. They love and they hate. They have traditions and rituals. They play with their children, and they mourn their dead. All it takes is a set of eyes and a basic sense of empathy to recognize them as self-aware beings much like you and I. An elephant's brain weighs 12 pounds. That's the same as about 4 human brains, not to mention we humans probably had to trade off a lot of mental functionality in order to have language. We think we're the smartest because we're the only ones that can have a conversation about it. But I guarantee that elephant is wiser than me. The way her entire demeanor changes when he starts playing, you can tell she's listening and enjoying the music. Something about the way her ears move in recognition just tugs at my heart. It's such a melancholy thing to see that reaction from a creature that's lived such a long life and has seen much more than I have, or may ever see. There are emotional depths behind those eyes that we as humans could never fully grasp. But when we do manage to bridge that gap, even for just a moment, it's by way of pure empathy, and it's truly beautiful.

To respond to your mention of us trading some possible intellect for speech, this is called the Cognitive Tradeoff Theory. Through demonstration, we can show that the main ability we sacrificed is a photographic short term memory with complex spacial placement. Though, while I think humans are smarter overall, wisdom is harder to express or quantify. I don't doubt elephants can be wise. Wisdom is mostly influenced by experience and something that has lived for 80 years, regardless of intelligence, would have a wealth of experience.

No matter how many times i listen to this i will never stop getting emotional from this song. A person who once meant everything to me would always come to me whenever they'd needed some comfort and she would always play this song in the background on Spotify or KZfaq, she would even ask me to play it to her sometimes when she didn't want to open up a new tab since i have a piano at home. It would always make her feel better as it would play and she would stare at me with the most gentle and peaceful stare, even loving in some occasions. Just like this elephant, she would stay quiet and enjoy until it was over. A few months after she's gone and this video appears. To see this truly hit a sensitive spot for me and it hit even deeper when i saw the man resting his head on his giant friend. I really wish it could have been this way with her too while it lasted.

When I was about 4 or 5, I was at a zoo and ran off from my family. I had my back against a bush and I heard a noise behind me. I turned around and an elephant was standing on the otherside of a fence. I'm guessing she had gotten in the inbetween spot (since they had 2 rows of fencing at that zoo and this was their outdated enclosure), but she was staring at me and waving her ears around. She reached through the fence with her trunk, and I tried to reach up and touch her, but I was too short. It was a very touching moment for me, and I've felt connected to elephants since. I wish I could have reached her.

I can't say I'm an expert regarding music or animals; but what it looked like is: She seemed to very much like the consonant parts of the song (her ears were wagging back and forth through those); not to say she didn't like more dissonant parts. But, I suppose, like humans, we all like those parts that mesh well, or give us that feeling of resolution, and it certainly seems that she did too! What an amazing video, and an amazing experience for you to have.

I love the way she flaps her ears when he starts playing, its like she is enjoying it and reminds me of a dog wagging its tail. Although I dont know if it means that Edit: Its been a while since I posted this comment and now returned to read the replies (8 months), probably one of the most wholesome reply sections I've ever seen :-) Its heartening to see so many people watching this beautiful Elephant and talking about her / them

Flapping ears can express excitement or joy, yes, but it can also be used as a way to communicate with their herd if they are beating their ears loudly. In very hot weather, elephant may flap their ears to cool down, but I perceive in this case, she is expressing joy at the gentle melody. Thus really is the best thing KZfaq has recommended for me in a while! 🐘

When you are close to an elephant, you feel that you can hear its thoughts. Just like telepathy. It's phenomenal. Elephants have so much depth in them and so do classical musician. It's almost a spiritual meeting of two souls.
@benjamind.collette6468
@benjamind.collette6468 Жыл бұрын
As should every encounter should be. We humans are in the billions whilst these animals number in the thousands perhaps hundreds. It is indeed a meeting of two souls but it inherently more special because it's not as if you could walk outside and meet an elephant alost instantly. These animals are protected. And rightly so, anyone who sows the evil seeds of karma will surely be the hand that also wipes themselves out. Karma will always get you in the end. But I digress, I say that elephants are unique and special. And it was a wonderful treat to see this video. I really could feel the emotions the elephant was conveying. If aliens have been studying us I'd really hope they take into consideration just how wonderful humans can be. Not every one of us is the same......

Someone beautiful being given a gift like music. Her peaceful eyes speak volumes. Even though they are the largest land Animal, they choose to be the most gentle and appreciative. Unlike small weak humans who choose to hurt her kind & other Animals. But then you come across people like this. This little concert was a privilege for him to do and he knows it. Only special people deserve to get this close to the noble & regal Royals of the wild!♥️🐘♥️ Thank❤You Sir for doing this!🤗♥️☘️🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦🕊
