This was a brief look into my thoughts on architecture and engineering as professions. Seeing as I only have experience in one field I may be a little biased but I would love to know what your thoughts are on the subject.

I think problem solving skills are also required in Architecture. Design should not be confused with artistry either - Albeit they are related, they are quite distinct from one another. Good design can sometimes not look so artistic.

Thank you for sharing your journey, I too switched after 3rd year of college into civil/structural engineering. Awesome content man, keep it up!

Actually Architects choose the appropriate structural system for the building as those are the integral part of its functional and oftenly aesthetical solution.So an Architect must have to have the knowledge of the different structural system/ principals applicable & most suitable for different building forms & types.Structural engineers typically do the further analysis & construction details of the structural elements.

Structural Engineer does Design and Analysis using the drawing of Architecture engineer. It's a collaborative work in my opinion

Hi. I'm a STEM graduating student. And now I'm really stucked between Architecture and Civil Engineering. Architecture is my first choice and CE is the 2nd. But, my father wants me to take CE and proceed to Archi if it is what I really want. I like both actually, so, I'm wondering if there's a joint course for these two. HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

Hey Angel, it’s definitely a tough decision to make. My only advice would be to make the division that you think you would have more fun learning. It’s going to be hard either way but don’t decide on one just because you’re parents advise you to. I did that and spent 3 years on business. Good luck and I wish you all the best!👍

@@angelikaortega5706 Im in my final year of civil engineering and my sister is studying architecture so Ik about both it's hard choice ik but think like what u wanna do for rest of ur life do u like visualizing , designing architectural form of building or ur more interested in actually building what's in design and managing everything from construction workers to owners . ur personality will also help u decide which one is better for u if ur creative , artistic or kind of person who doesn't like to follow traditional ways but to try something new architecture is good for u if ur realistic person , good in maths and overall good in managing alot of tasks and multitasking then civil will be good for u I hope it helps :)

I don’t think so, engineering alone covers a lot of other topics besides buildings/structures. Becoming overwhelmed with work would inevitably happen since I know architects have a huge work load from their classes. I’ve also learned it’s better to do one thing really well, rather than multiple things poorly. Multi-tasking is always productive. Edit: “Multi-tasking isn’t always productive.”

Which career between the two pays more?
@dmontenegro
@dmontenegro Жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure but from the amount of time and energy architects put into their projects (not necessarily ALL architects), they are definitely not paid enough! In university, the architecture program is also another year longer than engineering so there's that to also consider. I also believe you have to go to Grad school to get your masters in order to become a licensed architect (engineering only requires a bachelors degree). Which is more time/money to invest into your education. I'm definitely biased but I would wager engineers make more, at least for the for 10 years if not longer.

You changed from Business major to Civil/Structural Engg??? You ought to make video on that lol. Please make a detailed video on your thought process at the time of decision making and how you dealt with the feelings of wasted/lost time in your 20s.

Lol yeah that happened. I don't think of it as lost time, I think of it as a learning experience but you might be right. It could be an interesting video, thanks!

Hey Sam, Aside from having a good resume and having some experience, make friends with classmates in your classes. You might meet a friend who might help you land an internship or vice-versa. Always be friendly and helpful to others around you, people will notice. Good luck on the job hunt!👍 Might make a video on this, so thanks!
