I used a gas powered earth auger to help dig the holes fir deck footings. Was using an electric drill with a mixing paddle but the drill would get very hot. I made an adapter using a pipe coupler, a nipple and a fitting to allow me to fasten the mixing paddle to the gas auger powerhead!

Those post anchor brackets are small for all of that concrete. It will not prevent lateral movement in a storm zone. Also , because of the short rods on the brackets, there isn't much lift strength in high winds.

I wasn't too confident on the anchors myself, I'm not a contractor but I did question them. What would be a better type of anchor to use? So far im not too impressed with the steel strap types they seem way too flimsy and honestly thought about making my own out of 1/8" sheet metal welded up into a support structure with anchor leg(s)

Simpson makes a lot of these post bases and I have seen quite a few specified in my buildings. They are engineered to meet most conditions - a 4x4 post anchored into a concrete footing cannot be expected to stop a fully loaded concrete truck speeding at 30 mph. It should stop a sedan backing up at 5 mph. But I am not an engineer...Joseph, save your time and buy a Simpson. If you need something that thick, build 18" diameter reinforced concrete column and not a tiny 6x6 wood post.

I thought you had to add rebar in the cement for structural support?
@berrettbuilds9374

You only have to add rebar if the footing will be supporting a certain load. Most decks don't require it.

Also, concrete is extremely strong in compression.

I want to add a couple 4x4 posts to an existing deck, is it better to put the posts in the concrete(wind) or use a metal bracket like in the video?

Metal bracket with offset base.

Metal brackets will never hold in a high wind area. The post should be buried in concrete

Something like Simpson PB post base will be perfect. It is embedded in concrete and designed for uplift. Wood posts embedded in concrete is for wood fences - will rot eventually.

Does using the tube make the footing stronger than just pouring the concrete into the ground?
@bighammer587

nick stopfer ...I would think not. Typically the sonotube would be cut to length to sit at ground level.

The tube also keeps debris out of your concrete that can weaken or contaminate it.

uses less concrete

Tube would be better than straight into the hole. Less chance of frost heave, way less concrete contamination, less concrete needed.
