Here we are finishing up our concrete footers by adding the bracket into the wet concrete.
Check out our full video on the concrete footers for building a deck.
This is a 6x6 bracket for a 6x6 to get screwed into.

@@throughoureyes5160 Hi there. I had mine installed in posts just like this, but there is a declining drop in elevation as the posts go toward my backyard. I'm told the saddles need to be shimmed up when I put in the beams, but there seems to be quite a difference from one saddled post to the other. I'm wondering how I would attach my beam, if there is a big shim on one saddle to make the beam level.

I did my footers similar to this for my deck. 9 days ago. The difference is that I set 6" J-bolts in the concrete. Then I attached the footing bracket to them and set pressure plates on top 24 hours after pouring the footings. Why is it now that when I attach my 4x4 posts to the brackets the J-bolts come loose with just the slightest pressure on the 4x4?

100 %, that's the worst layout I've ever seen. Definitely at leas twice as many as you need.If you use the proper brackets, you also don't have to round your top. The bracket holds the post out of water. So you've now use a flat bracket on round surface. So you're gonna push it in deeper. Increasing water contact. Makes sense.

After this video I had to go see if there were others or more on your build, I found the longer version. I do agree that the last bit of your concrete was to dry, but the lower portion of your pour looked good. I'm guessing as you worked that the little bit at the end was dry due to time. You made the comment that to wet will make it weaker, yes wet concrete will allow the aggregate to settle, making it weaker. Dry concrete is probably worse as allows for voids and no bonding to the aggregate. Worse case is that if you had a voids from dry concrete over time it would take water and during a freeze thaw cycle spaul on you weakening your column. I guess what concerned me most was I didn't see you use any rebar in the tall column or tie it to your footer... Reality, is that you built a deck for your yurt, it will probably last a LONG time as is... Keep up the hard work.

@jtltet
@jtltet 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, that doesn't hurt it's strength or ability to support the structure above. For example, on a slab that is poured using the monoslab technique, you start your framing or block on the edge of the footing. As long as the concrete is mixed correctly and allowed to set up to full strength before the load is applied it will be fine.
@zeke112964
@zeke112964 5 жыл бұрын
@@jtltet Actually it does ...when we pour footing and build a foundation it has to be centered on the footing to distribute the weight evenly .....same applies for a pier for a deck you want your support in the center so it puts even pressure on it otherwise it will tilt and fail over time...Monolithic slabs are designed to put the weight on the edge but wouldn't work if you move the wall in on top of the slab

Scary my friend. You are in the woods. No building code and inspection apparently. A lot of issues here for reliability of these advises as to educate DIY people. As everyone else said here many flaws. Unlike other I would not mind the many posts if your are building with triple 2 by 6 for max height of finished product. Supposed it is for a deck beam? For a house, too many and not on 2 by 6. You did not center your brackets. Your tube hopefully is 18 inch with a VERY wide base and footing. Did not show that. Not sure your rope is aligned to the base of the post. Would all be different size. As some people said, dry concrete (strength but still too dry), and the addition after the fact. Leveling such a dry concrete as you adjust the bracket I fear you brackets base wont be held tight by the concrete. I won't keep going but bad video to follow to be good with the code in any place around ... but the wood.
