BAKU - For many, Vladimir Putin is a strong decisive leader. An example to be emulated. Sometimes he seems nearly untouchable. Yet, strong leaders leave behind big shoes to fill. Currently, no one in Russia is qualified to replace Putin. In fact, the President himself may no longer be up to the challenge.
Russian politics is often compared to a dogfight under a carpet. An outsider only hears the growling and when only one dog comes from beneath it’s obvious who won. At the moment, that’s exactly what’s happening in Russia. There is no mention of this in the mainstream media, but for the past few years, the elites have been in a rigorous power play. With the low energy prices and Western sanctions, resources are shrinking. The oligarchs and regional officials are fighting for scraps of power. Putin may be a brilliant politician but the Russia he has created is the new Sick Man of Europe.

Problems of "sick man Russia" and "sick man Europe" are actually connected. Russia economic capacity is around third of Europe (more or less like Germany) and Europe suffered from sanctions the same way like Russia. On the other side Germany corporations benefited by gaining new markets when Russian corporations are forced out politically. Very complex situation.. especially when you consider that German political power is rising as a result of whole situation and the rest of Europe is not very happy with that. The whole dynamic represent classical example of struggle between imperialist powers not unlike the situation we had before WW1.

I agree Tanya. And as an American, consuming world news and seeing reminders in this video of all of the names of all of the many needless conflicts that have been going on under Putin's direction, including Dagestan, Chechnya, Georgia, Crimea, Syria, Aleppo, Ukraine, etc. And this doesn't even begin to touch on all the insidious and ruthless attempts to weaken democracies all through the world through direct cyber warfare and by sowing chaos and division through mass social media disinformation and propaganda, and fake news, including in the US, UK, Germany, France, Australia, etc. His efforts have also helped to promote the rise of hard right wing nationalism, anti-immigrant sentiment, racism, radicalism, insurrection, and the like. Try to imagine how different the world would have been without men like Putin and Hitler to have caused so much death, destruction and division across the whole of Earth and its humanity.

@privatename3621 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheTuberguy1000 The mere fact that you lump Pelosi and McConnell in the same category shows you know nothing about American politics. I guess to you, good vs. evil is all a big gray area. I could easily compile a list of similarities between Hitler and today's Putin that is so spot-on to where this is all heading, but I'm not going to waste my time. Putin is a despot. Hitler was a despot. Putin and Hitler both committed atrocities against innocent civilians, committed acts of genocide, and had an insatiable lust for more land and power. Be delusional if you want to, but you'll be wrong. And as far as the Russia-Trump connection, you're an idiot if you think there was nothing to it. Trump was never "exonerated". The special council investigation explicitly said if they could have exonerated him they would have. But he put up a 100% total obstruction of justice campaign and defied all requests to cooperate with the investigation. If Mueller wasn't such a decent man, who tried to play be the old rules of decency and decorum, but instead has the balls to do what should have been done, Trump would be in prison right now. Trump has been laundering dirty Russian money for decades. He got involved with them long ago, when all other banks refused to do any business with him because he was a serial bankruptcy artist that walked away from one financial disaster after another. Even his own son Eric said "we get all the money we need from the Russians" until papa told him to shut his mouth about that. Trump and his intense desire to meet with Putin during his beauty pageant in Moscow and his desire to build a Trump hotel in Moscow. The Russians obviously had compromising recordings, video, etc on Trump from his many stays at their state-controlled and bugged hotel. Why do you think to this day, Trump has never said a negative world about Putin? Just coincidence? Do be a fool. But it's all there. Just google it. Trump campaign's undisclosed secret meetings with Kislyak. Trump staff meetings with a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer to get dirt on Hillary. Trump asking the Russians to hack "find" Hilary's emails. Russians then following through by hacking the DNC and DCCC emails. Jared Kushner and his request for back channels to the Kremlin. Trump Tower computers connecting directly to Russian computers. Russians micro-targeting gullible voters in swing states with mass disinformation campaigns, memes, and propaganda. That barely scratches the surface. This actual connections and interwoven cooperation between Trump and the Russian is mind boggling. Look, just take the Cambridge Analytica scandal as just ONE example of these cooperative and synergistic connections between Trump, his campaign, and the Russians. If you haven't yet, and you have access (hint hint), please watch the Netflix documentary called "The Great Hack". I gives you just a taste of the dark and insidious links between the Kremlin and intermediate "media" companies looking to profit off the exploitation of hacking democratic elections. It's all real. Time to level up your understanding.

All it requires is for them to sell their souls to Vladimir Vladimirovich and the United Russia kleptocracy. It's all a part of the Russian culture's institutional inferiority complex; they need to constantly have everything around them telling them how superior Russia is in every way, to better be able to ignore the pitiful excuse for a country they really live in. www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/02/putin-kremlin-inside-russian-troll-house And yes, tovarishch "Brian": I've visited Russia and the former Soviet Union many times, I know more Russians than you know Americans, I speak Russian fairly well, and I know Russian geography better than you do. Let's say that they are mostly negative. The Russian people however due to the state owned medias are unconditionally behind Putin, which is sad. Russia is huge but they don't have any advantages today : The energy low prices, technologies, sanctions, corruption, living conditions and army all don't have the level of the West. So I'm afraid their wake up call will be very hard. They notice the crazy currency inflation and the sanctions, but they can't do anything about it. This guy is putting forward a perspective and I find it interesting. I don't take it at face value and I get it from multiple sources, but it is interesting. You wouldn't have multiple sources if you hear the same old story over and over again. By all means, disagree with what is said in the vid, but that's no need to stick your fingers in your ears and go "lalalalala" because I think that a varied diet of information is essential if you are to spot the untruths and lies that all too often come about in the media.

Actually, I agree wholeheartedly with you, and I REALLY like Caspian Report (I just told the last guy I disliked it to shit him up) I didn't claim this was propaganda, but I do obviously note an unwarranted Russophobic tendency in the media and I find it fair to call it out when I see it. Connecting Putins popularity to his military triumphs does something that you may not see at first but it alludes to Russian Aggression. This is the dangerous part, Russia is the one with NATO on its borders running drills and exercises. Russia is not the one with a trillion dollar military budget, Russia is not the country with nearly 1000 military bases. Do you know how many military bases Russia has? Look it up, then tell me who is the aggressor.

ammonammonammon The Russphobia can only be found in the media trying to portray Russia as an unstoppable superpower that can't crumble under it's own weight. Here in Sweden we just tend to look at Russia as a poor and corrupt country that desperately tries to find dirt on Sweden so that they can brainwash their own population. I mean sure it is quite the snobbish way to look at it. In the end I wish we could all just be friends and share culture with one and another. I wish the best for the Russian people. Maybe a collapse of the Russian state is what is needed for that. Only time will tell (assuming that would happen).

Wow what a disappointing video. For those that are saying that ppl criticizing it with nothing constructive you should compare his other videos and the verbiage used with this one. He's the one not producing facts: "Russian hysteria aimed at Turkey", Russia was responding to a plane getting shot down with air to air missiles from a Turkish F-16... Turks were in the wrong and admitted it but their initial response forced Russia to reply to economic pressure (and it worked). What "hysteria" are you talking about. Then the author goes on to talk about the excessive amount of violence in Syria, are you going to produce any claim/proof or just skip through it. The language and how facts are presented are very subjective and the whole thing is oozing with bias.

Putinism is getting more and More dangerous, once Putin Wins the election, he wants the world to bow before him and Worship him as god. As Europe, the US and Canada is falling to Populist and Putinist power, no one would believe in Freedom, Freedom of Speech, Liberal Democracy nor Human Rights. There are countries that are completely resistant to Populism and Putinism; Japan, Malaysia and South Korea. Due to Japan and South Korea's isolation from Populist and Putinist powers, they have retained their democracies better than we do. Japan and South Korea can be our beacons of hope, they are Capable of fighting Populism and Putinism but we don't, they can teach us and i'm sure they will. Japanese and Koreans despite their feud because of the Imjin war (1592-1598), the Annexation of Korea from 1910 that lasted 35 years (1910+35=1945) and the Dokdo island Dispute are who we should really trust. Populism and Putinism are not Religions, they're dangerous ideologies that could shatter Liberal Democracy, Human Rights and Freedom. The Japanese and Koreans are Peaceful, Intelligent and Advanced Races that have a long history from the Jomon Period (12000 B.C.- 800 B.C.) which was known for Extraordinarily Beautiful Pottery until the founding of the country of Japan by Emperor Jinmu, the Gojoseon founded by Dangun the first Korean and an Offspring of a Heavenly Prince-god and a Bear who was Transformed into a Human, the Yayoi Period (300 B.C. - 300 A.D.) known for the Dotaku bell and the Introduction of Metallurgy from China, the Three Kingdoms of Silla which was located in Gyeonju known for its unification of the Korean peninsula, Baekje which was located in Buyeo known for Importing its culture along with the one from Tang China to Yamato Japan which made it into the Asuka and Nara Period until the Heian Period which gave birth to the Samurai Warriors, Goguryeo which was located in northern Parts of the Korean Peninsula which was known for its Burial Mounds and after its defeat the Goguryeo remnants came up north to found the Balhae Kingdom until the Jurchens destroyed it, the Samurai Period occured when the Samurai took over Japan and pushed out the Emperor out of power to make way for the Daimyos and of course the Shogun, the Koryeo dynasty in which the Word Korea came from known for being an independent Puppet state to the Mongols that failed to Conquer Japan due to the Typhoon and the Power of the Samurai, the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897) founded by Yi Seong-Gye also known as Taejo which was know for giving birth to the Hangeul alphabet by King Sejong the Great in order to give Reading skills to the Lower class and now it's the current Writing in Korea, after the Samurai defeated the Mongols, a civil war has been Sparked in which we call the Sengoku period in time where the Portuguese introduced Gun powder (Which has made the Battle of Nagashino and was used for any Battle and the Imjin War) and Chili pepper (Which will be the Main ingredient of Baekchu Kimchi) which made Toyotomi Hideyoshi winning the war, unifying Japan, became Shogun and Planned the Invasions of Korea (Which we call the Imjin War) but failed thanks to Yi Sun-Shin with his unstoppable Turtle ships in the Battle of Myeongryang which ultimately led to the Greatest Samurai battle called the one of Sekigahara which was one by the Tokugawa clan that made Edo (Present day Tokyo) as the Capital of Japan which isolated it from the outside world until American ships which the Japanese called Kurofune which brought the Tokugawa shogunate to its knees, made the Emperor bring his powers, beginning the Meiji Period, the Japanese invade Korea but it has a Dispute with the Qing Chinese starting the First Sino-Japanese war and again with the Russians starting the Russo-Japanese war and finally the Japan annexed Korea, in the 1930's, Japan was a Growing Super Power invaded China and has started Raping and Killing people in the Captured Capital of Nanking, in world war II, Japan bombed Pearl Harbour causing the Americans to Declare war on it, the Japanese have their defeated on River Kwai by the British and Finally in 1945 the Enola Gay plane dropped two bombs in two cities, one which was the Little boy that Bombed on Hiroshima and the another one called Fat Man has bombed on Nagasaki, Korea was Liberated but it was Politically Divided into two the Communist north (The Democratic People's Republic of Korea founded by Kim Il Sung or North Korea) and the Liberal Democratic South (The Republic of Korea or South Korea), South Korea has won the war, North Korea signed a Disarmament with it but Technically still at war thanks to the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) that Separated The Korean Peninsula, to the Miraculous Economic Development and the Fukushima Incident. The Japanese and Koreans may be Culturally and Racially Different to Each other and the Celts but they share the Same Symbol, those three may have been an Advanced Space-Faring Human Civilisation planting its cultures on Earth like a Tree and soon after it was divided into four, Three on earth which are the Celts, the Japanese and Koreans and fourth we don't know where they are and who they are but it do, they are the Eowynians that kept the same Celtic Culture on the Planet Eowyn. NATO is too weak and it's time to urge the Japanese and Koreans to reorganise it into PATO (Pacific-Atlantic Treaty Organisation) to tackle Putinism and Terrorism.

Russia was declining from 1991-1999. this is the period where Russia and USA had excellent diplomatic relations. the Alcoholic president Yeltsin was allowing U.S. companies to drill for oil, precious metals, and gas with minimum fees, and even export out of the country for virtually nothing. Russia was on the verge of collapse. It was only in 2000 when Putin put his foot down, kicked out tons of western companies, NGO's, put into effect several laws that went against Western interests, that Russia began to improve economically and socially. So of course with the sanctions, and this bullshit reporting you are gonna say that russia is on the decline, when you are greatly mistaken, as now Russia is going thru the process of self sustainment. within 7-8 years, Russia's economy, and currency will be completely independent of the petro-dollar.. Of course the West is terrified of that and will do everything to stop it.. including these propaganda style reports.

Wayne T yep old habits die hard, I agree in that respect. Russia is backwards socially?? Well thats your opinion, and a highly subjective one at that. Russia has a history of culture, traditions, and values that go back over a thousand years.. If the government wants to protect that, and 90% of the people believe that, then it's not backwards... Backwards is Islamic and african countries where there is genital mutilation, child brides, stoning and killing of gays, female oppression, no freedom of expression... So don't say Russia is backward in that respect. As far as exploding? Only if an externally financed/influenced coup will do that.. but I highly doubt it.

@Hungry Estonian tell about imperialism to Ossetian and Abkhaz people which were declared war upon from Georgia right after dissolution of Soviet Union. If the small countries which were released by USSR/Russia in 1991 would be constructive in their behavior and follow Russia's example - they would release their national minorities the same way as Russia did. That would grant those minorities right for self-determination and allow to avoid a lot of potential ethnic conflicts like Transdniestria, Karabakh conflict, Crimea, Donbass, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Reality was different - all those countries decided to become a small imperialist themselves, oppressing national minorities and trying to bring them under leading nationality rule by armed force.

Main points. 1. Russia has deep economic problems, relying on basic imports, instead of value added production. 2. Money was wasted before 2009, due to the income distribution being concentrated in the hands of a few, and consequent low savings amongts large segments of the population. 3. It is not possible to know what is going on behind the corridors of power. 4. Centralization of power, has produced less innovation, and less progress on topic 1. 5. Putin was losing votes. Then the West gave Putin a lifeline as a result of the Ukrainian mess, due to Putin's ability to concentrate on external policy. 5. Sanctions had no immediate outcome, but did reduce capital resources, to handle problem number 1, and also reduce resource sector production. 6. There are inernal confrontations within the power structure in Russia. 7. Low energy prices are impacting everything, and state spending has reduced. This has caused lower internal hierarchy. 8. Long term issues, include a lack of a viable opposition in politics, and lack of preparedness for sudden events. Centralization is producing problems with decision making. 9. There have been replacements of incompetent administrators, and businessmen deemd to be involved in corruption. 10. Inflation and unemployment rises are concerning. Not mentioned. Corruption. The world's worst demographic weaknesses. Substance abuse and the consequent problems. Labour unit productivity underperformance. Infrastructure weakness, especially in respect of housing, and education. Loss of educated workers. Social problems. Gradual replacement of imports from the West by internal production in the food sector of the economy. Healthcare system in crisis. Being propped up by the PRC, which needs an ally in international politics. Lack of administartive reform, and failure to achieve state sector productivity gains.

Russia's economy rebounded to growth of 1.5% in 2018. At the time of writing this comment, Trump is ratcheting up geopolitical tensions with Venezuela and Iran. This is already having the effect of increasing oil prices, which will fuel Russia's economic growth. China is rapidly expanding its Belt & Road Initiative (now with more than 100 countries as members), and Russia stands to benefit from new trade routes created over its territory. It'd be interesting to see where Russia is headed when I check back at these comments in a few years.

Lots of pro-Russian trolls on here. Don't mistake me for a blind supporter of Western and US foreign policy, but Caspian makes a lot of good reports from a pure political science point of view. There are real questions to be raised about the sustainability of the state Putin has created. Political institutions have been weakened and power centralized, the economy is sluggish and vulnerable (as are all resource based economies in times of global financial instability, exasperated by Western sanctions), and the aggressive foreign policy and military spending that helps to strengthen support for Putin and his regime will be difficult to sustain with such a sluggish economy. Putin is a very savvy, intelligent politician to be sure. But the question is what happens after Putin? There is no successor in place, and the system is built around one man. Regardless of what you think about Putin's Russia, there will need to be reforms if the country is to avoid crisis when Putin steps aside / dies, and as Caspian points out Putin is in something of a rock and a hard place when it comes to reforms.

Although the country suffers from different domestic issues (like any large country) Russia is doing much better than you think. Their intentions are to strengthen their sovereignty and protect their borders. You say, "aggressive foreign policy and military spending that helps to strengthen support for Putin and his regime " is typical western Rachael Maddow / Chris Mathews / Wolf Blitzer talking points. Russia's ENTIRE military budget is smaller than the INCREASE alone in the US military budget this year -do you realize that? Russia has two military bases outside of it's borders in countries on its border ... how many does the US have? I am not a troll or Rus-bot, but I detest with a passion unfairness and uncalled for suffering of innocent people - and I see a lot of it thanks to what the west is doing to the RF and has done in the UA.

Yeah. They have a very centralized business and economic development structure. If you want to set up something big in Vladivostok, you got to do a lot of paperwork in Moscow. Imagine the back and forth. Russia's mistake right now is that they do not economically decentralize. They can easily emulate the model followed by pre-Xi China or even smaller countries like pre-80s Taiwan, Park's South Korea, or post-Meiji Japan. Liberalize economy + Diversify industry base + retain centralized power structure = success.

Very good analysis, it matches my previous knowledge I have about Russia. The saddest thing it that even in 2018 Russians have mostly no clue of what's happening and unconditionally love Putin, the very one that is slowly causing their demise. I hope the population won't suffer too much for all of this, but unfortunately I have personally seen signs that this is already happening, even among the mid-high class.

As a Westerner, I moved from Northern Europe to Moscow and it was the best decision. The fact Putin brought Russia up from the ashes of 1991 until becoming a prosperous nation as it is today, speaks for itself. The debt to the IMF had been paid off, they're using real money instead of fiat, and their growth in the last 5 years has been more than CCCP's whole 69 years. No demise here, bro. What is a demise is the United States and its allies -how that's failing rapidly. Because despite it all, Russians are the only nation that haven't abandoned God and their traditions - and that's why even the prophecies read that Russia will be the empire that will have its fight against the army of the Antichrist.

Wishful thinking from this armchair General. He says in effect that Putin invaded Crimea. In fact the Autonomous Republic of Crimea with its own Parliment in Simferopol, had a referendum on whether to rejoin Russia instead of Ukraine federation. The referendum was fair and well run with a whopping 84% turnout. 96% voted to rejoin Russia. If East Germany had been given such a referendum before rejoining West Germany I doubt that the result would have been so strong. I spent time in Crimea about 8 years ago. Two things struck me besides the beauty of Sevastopol. Every evening the locals fell into the same heated discussion which can be summarised as " How the hell did we get lumped in with Ukraine? We are Russian! Kruischev was drunk at the time...". The other thing that struck me particularly all around Sevastople was the pride they had in the Russian army through the generations. I would ask anybody who resents the Rejoining of Crimea...What have you against peaceful democracy working well?. Joss from Ireland.

Don't get the hate for this video. This is nothing new. Russia is very top-heavy and Putin isn't in his younger years. He has one, maybe two terms left at best. He has to look for a pretender to the throne, if he ever gets to it it'll be interesting to see. And everyone knows the economic trouble that Russia has, even more so than other global powers. I guess this is what comes with a bigger audience, you get the people with a low attention span to watch as well. Keep up the good content, still a favorite of mine.

Salmans d Barikzai because Russia is even poorer now and is a complete joke of a nation. Their currency is lower than it has been since soviet times, protests and civil unrest all over the country. Lastly, oil is at an all time low and will continue to fall as the world transitions away from oil... so basically Russia is finished.
@andrerothweiler9191

@@sdprz7893 Indeed, I would understand annexation of Crimea to get a higher rating, also I do not understand why Putin went to Syria. Only around 30% percent of the population see that Russia should stay in Syria, the majority around 60% see that Russia should go away from there. Putin really overestimated Russian's chauvinistic population, that small conflicts would get him a higher rating. Sanctions, wars, low oil prices are lowering since 2013 the average salary of average Russian, the majority do care about the higher standard of living but not conflicts.

What's worrying is that Putin has made sure that anyone else who is competent to lead was gotten rid of. So, although purging military competence is leading Russia to disaster in Ukraine, there is still no way a government can function without Putin holding it together.

After all those billions of north American tax dollars look at democracy in Ukraine and that's what you will get. Democracy is 2 wolves and 1 sheep voting on whats for supper and theres no way to reform that. It would be better to concentrate on equal justice and laws that don't violate a set of rights the majority agree to as rights that are fair to all.
