@@cynthiafisher9907 I don't have fb and not comfortable meeting up with random ppl. The closest thrift store or donation spot is 45 minutes away. I would challenge people to volunteer at a donation center sorting donations before donating their unwanted stuff. When I’ve volunteered before, you sort through boxes and boxes of other people’s trash, essentially, to find good items to resale. Bags of used/dirty undies, ripped clothing, dishes that haven’t been washed, etc. Do it consciously and ethically, and only donate items that are in good enough shape for resale. :)

I have always donated my clean, lightly used items. I thought everyone washed & folded their donations.....then I spent a year volunteering 1 day every 2 weeks to sort through donations. It was unbelievable! One shoe, soiled laundry, food scraps, used diapers 🤢 and broken items were not uncommon!

Perfect timing, I moved here 3 years ago & moved boxes that were stored in a closet there to put in a closet here. I had no idea what was in them (& I paid $$$ to move them here). I decided today was the day to tackle them. Well, I went through 4 medium sized moving boxes in 15 minutes. I only took out 3 small items to keep & I'm donating the rest. This did set a fire in me so I'm continuing, but that's what I did in 15 minutes. Thanks again for the inspiration. Love your channel. Oh wow! Could you imagine??? $2 per Lego! Luckily the boys were only getting $2 each for filling the box, not $2 per item, so there was no monetary benefit to throwing in extra items. I also keep a donation bag in the garage. I put anything I think I want to donate. Very, very occasionally I have taken something back out, but overwhelmingly once it's in that bag I forget all about it. Once every few months I take it all to donation center. It's a great system that allows me to "have a think" about things before getting rid of them.

When the boys said they wanted to declutter because they have too much, I thought of the scripture “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Great job guys 😊 You are raising some good little humans. They will probably be very giving as adults.

Dawn, you are so sweet. Thank you for always encouraging us to be kind to ourselves as we declutter. I know I have kept many things out of guilt over the years.

The last few times I have taken away clutter in donation boxes, I have tried a reverse 'container theory' using a BIG donation box and trying to fill it all the way up before I take it away. The box being the 'limit' to what goes in it. Knowing I would be going out in a few days, prompted me to go ahead and fill that half full donation box with more things I wasn't at first anticipating. It was a fulfilling feeling knowing I was taking away a now FULL box!

Impressive that your boys are so great at decluttering! I accept your 20 minute challenge. I started the huge job of cleaning our garage which is packed full of boxes from our move. (things that cannot fit into our new house). I threw out 8 large plastic bags, the kind that are used for lawn care. I had only one box of donations so far. But made a decent area clean...about 36 sq feet. It's a 2 car garage, so I have a lot of decluttering left. But this made me feel great!

I just moved from an farmhouse & acreage to a 2 BR apt. Thank goodness for your videos. I purged over half of the stuff before moving. If it was not a definite yes, it was a no. As I unpack, I have a donation box. Still ready to part with more. Thank you!

Just a fun idea for kids to hang up artwork in their room. You need two hooks and a thin rope or twine that runs between the two hooks and clip clothes pins. That's it. Simple and can be easily changed out with new pictures.

Ugh, how did you know? My family storage unit recently caught on fire and my husband/in-laws lost a lot of things. If we could go back in time perhaps we would pick out 5-10 important books and keep them on our shelves, hold onto the one baby item we all talk about, and sell a few big items (stereo parts) that unfortunately never got used. It was heartbreaking for a while and then honestly a relief. I didn't realize that it was so common to find those "someday" items ruined but it makes sense! I do know that your basement has flooded before so you understand. And mine did as a child several times too, I always remember my parents with the water vaccuum feeling super frustrated. Thank you for helping me connect the dots with that. And what a fun video this is!

Went thru my room after watching this video. Cleaned out my closet and some room decor. No big stuff, but I took a bunch of stuff to donate today and have some stuff put aside to bring to a friend 😁. Thanks for the motivation!

The day before you posted this video, we did a pretty decent declutter. 5 bags to Community Aid, another box of stuff to Community Aid, suitcase to the trash, and another box of baby clothes to my sister. In the declutter, I also found some items that I thought were lost to time and had actually felt sad about missing (accidental quarantine...), so it was fun to see those items again!

Replace the glass in the picture frames for mirrors. Add a painted scripture or sticker on the mirror or frame to encourage self worth. Foster kids need encouragement through practical application. Repurposing items is another option to consider!!!
