That was super interesting. As for the 70's, black was the dominant colour. Admittedly, I was in Submarines, then 😂

That's a great tutorial. A little more formal perhaps than your regular videos, Stewart. Although I did miss that slightly angst-y feel of you working to reach a specific effect. "Will the piece survive?" But your teacher credentials came through more firmly in this.I wonder, would there be any benefit in taking the piece off the lathe, still in the chuck, and working with the surface horizontal? We old people with stiff necks and shoulders consider these things.

It may just be a difference it terms across the pond, but what is the difference between a stain and a dye? They seem to work quite similarly.

I would say that they ate broadly the same for our purposes of changing the colour of wood. There do appear to be some technical differences between the two about how the colour is created.
