In this video Ann experiments with various slip ideas. Ann demonstrates how to make several types of slip with underglaze, Mason stains, and hemp oil. (OK, that last part may not be true) She incorporates several ideas into one psychedelic piece that looks really cool under a black light. The idea is to inspire experimentation and learning into the creative process. As always, its great video to just relax to and watch while you nosh on peanut brittle. Try some new ideas, make some slip for gosh sake...there's a big meteor headed this way anyhow.
If you would like to learn Ann's underglaze painting, glazing, and decorating process then check out Ann's Video Workshop Series. These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/showcase/6725318

hello Anne. I speak to you from Brazil. A happy New Year! Congratulations on the video. I've been following you on the channel and I really like what I see. In this painting I saw that you overlapped different colors and there was no color interference. Any guidance regarding this process? When overlapping which colors can come first; which ones cannot overlap. Thank you very much and once again congratulations!

Amazing creativity.. and thank you for sharing your talents.. I had just made some slip but was waiting to use it because I thought it had to be sieved ?? Am I wrong… ? Can I add my mason stains and use it right away ?
@JohnLowes
@JohnLowes 2 жыл бұрын
Sieving your slip is a good idea if the clay base has grog, but for smooth slip it isn’t absolutely necessary. Sieving will make slip more uniform and less likely to have “ bumpy” texture from unincorporated bits. I would add the mason stain before sieving smooth base to help it incorporate. For grogged clay, sieve before adding stain.

Thank you for this great tips! I’m new to pottery and I like the results of using color slip. So is fine to add the color slip before the bisque firing? And then after the bisque firing you add the glaze for the second fire?

I made slip using 25% of each Tenesse 1 (ball clay), Kaolin, EPK, and Custer Feldspar. I usually use 10% stain. How much water should I add if I am making a 200 gram or 600 gram batch? I used barely any water the first 10 colored slips I made but it took half an hour to sieve each slip through an 80 mesh sieve because it was so thick. Suggestions on how much water I should add for using the slip for slip trailing, painting it on, mishima, or stencils?

How do you keep your dots from being pointed? They're perfect!
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery 10 ай бұрын
If your dots are pointy, you might just need to add a little H2O to the mixture. You can also wipe them down with a wet finger after they are almost dry to smooth them out. Thanks!
